Nissan Terra – production Navara SUV pics from China

Here’s more of the Nissan Terra, the ladder frame ‘Navara SUV’ that’s based on the NP300 pick-up truck. It will be officially unveiled at next month’s 2018 Beijing Auto Show, and we’ve seen a couple of official images, but here are some shots of the production car out in the open, in China.

It doesn’t show us anything new, but we get a live look at the Navara-based interior with its mask-like centre console and touch screen head unit. We also spot leather seats with contrast stitching and striped glossy wood trim framed by regular silver panels. There’s also a shot of the cargo area with the third row seats folded flat – it’s cavernous.

The Chinese website that shared these pics had accompanying details. According to it, the SUV will be powered by a 2.5 litre naturally aspirated engine in China, with 181 hp and 251 Nm of torque. The petrol motor can be paired to a six-speed manual or seven-speed torque converter automatic.

Also shared were the Terra’s dimensions. At 4,882 mm long and 1,850 mm wide, it’s 87 mm longer and 5 mm narrower than the Toyota Fortuner, which is a direct truck-based rival. The Nissan’s 1,835 mm height is similar to the Toyota’s, but the 2,850 mm wheelbase is a significant 105 mm longer. Ground clearance is 220 mm. Expect a big and roomy seven-seater.

The Nissan Terra will be made and sold in Thailand, and is expected to reach our neighbour’s showrooms in the second half of the year. We can safely expect ASEAN to receive 2.5 litre turbodiesel engines from the Navara, but there’s a a twin-turbo 2.3 litre diesel (used in Western markets) available should Nissan opt for it.

This would be a good addition to Nissan’s Malaysian range as a rival to the local Fortuner, which is also imported from Thailand. Like what you see?
