The Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine Inscription Plus is a new variant for the plug-in hybrid SUV sold in Malaysia, joining the existing Inscription. Priced at RM413,888 on-the-road without insurance, the new variant is RM10,000 more than the Inscription, but comes with a slightly improved equipment list.
The big ticket item here is the addition of a Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system with 19 speakers, optimised by a 12-channel, 1,400 watt Class D amplifier. This system wasn’t fitted on both fully-imported (CBU) and locally-assembled (CKD) units of the XC90, which instead came with a 10-speaker 330-watt sound system – still standard on the Inscription.
Aside from that, the Inscription Plus appears to be identical in terms of specifications to the Inscription, retaining the black Nappa leather upholstery, Comfort seats, Sensus Connect infotainment system, 12.3-inch Adaptive Digital Display instrument panel and four-zone climate control. Curiously, both variants of the XC90 no longer come with a surround-view camera – previously standard on CBU and CKD cars.
On the exterior, you’ll still get 20-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels and the full Inscription get-up, including the black and matte silver grille with gloss chrome surround, side mouldings with ‘Inscription’ lettering and dual integrated tailpipes.
Motivation comes from a T8 Twin Engine powertrain, which is made up of a 2.0 litre four-cylinder super- and turbocharged Drive-E petrol engine, rear axle electric motor and a crankshaft-mounted starter generator (CISG) positioned between the engine and eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Total system output is rated at 407 hp and 640 Nm of torque.
Safety and driver assistance systems include seven airbags, Adaptive Cruise Control, City Safety with Front Collision Warning and Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection with Full Auto Brake, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Aid, Roll Stability Control and Hill Descent Control.
This two-variant approach is similar to what was done with the S90 CKD, which also comes in Inscription (RM368,888) and Inscription Plus (RM388,888) variants. As you can see, there’s a larger price disparity compared to the XC90 variants – higher-spec S90 gets the Bowers & Wilkins sound system as well as Active Chassis with two-corner air suspension (XC90 comes with four-corner air suspension as standard).
Now no more complaint, ok? The very sought after B&W system, for a good price. Siapa complaint, kedekut poorfag poser.

Michelle Tang,
It is a waste of time for your worthless comment.
If you do have a RM 400 K to spare and any car at this level is consider luxury .
Hence as an example
Audi A4 is only cost RM 250K so is BMW 3 series
Since they are worth and cost less to own than this XC90 , i would automatically classified this sort of cheaper A4 , C CLASS , 3 SERIES AS NON LUXURY BRAND OF CARS TOO !!
So in conclusion A4 or Q5 , 3 SERIES or X3 AND C CLASS AND PERHAPS the E class are non luxury level too , reason cheaper to own and buy then ..
Certainly they are then based on your comment !!
Erm… not sure if you’ve noticed. Surround View Camera was lost in this Plus package and no option to add 360 camera in the list of accessories. Bummer
Like this better buy a B-segment car that cost less than RM100k that come with 360 camera !!
Well B-segment car aren’t J-segment SUV that XC90 is in. Had u test drove an XC90 before? If not then go and test drive one first. Don’t judge blindly and make such conclusion based on accessories alone. There were many reasons why it costs much more than less than RM100k cars.
Buy 3008 better than this china car la
Bummer, I requested for B&W when I bought my car in May 2017 but didn’t get it, now only out D:
10k is totally worth, don’t regret later. The standard sound system is front biased and that really sucked cuz the rear passengers don’t get to enjoy music the same way. And I am not a huge audiophile!
According to the speaker diagram of 10-speaker system the car the front get 6 speakers including high mid and low on both sides, while rear gets 4 mid speakers only.
This version why don’t have 360 cam. Big SUV needs it. Previous xc90 t8 plus have it. I owned December 2017 version.
Do you have problem using it without 360? Will it be a must have or good to have?
19 speakers? Madness! How many speakers is considered perfect sound. Only thing left is privacy partition for rear towkay to enjoy the aural sensation uninterrupted.
They lie. It is not “identical in terms of specifications”. The 360° cameras have been taken out. Meaning no front and side cameras. Now only rear camera. I speak from bitter personal experience. 360° cameras are standard with the X5 and other competitors. To skimp on this feature for a top end car is ridiculous and short sighted.
Yes, you are right there. The CBU and early CKD units came with a surround-view camera, but it looks like it has since been removed.

Vast majority of Toyota customers love black interiors.
Surround cameras gone? Can you find out why? This is odd.
I don’t think people who buy Volvo are like people who buy Toyota. People who buy Volvo prefer necessity compare to accessory. 360 cam are more important then those speakers.
taking out the 360 standard camera view is purely stupid. Not sure which idiot in volvo make that decision. it should be consider as part of the safety package instead of for convenient.
u know how hard for us to add in 360 view in any car ? Even the cheapo daihatsu terios high spec also offer 360 camara, let’s not mentioned about x5.
The drop of 360 Cam was because of the depreciation of MYR and in order for Volvo to retain the price and stay being competitive in the market. Cheers! :)
At least allow buyers to opt as additional option in the lists of accessories. Sell us rm21k 22 inch diamond cut rim, rm5k or rm9k side step running board, and those bumper options but removed the camera and say “Sorry new buyers, there is no such option for surround view camera for you. I’m only interested for your rm413k. You can add all other accesories except surround view camera cuz we had removed for you and its gone.”
They do know potential buyers would be willing to fork out more just to add such option right?Since this car’s pricing isn’t in the “affordable” range so no point in saying “removed” to retain competitive price. How considerate of volvo malaysia for 2018 XC90 inscription plus.
I wonder what does plus stands for since no upgrade in battery capacity, same overall and accesories to 2017 model. Only plus is Bowers and Wilkins but removed surround view camera. Plus 1 minus 1 is equals to Zero. That is Math
That is a lame answer. The XC90 is marketed as a premium vehicle. It must come with the things that people expect like the 360 cameras, as many less expensive alternatives to Volvo have them too.
The difference between the fully loaded S90 and the less premium S90 is 20k. The difference between the 2018 and the 2018 XC90 is 10k. Both the top end XC90 and S90 have got similar equipment lists with air suspension and Bowers and Wilkins, except that the 360 cameras have been removed from the XC90. So how much did Volvo save by removing the 360 cameras? You do the math. It is 10k.
10k ! I would have paid another 10k for the 360 cameras! It is insane to remove such an essential feature from such a big car, and expect brand loyalty to be maintained.
Volvo Glenmarie’s sales tactics suck too. When I ordered the 2018 version of the XC90, I was not told that the 360 cameras were removed. I only found out on the day that the XC90 was delivered to me. It sucks big time.
The sales person told me that I could really on the side sensors but experience had shown that they are too slow, as the side sensors are triggered way too late. Also they are useless when going through narrow roads and gaps in traffic. The sensors are going off on the right and left and you need to be able to see how close the other vehicle is before going through the gap. Without a 360 camera, you can’t see unless you and your passenger put your heads out of the windows to make sure that the sides of the XC90 won’t be scraped. Real classy Volvo. I paid you 413k for this privilege. Many thanks.
The name Volvo now leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.
I also was fooled by Volvo. I just noticed when the car delivered. If volvo in Malaysia try to build and sustain their reputation, they ought to add 360 camera option for those cheated buyers at reasonable price.
That’s bad. After 1 year with the car, is your experience with the car OK without 360 camera? Is it a must?
