The Perodua Myvi first arrived on the scene in May 2005. With 487,400 units sold since then, the five-door hatchback has certainly been popular with the public – that it has been the country’s best-selling model for five years, from 2006 to 2010, states it all.

Of course, as good a run as it has been in terms of numbers, there’s only one way to ensure further success, so it’s time for a change, or at least a complete makeover for the car. The first-generation Myvi was facelifted in August 2008, but now a full revision is at hand with the arrival of the 2011 Myvi.

From a concept point of view, where the old car was defined as a multi-purpose compact (MPC) by the company, the second-gen vehicle is now tagged as an advance multi-purpose compact, or A-MPC if you will, which essentially translates into a refined compact car that continues its predecessor’s tradition of reliability, but with upgraded features and improved vehicle performance.

The incoming car soldiers on in 1.3-litre form – the promise of a 1.5-litre variant hasn’t come to light, unfortunately – and retains the usage of the same platform as before, though revision work has come about with the chassis.

The short of it is that Perodua says that the new Myvi contains more than mere aesthetic changes, and is really an evolution of the outgoing car, featuring a sleeker exterior, a more spacious and refined interior, enhanced safety features as well as improved NVH and better functionality and equipment levels.

Let’s take a look at the changes in the new car, which is available in three variant forms – Standard, Premium and the top-of-the-line Elegance – at point of launch.

Exterior

While the general profile of the car remains similar to the first-generation model (there’s no mistaking that the new car is a Myvi at first glance, after all), a number of styling cues have come about to offer a more refined and sharper-looking shape with this one, which tips the scale at 950 kg up to 985 kg, depending on variant and version.

Dimensions-wise, the 2011 Myvi has the same width as the old car, as well as the same track (front 1,455 mm, rear 1,465 mm) and wheelbase length (2,440 mm), but is shorter and slightly lower. Width remains the same at 1,665 mm, while the 3,690 mm length makes the new Myvi shorter by 60 mm compared to the old one (3,750 mm).

2011 Perodua Myvi – full details and first impressions

While this might suggest a reduction in cabin space, the interior length of the new car is actually up by 15 mm. Strangely enough, the length of the Elegance variant is listed at 3,765 mm, a good 75 mm more than the other two variants (presumably, this added acreage is the result of plastic bits). The height of the new car is 1,545 mm, just 5 mm lower than the older Myvi, the reduction coming about from a revised roof line.

At the front, the bonnet has been revised, offering a more prominent slope to enhance visual styling, and the front also features improved pedestrian collision safety aspects, in compliance with EC market requirements.

The visual effect is aided by a downward scoop that accentuates the new halogen-based projector headlamps the car wears. The new headlamps not only enhance the looks, but offer increased light coverage area and improved night visibility.

New to the Myvi is a front bumper lower lip, which the company tags as an “air spat,” to improve the aerodynamics and is also undoubtedly aimed at helping dress up the car further. Elsewhere, the new Myvi’s wheel arches have been reworked to offer the car a more muscular stance, and the front bumper design features a wide horizontal line to further bolster the presence of the car.

2011 Perodua Myvi – full details and first impressions

From the side, the car has more prominent character lines on the side panels to beef things up, and for the Premium and Elegance versions, the door centre pillar panels have been blacked out to add more dynamism to the side profile.

At the back, the tailgate now has more curves going about it, and visually doesn’t look so flat viewed from dead-on centre. In line with the changes, the rear lamps are a sleeker looking LED combination design.

2011 Perodua Myvi – full details and first impressions

Another new feature is air vents located on the new rear bumper, located under the reflectors. It’s not just for flash – the cut-outs are there to ease pressure build-up on the rear bumper to reduce flapping, something that’s visibly evident on the outgoing Myvi.

The use of UV protected glass is retained for the car; Perodua says this helps cut out UV rays by 91% compared to normal green glass and helps prevent the deterioration of cabin material. Granted, many are going to paste on a window tint film anyway, but it’s nice to know that it’s there.

