RON95 petrol subsidy: employment, dependents to be considered in distribution of targeted subsidies

RON95 petrol subsidy: employment, dependents to be considered in distribution of targeted subsidies

A person’s employment status and their number of dependents will be among the cost-of-living indicators which will be used to determine the criteria for the targeted RON 95 petrol subsidy, reported The Star.

These indicators will be considered as aspects of a household’s expenses, minister of deputy domestic trade and cost of living Fuziah Salleh said.

“If subsidy targeting [for RON 95 petrol] is implemented, it will undoubtedly have an impact on households that rely on RON 95,” Fuziah said, adding that the basic living expenses statistics (PAKW) and the cost of living index (IKSH) developed by the department of statistics (DOSM) will also incorporate these indicators.

Indicators such as dependents and cost of living are considered in the studies developed by DOSM, which means that factors like owning two cars, both husband and wife being employed, having young children in school, or children attending university are all part of the cost of living indicators,” Fuziah said.

As the Malaysian government plans for the implementation of targeted subsidies for RON 95 petrol, it is considering the use of e-wallets and the MyKad national identity card as a mechanism. UTM institute of transport head of legal and quality Siti Ayu Jalil cautioned, however, for potential risks to privacy and data security.

This is becoming really dumb. In the end of the day, Government probably just want to give a bigger handouts to majority, that contribute the least, if not none, to the tax collection.

While the supposed T20/T15 that contributes the most, will be taxed more from 2024 onwards, they are further removed from these subsidies. Apart from businesses that deal with logistics and transports where the owners are T0.1, the real ultra rich, other T20/T15 rarely pump more than $500 per month of petrol, that’s about $3000 subsidy (assume 50%) per year, against 110k tax if the income is $500k in 2023, while in 2022 it was $107.5k. So in essence, that’s just extra $500 subsidy given to them in a year!

Just why is Government & Rafizi beria-ria wanna target this T15? Go chase after big corporations which the government is more than happy to offer tax breaks and close one eye on shady tax filing. To please the bulk of voters under B40, M40, you choose to sacrifice T20 and antagonize them for working hard and earning more. And this B40, M40, T20 and now the introduction of T15 successfully pit the poor to last their anger at the supposed “ultra rich”, for working harder than them, and hence earning more than the “ultra poor”.

personal data security is high at risk here.
If saving a few sen per Litre is at stake, I’d probably forgo the subsidy altogether.

    A family with 5 dependents.
A.A M40 family has 5 kids going college already, but they all have “special “affirmative action ” allowances and or loans.
B.Another family also 5 children, but have to take out huge PTPTN loans to study at UTAR. So who should get subsidy?
So if Rafixi gonna be so detailed,he has to deny those who have graduated with a Rm200,000 study loan n have never paid a single sen,and still banks lulus their loans to buy a 100K BYD.Are these gonna get Ron 95 subsidy?
And if Rafixi machai have to screen each applicant, who is there to ensure it is done fairly?
It seems to us rakyat that more people will be denied fuel subsidy alto we are not T15.
