The Malaysian government will try to keep the price of RON 95 petrol at its current rate of RM1.99 per litre under the Budi Madani RON 95 scheme (Budi95), prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stated, reported Bernama.
The government will try to maintain the price of the widely used grade of petrol despite global market uncertainty due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, said Anwar, who is also finance minister. The increase in global oil prices as a result of disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz is expected to affect the country, though the government is determined to hold the current price of subsidised RON 95 petrol, he said.
“We will give the maximum effort to hold off (on raising prices). But (the market) is beyond our control, and we cannot guarantee there won’t be any price increase,” the prime minister continued.
At present, as of the last fuel price adjustment on February 26, 2026, subsidised RON 95 petrol remains at RM1.99 per litre, while its unsubsidised price increased by five sen last week to RM2.59 per litre. As for diesel, the fuel increased in price by five sen to RM3.04 per litre last week in Peninsular Malaysia; the retail price of diesel fuels in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan remained unchanged at RM2.15 per litre.

You are polluting the human genome with your very existence if you think 1.5 RM /liter is realistic. It was 1.99 and that has been met although it is not very good for the country long term to keep these subsidies, he did keep his word.
Politics aside, subsidies must go, a good segment of the public have become worse than spoiled endtitled brats with their gas guzzlers and ~2 decades old trash cans on wheels.
