Honda Malaysia recalls nearly 50k units of Odyssey and Accord – battery sensor and door mirror issues

Owners and users of the Honda Odyssey and Accord, take note. Honda Malaysia (HM) has announced a product recall for the MPV (2014-2017 YM) and sedan (2013-2016 YM), and it is due to a battery sensor failure and defective door mirror component.

The battery sensor failure issue is due to inaccurate forming on the printed circuit board (PCB) in the battery sensor during its production process. This may cause an electrical short circuit of the sensor, and the possibility of smoke coming from the hood or in the worst case, a fire. For this, 20,233 units of Accord manufactured between 2013 to 2016 are affected.

The defective door mirror component is due to inconsistent surface treatment of the movable contact area inside the door mirror retracting switch, which may cause the affected door mirror to retract during driving or parking. 27,912 units of Accord (2013-2016) and 971 units of Odyssey (2014-2017) are involved.

As of today, the replacement parts availability is at 50% for both the battery sensor and the door mirror component. Affected customers should make an appointment with their nearest/regular Honda authorised dealer for free parts replacement. Affected customers will be informed via letters, which will include details of the recall.

HM says that there have been no incidence of fire, crashes or injuries related to these issues reported in Malaysia as of today, and that all models currently on sale are not affected by the issues. Check the recall status of your Honda at www.productrecall.honda.com.my or by calling 1800-88-2020.
