Here’s even more photos of the all-new 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback, the twin to the Auris that was first revealed back in March this year. The model is set to go on sale in North America in the summer of the 2018 replacing the Corolla iM, with two grades – SE and XSE – being offered.

Built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) C platform, the Corolla’s suspension setup includes front MacPherson struts and rear multi-links with a stabiliser bar. Torsional rigidity is also vastly improved from its predecessor by as much as 60%.

Under the bonnet is a new M20A-FKS 2.0 litre Dynamic Force naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 168 hp and 205 Nm of torque. Physically lighter and smaller than the previous 1.8 litre engine, it comes with Toyota’s D-4S direct and port injection system as well as VVT-iE electric variable valve timing on the intake side (VVT-i for exhaust).

The engine is available with a Direct Shift-CVT (Toyota USA calls it Dynamic-Shift CVT) or six-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT), with both being new additions to Toyota’s transmission arsenal that we detailed previously.

Styling-wise, the Corolla is certainly a radical departure from its predecessors, with a mix of aggressive lines, creases and surfaces. Highlights include J-shaped LED headlamps and taillights that are standard on both grades, but only the XSE CVT comes with the Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS).

Other items exclusive to the XSE include 18-inch wheels, LED fog lights, chrome front grille surround and a prominent rear spoiler. Colour options include Blue Flame, Blizzard Pearl, Silver Metallic, Midnight Black, Galactic Aqua Mica, Scarlet and Oxide Bronze, while wheel sizes range from 16 to 18 inches, depending on the chosen grade.

As for interior equipment, the SE comes with an eight-inch multimedia touchscreen, Entune 3.0 Audio information system, six speakers, piano black trim with silver accents and available contrast stitching, single-zone climate control, electronic parking brake, SmartKey system and two front USB outlets.

The XSE builds upon this with dual-zone climate control, combination leather seats, eight-way powered and heated front seats, unique stitching on the instrument panel and doors and a seven-inch TFT multi-info display. The higher-end Entune 3.0 Audio Plus is also standard on the XSE (optional for the SE CVT), and adds connected services. A range-topping Entune 3.0 Audio Premium is also available, which adds more functions and an eight-speaker JBL audio system.

Safety-wise, Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 2.0 is standard on the Corolla Hatchback, and comes with the following systems: Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD), Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (Full-Speed DRCC), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA), Automatic High Beam (AHB), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) and Road Sign Assist (RSA) – last two are new additions.

Other items include seven airbags Toyota’s Star Safety System. The latter includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), traction control, EBD, brake assist, ABS, and Smart Stop Technology. Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) is standard on XSE and available on SE.