Interior

2011 Perodua Myvi – full details and first impressions

Contrary to rumours, the new Myvi is not just a mere bumper change facelift, something which is evident in the cabin. The interior dimensions differ from the new car, and the dashboard is also all new. By the way, the new Myvi’s dashboard design is unique to Perodua, and is not shared with the Japanese market Toyota Passo.

The biggest and most obvious change in the dash layout is the relocation of the automatic gear shifter to the centre console, freeing up space between the front seats for knick knacks. However, this only applies to the automatic version – manual transmission cars have the usual floor mounted gear lever, and the space on the centre console is filled by a cubby hole.

2011 Perodua Myvi – full details and first impressions

One of the highlights of the cabin is the new instrument panel, which features Toyota Camry-style meters. Sitting within the central speedo is a round screen that displays a digital fuel gauge, automatic gear position and information such as average fuel consumption and range. The latter isn’t even available on some D-segment cars, so it’s generous for Perodua to make it standard for all Myvi trim levels.

Whether with orange (Standard) or turqoise (Premium) illumination, this new instrument panel gives the Myvi an added sense of occasion and ups the level of “premiumness.” Also contributing to the “more premium feel” is the integrated head unit, which has large buttons and a clear layout. Compared to the old model, this new HU looks more feature rich. The sliver carbon fibre print may not be to all tastes though.

2011 Perodua Myvi – full details and first impressions

Opt for the Elegance spec and you’ll get a full colour 6-inch touch screen head unit with navigation. This is not offered anywhere else at this price point, and really adds to the Myvi’s showroom appeal. This HU comes in piano black trim, which looks nice but is easily smudged. For the Premium and Elegance, chrome trim is available on the shift knob and A/C controls.

2011 Perodua Myvi – full details and first impressions

The familiar “bottle cap” air-con controls are taken from the Alza, and is also similar to those on the pre-facelift Toyota Vios. But closer inspection reveal that the Perodua’s A/C has more functions compared to the two-mode A/C in the Vios. The steering wheel also looks very familiar, although checks show that it’s not from the Alza, JDM Passo or Vios.

It’s more than just the dashboard, as the interior dimensions differ from the old car’s. The 1,850 mm interior length is 15 mm longer than before, while interior width is 20 mm less.

The latter is slightly narrower because of a new, thicker door trim. And in line with the lower overall height, interior height (measured at the B-pillar area, new roofed is more curved) is now lower by 5 mm.

The slightly altered interior dimensions don’t affect the Myvi’s well known cabin space and airiness. But rear passengers will notice a slight decrease in headroom due to the rounder edges of the new car.

Luggage

2011 Perodua Myvi – full details and first impressions

The new Perodua Myvi has 208 litres of boot space, which is actually 17 litres less than the Myvi it replaces that had 225 litres. This is because of increased couple distance (front to rear) and thicker padding for the rear seats.

With the rear seats folded, the new car’s enlarged boot space stands at 595 litres, which is less than the previous Myvi’s 630 litres. The margin is even bigger for the folded seat boot space because of the thicker door trim on the new car.

Equipment levels and features

The three variants offer a total of six versions of the car, which retains the K3-VE 1.3 litre DVVT twin-cam mill – offering 90 hp at 6,000 rpm and 117 Nm at 4,400 rpm – throughout the range.

In Standard form, the car is available in SX five-speed manual and EZ four-speed auto guise, while Premium has the SXi manual and EZi auto, and the respective Elegance versions are the SXE and EZE.

The new Myvi has electric power steering featuring across the entire model range, and Perodua says that with the elimination of the need for the power steering pump has translated into some minor gain in the power output from the engine.

Meanwhile, noise and vibration performance is also improved over the old, with the inclusion of additional insulation on the engine hood, door trim, floor and roof areas.

