Nissan GT-R special edition celebrates partnership with tennis star Naomi Osaka – 50 units, Japan only

The R35-generation Nissan GT-R has been around since 2007, which makes it one of the older models on sale. Nissan has kept the supercar-baiting AWD coupe updated along the way, however, with the most recent iteration being the 2017 model year, which is the most comprehensive change since the 2010 facelift.

The latest update comes in the form of a limited edition that will see a run of just 50 units, and all are for Japan only. Built in commemoration of Nissan’s recent partnership with brand ambassador Naomi Osaka, who became the first Japanese tennis player to win a Grand Slam at this year’s US Open, the special GT-R is based on the most luxurious Premium Edition trim level.

Building on Premium Edition equipment, this limited edition can be specified with three exterior paint finishes – Midnight Opal, Brilliant White Pearl and Meteor Flake Black Pearl – as well as three interior colour schemes. The pairing of interior and exterior colours can be of any combination, says Nissan.

Colours aside, exterior changes are minimal, save for a dry-carbon rear spoiler and a gold numbered plaque in the engine bay denoting the limited-run build of this version. Lights, bumpers and wheels continue to be the same as those on the 2017 update.

Powertrain continues to be of the latest standard version, where the hand-built 3.8 litre biturbo V6 produces 555 PS and 632 Nm of torque, sent to all fours via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic. Standard relative to the Nismo’s, that is, which has been massaged to coax 600 PS and 652 Nm of torque from the same engine, albeit with improved breathing.

Pricing for the limited-run GT-R will be announced next month, though one can expect a premium on top of the standard car, which was priced at 13.5 million baht in neighbouring Thailand at the 2018 Bangkok Motor Show. One more for the JDM wishlist, perhaps?
