Toyota Harrier facelift spotted undisguised in Japan

Images of the undisguised Toyota Harrier facelift have surfaced on the Japanese website Car Drive, showing the new aesthetic updates coming to the Japan-only SUV.

Clear to see is the more aggressive front fascia, with the lower grille now wider and carrying fog lights on the outer edges. The centre portion of the splitter has also been painted black, while slim vertical air inlets have sprouted on the corners of the bumper. You can also spot the new, likely full-LED headlights with triple projectors on each side.

At the rear of the car, the cool clear LED tail lights of the outgoing model have been replaced by more conventional red items. A new turbine-design alloy wheel option complete the look, and buyers will also be able to specify new blue and red mica paint finishes.

The Harrier is expected to receive a new 8AR-FTS 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the Lexus NX, producing 235 PS from 5,200 to 5,800 rpm and 350 Nm of torque between 1,650 and 4,400 rpm. Mated to it is a six-speed automatic transmission.

The new turbo mill will join the existing range, which includes a 151 PS/193 Nm 3ZR-FAE 2.0 litre naturally-aspirated Valvematic four-pot with a Super CVT-i transmission. There’s also a Hybrid model that pairs a 152 PS/206 Nm 2AR-FXE 2.5 litre Atkinson-cycle engine with a 143 PS/270 Nm front electric motor and a 68 PS/139 Nm rear motor to produce a total system output of 197 PS.

As previously reported, turbo variants should receive LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, performance dampers, a black and red interior as well as suede/leather upholstery as standard. All variants will reportedly receive the Toyota Safety Sense P active safety suite too, including pre-collision system with vehicle and pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control and lane departure alert with steering assist function.