Round-design fog lamps are to be found on the Premium and Elegance, which also get electric retractable side mirrors and a new 6-spoke 14-inch alloy wheel design. The Standard variant gets 14-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, and the car rides on 175/65 series rubbers.

Inside, the rear 60:40 split configuration seats are extendable by pulling the seat cushion forward over the leg space, offering a flat surface that one can sleep on (well, you can imagine the fun to be had with this one). Alternatively, they can be folded down in full flat mode for cargo purposes. Elsewhere, items such as a shopping hook (or teh tarik holder, if you will) in the Premium and Elegance variants offer up to 3 kg of carrying load.

The seats themselves feature padding and shoulder areas that have been reshaped to provide extra comfort, and the new seat fabric feels softer, the company states – the Standard gets standard grade fabric, while the Premium gets a high grade one.

2011 Perodua Myvi – full details and first impressions

Safety-wise, all variants get dual SRS airbags, which is a welcome move, and the driver’s side gets a seat belt pre-tensioner force limiter. Three-point seatbelts are now to be found for all three rear occupants, and both Premium and Elegance versions come with ABS and EBD and brake assist, but a big plus is the inclusion of ISOFIX mounts on all models for the easy and secure installation of child seats. Something like Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) would have been welcome, but we were told that the reason for its omission is because of the front disc/rear drum brake configuration and the absence of four-wheel ABS.

The Elegance variant features a bodykit consisting of full skirting, side moulding and spoiler, as well as chrome door handles, Elegance badging and tint film compliant with JPJ regulations – those wishing to add the body kit will be pleased to hear that it can be purchased as an accessory in a few months time. Elsewhere, there are also leather seats and Elegance carpet mats, aside from the biggie, which is the touchscreen multimedia four-speaker system with navigation.

2011 Perodua Myvi – full details and first impressions

For this one, there’s USB and SD card support as well as Bluetooth capability for both phone and audio, and the DVD-based system also offers MP3/WMA playback. Meanwhile, the Standard gets a radio/CD player four-speaker audio system with MP3/WMA capability, and the Premium comes with the same, but with USB and Bluetooth added in,

The Myvi is available in six colours, five of these being metallic – Ebony Black, Glittering Silver, Medallion Grey, Pearl White and a new shade called Mystical Purple – and an Ivory White solid shade.

Brief Driving Impressions

2011 Perodua Myvi – full details and first impressions

We got a very brief spin in the Myvi at the car’s preview. However, bear in mind that it was just a small loop of just 4.4 km in Cyberjaya, just enough to exit Cyberview and accelerate to highway speed, before making a u-turn home. We will need an extended drive for a more concrete view, but here’s what we have for now.

The driving experience isn’t very different from what we remember of the old Myvi. The engine can be heard quite loudly in the cabin, but we can also say the same for the RM110k Honda Jazz, so it’s no big flaw. Some in our office noticed improved noise insulation over the previous model, though.

2011 Perodua Myvi – full details and first impressions

The best-selling car in Malaysia is as easy to drive as ever. Visibility is excellent and all the controls are light and effortless. The new EPS steering isn’t the last word in feel and precision, but fulfills its “easy” brief well. Once again, we’ll need a longer stint, but the helm feels a bit less vague than before.

The suspension is new, with retuned spring and damper rates (front dampers by Kayaba, rear dampers by APM) for a firmer ride and better control. Without a back-to-back drive, our short loop didn’t offer a chance to test this out.

2011 Perodua Myvi – full details and first impressions

What we all agreed on is the new cabin, which is offers a more premium feel than the basic old dash. The instruments and head unit are good to look at and work well. In the back seat, the reduced headroom is apparent. It’s still adequate, but no longer generous, as our demo pic shows. The “frame” of the roof is now nearer to the passenger’s head when the seat back is in the most reclined position.

