Five months on from its international unveiling, the brand new F39 BMW X2 has made its official debut in Malaysia. The sportier “coupé” cousin of the X1 arrives here just a month after sales began globally, as Munich attempts to take the fight to the Mercedes-Benz GLA for the attention of young urbanites.
Available in just a single variant – the two-wheel drive sDrive20i petrol – the fully-imported (CBU) X2 is priced at RM320,800 on-the-road without insurance. This makes it a whole RM90,000 more expensive than the equivalent locally-assembled (CKD) X1 sDrive20i, which is priced at RM230,800. Included is a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, five years’ free scheduled maintenance and a two-year tyre warranty.
Differentiating the X2 from the X1 is an all-new exterior design, featuring a unique front end with BMW’s first application of a trapezoidal double kidney grille, a low-slung roofline, prominent wheel arch flares and a sportier rear end with L-shaped LED tail lights. There are also BMW roundels on the C-pillars that hark back to early BMW coupés such as the 2000 CS and 3.0 CSL.
Part of the local specification, the M Sport pack adds more aggressive front and rear bumpers and side skirts, highlighted in Dark Shadow grey. There are also body-coloured wheel arch mouldings as well as a tailgate spoiler, plus passive M Sport suspension that lowers the ride height by 10 mm. Sports seats and Aluminium Hexagon Anthracite interior trim feature inside.
Under the bonnet sits BMW’s ubiquitous B48 2.0 litre turbo four-cylinder, making 192 hp from 5,000 to 6,000 rm and 280 Nm of torque between 1,350 and 4,600 rpm. All that is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, now also fitted to the X1. The headline figures include a zero-to-100 km/h sprint time of 7.7 seconds, a top speed of 227 km/h and a combined fuel consumption of 5.9 litres per 100 km.
The X2 is touted to provide a sportier driving experience compared to the X1, and to that end, the body is now 10% stiffer than its more practical sibling. The suspension features revised springs, dampers and anti-roll bars to suit, while negative camber has been increased at the front to reduce understeer. Meanwhile, the standard M Sport steering has a quicker ratio compared to that of the standard X1.
Standard kit includes full LED headlights, LED fog lights, 19-inch Style 715M double-spoke alloy wheels, Comfort Access keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, power-adjustable front seats with driver’s side memory, six-colour ambient lighting, Parking Assistant, front and rear parking sensors, a head-up display, a reverse camera and a powered tailgate with hands-free operation.
Also fitted is a Professional navigation with an 8.8-inch touchscreen and a six-speaker sound system. The X2 also comes with the BMW Connected packages that features Intelligent Emergency Call, Teleservices, Concierge Services, BMW Online and BMW Remote Services, among others.
Available colours include Galvanic Gold, Misano Blue and Sunset Orange paired to black Dakota leather upholstery, as well as Black Sapphire with Magma Red Dakota leather. Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Wow! GLA has no chance at all.
Yep. Harrier 2.0T 238hp much gooder option.
@ RM321k, the GLC is a better buy
Since when Mercedes has to up one level higher to fight with BMW?
bmw Malaysia used to be good in pricing their car, but this one, I wonder what they have in their mind…..
Alr expected. when we got bollocks represent distinguished jerman brands, BMW & Audi here
From Jonathan’s video, it seems that this X2 is rather low. If I didn’t know better, that height is like a normal car’s height? More like a Proton Suprima kinda size I guess rather than a SUV. Should have just called it 2 series updated hatchback with crossover bodykit.
if more money than sense…then this will be the car for you
better get mini cooper S (countryman or clubman) and save 80k.
For hipsters & street cred, Toyota CHR definitely does a better job. And way cheaper @ 140k
Hmmm unless u want to look stylish I suggest to wait for the upcoming CKD X3 which is bigger and offers a better quality interior with more tech.
bmw is all about the exterior nowadays. heck the dash still looks 90% like my aged f10. progress much??
Mahalnya.. can buy X1 and a honda city..
For that price, sensible people would resort to the GLC or the vastly superior XC60.. only for BMW fanboys, clearly..
Volvo sales figure tell u they are irrelevant in Malaysia , so don’t mention Volvo
U meant to say MY market is irrelevant to VolvoCars. Regional sales is the target.
the sales figure shows how kiasi malaysians are….
new bmw fanboys…OG bmw fanboys hate this car
Better get the 530e which is being sold for rm343k! At the end of the day, it’s still a x1
FWD only at that price?
That price….
I mean..
Transm. / Eng/ Hp / Nm /0-100/ Price
BMW X1 FWD / 2.0 /192 / 280 / 7.7s / 320K
GLA250 – AWD /2.0 /208 / 350 /6.6s /270K
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What an awful price la, thumbs down to BMW Malaysia
Can you pls stop discriminate to BMW Malaysia, just that usually when new model car name like X7, X2, X9 or that launch in Malaysia, new model name comes out with CBU first which CBU prices is a bit expensive compare to CKD prices. Then few months later, new model name will came out with CKD prices which BMW Malaysia usually give them cheaper prices than CBU prices
who the hell buys a FWD BMW for RM320k? There is already a FWD BMW, is called a MINI!
Wishful thinking on the part of BMW. Don’t forget there are better offerings in the luxury class market namely the latest Lexus UX!
Is that a mini platform..
with this staggering price, you get a car with only slightly higher HP and TORQUE than Honda CRV 1.5L premium….pathetic
oh men , with the big lubang hidung depan kereta this X2 beemer want to fight with mesidis GLA , hahahaha this article really make my day , it’s remind me in Seniman Bujang Lapok dialogue , walaupun lubang hidung mu besar , namun tetap menjadi pujaan hati ku
Good looking and it will set a new trend…trust me
Quite a looker but why so the price like hell?Even Merc GLA cheap than this X2
BMW never got their pricing right. Launch price too expensive and they subsequently offer huge discounts. This results in faster depreciation compared to MB. Good value for pre-owned, but not at AB, Ingres or Quill.
Looks like the old E84 X1.
No matter what u say, this X2 is overpriced!
