BMW i3 and i8 Starlight Edition – 24-karat gold paint

If you idolise Auric Goldfinger, you just might be interested in the BMW i3 and i8 Starlight Edition, which is set to go on sale in the Czech Republic, with all proceeds going to charity.

Both cars feature a unique two-tone design, starting with a gold front end that progresses into the black rear. What makes it special and deserving of the ‘Starlight’ name is the addition of 24-karat gold dust onto the paint job to emulate a sky full of golden stars.

According to BMW, a special process was developed to ensure a smooth transition for the body colours. The application of the gold dust was also done by hand, with each car requiring four layers of the stuff. For further visual depth, six layers of original BMW ColorSystem paint were also applied.

The interiors aren’t left out either as gold is used on the air-con vents, dashboard, steering wheel and side sills. There’s also a commemorative plate with the inscription “Stralight Edition one of one.” which marks the exclusivity of these cars.

The BMW i3 and i8 Starlight Edition will be on display in the Prague showroom of Invelt from June 21, 2018 onwards. Following that, the cars will be present at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival from July 4-5.