Remember that the new curved roofline helps aerodynamics, which in turn improves acceleration and fuel consumption. The new Myvi is claimed to have 4% better fuel consumption and 15% better for the auto. Besides being more slippery in terms of body aerodynamics, the use of EPS and lower rolling resistance tyres contributes to the cause.

In the media preview, the various test units wore different rubber from Silverstone, Goodyear and Continental – we’re not sure which brand makes it to the showroom.

By the way, Perodua has collected 10,000 orders for the new Myvi since 4th June, and exports to Indonesia starts next month.

Yes GPS. All the more reason for the female drivers to get distracted and rear end you.

With one eye focusing on the GPS and the other on the rear view mirror, it will require an impact to smack those eyes back into position.

The actual reason why the new MyVi is only a few hundred bucks more than the old one is because the new MyVi is totally different from the current Daihatsu Sirion / Toyota Passo, which translates to less royalties needed to pay to Daihatsu and therefore more niceties can be added.

          • Guys. Myvi is a much better car than most of the imported cars and certainly all Protom models. The finishing is good, the engine is one of the best engines, the shape is very good, the space and size fits most malaysian needs, the features are excellent. Which car in the market, from 50 to 60 k price, malaysian or imported, gives these features, safety, design, space, security, after sales, availability of spares, resale?? No doubt it is the best selling car and would remain so. Malaysians are not ignorant when they buy this car.

          • Proton Persona is cheaper n bigger compared to new Myvi ,but then Persona s quality is low.Using CPS Campro Engine and low torque. Myvi is using the K3-VE DVVT engine jointly developed by Toyota n Daihatsu. The engine is powerful and fuel efficient. The same engine is used in Toyota Avanza. That s the reason Perodua has maintained the price at RM 44300.Myvi is also exported to Indonesia under the name of Daihatsu Sirion ,soon be selling like hot cakes.Proton s resale value is low and one has to spend a lot to repair it after a few years, furthermore after sales service is poor and spare part expensive.Proton sales n profit for FY12 has gone down according to OSK Research Sdn Bhd.One of the reason is that many customers have delayed purchase and waiting for new Myvi and also massive losses from its UK subsidiary ,Lotus.

By the way guys, the new myvi said to have a better fuel consumption, 14% better in auto variants while 4% in the manual one.

But if you look at the max torque comparison in the old and this new one.
Old one gives you 116 Nm at 3200 rpm
New one gives you 117 Nm at 4400 rpm

What on earth?, do you think high revs gives you more FC..
1 Nm difference doesn’t give u anything la, u don’t even fell it when accelerating.

But if we looked in the max.torque generated by these models :
Old Myvi gives you 116 Nm at 3200 rpm

Well, do you think the new one gives better FC? From what i think, high torque at low rpm gives you better FC…

if p1 put all stuff like mez or bm and the price like new myvi 57k still P1 kena belasah due to price tag… mentality most malaysian…. harga nak rendah… equip. with no 1 material..

the purpose P1 still here is they produce a car.. for people that can buy a big, cheap and responsive car.. not every one rich like u… what i can say is … if u think P1 can put into museum … tell to DSZ by your self …. at list P1 already go to global….and still grow up.

If Malaysia is not a Commonwealth country do you think that P1 is able to export to others commonwealth country? Yet the citizen of Malaysia is forced to buying an import car which is almost tax over 110% to the consumer is because of P1 exist in Malaysia automotive market.

It is not just a facelift. They have done changes to the interior and especially the dashboard. This will make it more cheaper to produce the automatic models which sells a lot anyway. It’s like Daihatsu has taken their facelift frenzy to a higher level. Personally, I think its a good business move. Its a safe and calculated action to roll out this variant. The target market will accept it. UMW shareholders will appreciate it. Its just more fodder for my R3

I here am sincerely thankful to P2 for giving us all an option (although not that great yet) compared to buying a Proton. With P2 gone, I think we would suffer even more. So P2, big TQ from me!

New MyVi but still using an 11 year old engine.

