Launched in Malaysia in April 2018, the Range Rover Velar sits between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport in Jaguar Land Rover Malaysia’s line-up. With price starting just north of RM500k, the Velar can be had with a P250 or P380 powertrain, the latter being the star of this video review.
In this guise, an Ingenium 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine churns out 250 PS and 365 Nm, which is sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission and onto the road with the help of an all-wheel drive system. Land Rover’s Terrain Response system also comes as standard, offering six separate modes depending on the surface condition you’re driving over.
Even with its off-road capabilities, the Velar is still a luxury SUV with plenty of amenities on the inside. These include the InControl Navigation Pro infotainment system that is paired with the Touch Pro Duo interface, the latter featuring two 10-inch touchscreens for you to interface with.
Those aren’t the only screens in the cabin either, as there’s also the Interactive Driver Display represented by a 12.3-inch screen within the instrument binnacle. Additionally, smaller screens within the circular dials and steering wheel controls only present themselves when the car is started, with contextual awareness. As you can see, the rest of the cabin is awash with premium materials too.
However, what is the Velar like to drive and more importantly, is its price tag justifiable? Well, Hafriz Shah is on hand to share his thoughts on the attractive SUV in our video review, so go ahead and give it a watch. Don’t forget to share your thoughts and comments about the Velar below. Happy watching.

This is one beauty. Amazing how the British can build such superb cars!
Shouldn’t you say the Velar is not British anymore, since Indian money made all this possible at Land Rover because Tata is their owner now. Same like you always say Volvo is no longer Swedish after Geely bought them. Forgot your own hypocrisy?
Well the boss is Indian though.
Truly a beauty. Hints of Proton X70 design cues all over the Velar
Truly a beauty. Hints of your eyes needs to be checked
this one will take the crown of banyak masuk workshop from bmw
I wanted to buy a British made car but this is just a CBU Tata India car.
Some say our Proton X70 is BETTER than this car because kononnya, our Proton X70 uses AMG technology from Mercedes as Geely owns 10% of Mercedes AG Germany.
Only you say so, o desperate one. Too much free time to comment and self-reply again? Sales really that bad, huh?
Hafriz, comparison in terms of interior comfort, leg room, refinement, fit & finish, NVH, if this Velar is a 10, what would you score the X70 in comparison?
You can get 4 X70 Premiums for the price of one Velar.
Tested Evoque before, even though the manufacturer claims its powered by 240ps, and high torque, but can’t really feel. I just felt in love with VW’s powertrain TSI+DSG, much pleasure driving with super low fuel consumption.
comparing tiguan which is 3x cheaper ? if you cant afford evoque just say so, dont fake praise your cheapo vw.
Dont look too highly of the evoque. Its assembly quality is terrible for that kind of price. Gaps everywhere between plastic panels. There are definitely better choices out there. Even volvo xc90 is so much better.
who did the subtitle? anyone bother to check it? even the car model name is wrong.
Why are all these noobs above comparing a luxury SUV with a mass consumer SUV like X70? Otak letak kat mana?
Indian owned British Land Rover.
Hopefully , this Indian car had fixed its terrible reliability problems.
Suddently all these Perodua salesman keep talking about X70, you guys really obsess with X70, sign of worry.
even if the x70 and this velar is the same price. i will take the x70.
U made the right choice.
STAY AWAY!!!
At Rm530k if it doesn’t feel more premium than a Rm123k SUV it sure fails badly. Such disparity doesn’t need to be said since it’s understood, unless you’re plumbing new depths of stupidity.
Not only he is showing stupidity, but also desperation. In an article totally unrelated to the X70, he still tries to badmouth the Proton. Seems like the appearance of X70 really threatening his rice bowl.
