Behold, BMW M2 enthusiasts! It looks like Munich is developing a more hardcore version of the popular coupe, and it could be called the M2 Competition. Several pictures have begun making rounds in the BimmerPost forum, suggesting that there may be some real basis to the project.
The pictures show a close-up shot of the M2 LCI‘s instrument cluster, this time with a digital rendering of ‘M2 Competition’ lettering. Even the push-start button on the right is in red, just like the M3 CS. However, there’s a good chance of the photo being doctored, so don’t get your hopes up just yet.
In terms of performance, it’s believed that the N55B30 3.0 litre straight-six will be retired, to be replaced by the S55 3.0 litre straight-six found in the M3 and M4. It will be detuned of course, and based on the spec sheet above, the engine should produce about 405 hp. That’s right in the zone where the supposed M2 CSL would make. A six-speed manual or seven-speed M-DCT will continue to be offered.
Expect upgrades to be made to the suspension, exhaust system and overall styling. As for its world debut, the M2 Competition is expected to be unveiled at the Beijing auto show in April. What do you think of this, guys? Let us know below.