K3-VE engine was produced by Daihatsu in year 2000. Probably designed in the late 1990s.

So think about it. What you’re getting is an engine from 2 decades ago. No wonder MyVi fuel consumption is terrible. It’s using old technology and selling it to gullible people at high prices.

        wat u talking man?
        be fair..
myvi 11 years old engine is much more better in fuel consumption than recently new proton engines wat..
        i’m talking thrash?
persona owner here..for city drive FC, proton sure sucks man..
cant use all the high revs anyway in a city driving right? (if thats what campro is all about la..)
        :P

          couldnt agree more..
i couldnt even get 400km on a full tank on persona on city driving..
its more like the same when i was using my 1st batch wira..wth?

campro only good for long distance driving only (bcuz of the power/handling)..
but most of us live in the city la, all the high revving campro is totally useless in the city cuz the FC sure sucks..

          blaming my right foot?
i dont even drive above 3k rpm if somebody’s wondering why i say this..
(in fact, how high can u rev with all the traffic jams?)
so yes, campro’s FC sucks in city drive..
n yes, we all balik kampung only once in a while only..
n thats the only time my persona does shine in wat it was build for..
          sighs..

            2007 – Neo 1.6
            2011 – Exora
Been using basically all version of campro engine….no problem at all…
            Gen 2 (6yrs) avg 8L per 100km (auto)
            Neo (4yrs) avg 6.8 L per 100km (manual)
Extra (new) avg 8.5L per 100km (auto)
Basically all can go more than 400km per full tank….more than 500km actually…and when driving through karakoram hiway, no Alza ever over take my exora

            Dear Nizam, Well said!

I think generally fuel consumption has a lot to do with the car’s power to weight ratio (kg/Nm). P1 & P2 needs to better manage this ratio (kg/Nm), including but not excluding better know-how in building it’s own engine & car “weight management”.

For example, your Satria Neo may have slightly better fuel consumption with the new MyVi due to power to weight ratio of Neo (H-Manual): 8.189 kg/Nm and NewMyVi(Sxi): 8.205 kg/Nm.

my experience is.. proton a bit save fuel for long distance journey.. if around city damn kuat makan minyak. Compare to myvi 1.3 n alza 1.5 r alot save around bandar. But i believe alza do better for long distance journey s well. Actually its all depends where or which state u r at. If u driving in big city like kl. of coz fuel consumption higher. If u stay at small city like johor, kuching, miri, kedah, perak, sure low consumption.
But honestly proton campro engine r high fuel consumption.

  • “The slightly altered interior dimensions don’t affect the Myvi’s well known cabin space and airiness.” I’m not agree on this. Yes, there is more leg room, but some how I cant feel the airiness of the old Myvi, due mainly to the tight head room. Guy with 180cm definitely touch the roof. Dunno why the roof is so thick now, hopefully with better insulation during the rainy day (Alza bad on this).

Proton take note of what?? The lowest-spec Myvi starts at RM43k for the manual solid-colored variant. For that price, you can get the Saga FL Executive 1.3, with dual-airbags, auto transmission, steering wheel audio controls, MP3-capable head unit, better interior space and better boot, and no doubt, a much stronger body and chassis.

What is there to take note of??

For a few thousand more, you can get a Saga FL with a 1.6-litre engine that’s definitely nicer to drive than the Myvi Standard Auto version that goes for around the same price!

        What’s the big deal?

    Pathetic.

It is laughable looking at the price they are selling the 1.3 Elegance at, RM$57,400.

At the current level of exchange rate, one could buy a brand new entry level Volkswagen Golf at the same price in the United States.

Is it like one of those fancy DVD player found on the Land Rover in UK where you can see different things on the screen if you look from different angles, like if you’re looking from the driver’s seat you see the NAV mode, but from the pax seat you see movie being played.

If not, why bother with LCD then if you can only play movies when the handbrake is on?

