Mercedes-Benz Malaysia’s introduction of six AMG 43 series models at its AMG 50 Years event in Sepang International Circuit today continues with the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic and GLC 43 4Matic Coupe.
The pumped-up version of the X253 GLC – which made its debut in New York last year – joins the locally-assembled GLC 250 4Matic in the Malaysian line-up. Likewise, the GLC 43 4Matic Coupe, which now keeps the GLC 250 4Matic Coupe company in the particular C253 bodystyle range locally.
Both AMG 43 variants are powered by the same engine as seen on the C 43 sedan and coupe, SLC 43 and the E 43 that were also launched in Sepang today – the M276 DELA 30 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 offers 362 hp (367 PS) at 5,500 to 6,000 rpm and 520 Nm of torque, available from 2,500 to 4,500 rpm, in both GLC applications.
Power is sent to the wheels via a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission and the automaker’s 4Matic all-wheel drive system – the latter is a rear-biased system that splits torque 31:69 front-to-rear. Performance numbers are identical for both SUV and coupe, and this includes a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.9 seconds and an electronically-limited 250 km/h top speed.
Both GLC 43 and GLC 43 Coupe ride on an AMG sports suspension based on the Air Body Control system, plus ADS Plus adaptive damping, which offers Comfort, Sport and Sport plus damping modes. Revisions to the suspension on the 43s include special steering knuckles and load bearing joints in front and more negative camber on both front and multi-link rear axles for improved lateral dynamics.
The brakes have also been uprated, both vehicles featuring 360 mm cross-drilled discs and four-piston calipers at the front and 320 mm cross-drilled discs with single-piston calipers at the rear.
Also on, a speed-sensitive, variable-ratio sports steering and an AMG Dynamic Select system, which provides five driving modes (Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual), with Sport and Sport Plus modes having a sharper throttle response and shortened shift times compared to their non-AMG siblings.
The Malaysian-spec GLC 43 and GLC 43 Coupe are kitted out in virtually identical fashion. Both get an AMG Line exterior, and elements include a diamond radiator grille featuring chrome-plated pins, a louvre in high-gloss black with inserts in high-gloss chrome and AMG lettering as well as an AMG front apron and splitter dressed in silver chrome.
They ride on high-gloss black 21-inch AMG five-twin spoke light-alloy wheels (with a TireFit kit), and both models come equipped with a Night Package, which offers the usual design elements in black. The GLC 43 also gets roof rails that are finished in black.
Inside, the 43s get an AMG Line interior, with black Artico man-made leather/Dinamice microfibre upholstery, complete with red top-stitching. Also to be seen, designo red seatbelts, AMG floor mats and door sill panels. Some differences in trim finishes between the two – the GLC 43 gets a piano black lacquer/aluminium mix, while the GLC 43 Coupe goes with an aluminium theme for its trim.
Standard equipment includes a LED Intelligent Light system and adaptive highbeam assist plus, Thermotronic climate control system, Keyless Go, a 360-degree camera, an Easy-Pack tailgate, a Comand Online navigation system with an 8.4-inch LCD screen and a 13-speaker Burmester surround sound system with nine channels of amplification and a system output of 590 watts.
Finally, pricing. The X253 Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic is priced at RM538,888, while the GLC 43 4Matic Coupe goes for RM580,888, both on-the-road without insurance. Buyers can opt for the traditional hire purchase mode of purchase, or go with MBM’s Agility Financing programme, whereby the monthly repayment can be as low as RM5,388 per month for the GLC 43 and RM5,808 for the GLC 43 Coupe (terms apply).
