BMW now offers Apple CarPlay over a wireless connection on nearly all models in its range, courtesy of an updated BMW Professional Media system. With this, users may connect their iPhone wirelessly to a suitably-equipped BMW – a first for any vehicle with CarPlay – which will also allow the use of selected third party apps on their devices via the iDrive controller, touch or voice input.
The available smartphone content such as iMessages, SMS, Telephony, Entertainment, Apple Maps and selected third party apps can be viewed and utilised through the iDrive system, while still enabling access to information in the vehicle’s split screen including BMW entertainment details, navigation, vehicle information and more.
Along with CarPlay preparation, the Apps Interface allows the use of BMW Connected as well as certain third-party apps including Audible, Deezer, Glympse, Spotify, and Stitcher. Now available as an option on the latest 1 Series, 2 Series Coupé and Convertible, 3 Series, 4 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series, X3, X4, X5, X6, M2, M3, M4, X5M, X6M and M6, the Apple CarPlay option is priced at 235 pound sterling (RM1,199) in the UK.
