2018 Volkswagen Passat GT revealed at Detroit show

First unveiled as a concept back in November last year, the Volkswagen Passat GT now makes its debut in Detroit during the 2018 North American International Auto Show. The limited-run model is based off the existing R-Line trim sold in the United States, albeit with some extra features.

Under the bonnet, the Passat GT is powered by a VR6 3.6 litre V6 engine that produces 280 hp at 6,200 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 2,500 rpm. The mill is found on the V6 SEL Premium variant, and makes more power than the R-Line’s 174 hp/249 Nm 2.0 litre TSI unit.

The VR6 engine is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission, with drive going to the front wheels. Also standard is a sportier suspension setup that sees a lower ride height for a more aggressive stance.

Visual enhancements found on the Passat GT include a honeycomb grille, GT badge and red accent line for the R-Line bumper. There are also two-tone 19-inch ‘Tornado’ wheels, red-painted brake calipers, dual exhausts and smoked taillights. Oh, the roof, mirror caps, spoiler and various other exterior trim are all finished in black.

Inside, you’ll find piano black trim for the centre console and air-con vents, carbon-fibre decor, a black headliner and aluminium GT-badged sills. The seats meanwhile, feature black leather with Moonrock Gray inserts and contrast stitching.

The equipment list also includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, eight-way powered driver’s seat, heated front seats, dual-zone Climatronic climate control, heated side mirrors, LED headlights with LED DRLs, and a Composition Media Infotainment unit with a 6.3-inch touchscreen display.