Classically, a new model is when the maker develops the car from the ground up using a new chassis, or make extensive modification from the existing chassis of the outgoing model.

New body panels i.e. bumpers, fenders and lamp clusters does not a new model make.

In layman’s terms, a new model should not look like the existing/outgoing model. Examples are like the previous gen Honda Civic (7th Gen) to the New FD Civic, Honda City, Toyota Vios, and the Satria Neo. These cars bare more than just passing resemblance to the model it replaced.

The term ‘Facelift’ is likened to giving your wife a facelift to take off 10 years from her looks. ‘New Model’ is likened to getting a new wife to replace the one you have.

        “Aiyoooooo!”

kalau mcm tu boleh la gelarkan SAGA FL sebagai new model….pasal headlamp ngn rear lamp baru…walaupun nama FL tu merujuk pada facelift..
model baru bermaksud model/jenis/spesis yang pertama seumpamanya dan bukan model lama yg dikitar semula…sudah jelas namanya masih MYVI…MYVI…jadi ia model lama yang cuma dibuat penambahbaikan…bukan model baru..huh!

After years assembling cars, Perodua still stuck with rebadging…
To quote “Contrary to rumours, the new Myvi is not just a mere bumper change facelift, something which is evident in the cabin. The interior dimensions differ from the new car, and the dashboard is also all new. By the way, the new Myvi’s dashboard design is unique to Perodua, and is not shared with the Japanese market Toyota Passo. ” -> this does not change the fact that Perodua is wasting its engineering capabilities….

Are u sure?!? Please check around the net before commenting.

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile_safety

“Active safety” is used to refer to technology assisting in the prevention of a crash and “passive safety” to components of the vehicle (primarily airbags, seatbelts and the physical structure of the vehicle) that help to protect occupants during a crash!

          http://www.funandsafedriving.com/encyclopedia-5.html

Passive safety features include safety belts, airbags, special interior materials, collapsible exterior parts, etc.

The main safety is for the occupants not the car dude! So air-bags, seatbelts are consider as passive safety also!

The dash looks like Suzuki alto and the body looks abit like i10? Am I the only person seeing it? But if they maintain the same price with a 1.5 engine and maybe 6 or minimum 5 speed why not? Why is 4speed auto still around assuming the cycle for this car is 5 years? But having said that nice dashboard

Jo you need to admit Fiesta is slightly a bit better than new Myvi. Whatever reason you put in Fiesta got 1.6 and Myvi will have 1.5 so difference is 0.1c.c. While for exterior I can not comment cause it’s personal choice some people say Fiesta ugly and otherwise. The major advantages from Myvi is the price at least RM20k cheaper and maintenance. You pay more you need to spend more on maintenance.

  • Actually, since there is a lot of negative comment about this car, our g should subsidies this car by reducing the price and impose higher taxation on foreign cars. Cmon man… this is a malaysian car and we should be proud of it. It is design by our own ppl. Our g should control the import flow of foreign cars or maybe ban and leave p2 n p1 alone. To me, I think, this is the BEST car ever and a huge improvement with daihatsu engine. 1.3 will do. Why would ppl want to get 1.5 when most drivers are soo slow. Waste of money. Seriously, if I’m the decision maker of p2, I will stop Viva and the old Myvi, create a new brand like Perodua Kijang, Kerbau etc and standardise 660cc. I personally think that will be the best idea. Why want to drive 1.3? Why need a powerful engine?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
    • I just want to add. I notice that I see more foreign cars on the road which really saddens me. Although those foreign cars are way more expensive than p2 and p1, a lot of malaysians still buys it. Really disappointing. Cmon Malaysians, be a good and supportive citizens. Do we really want our funds to flow out to foreign hands? We must support our local industry. Be a proud malaysian guys. At least, if some portion of our funds flow to our g, but we should consider that our g is still in our family as they are also malaysians. We must be proud of our nation. The g knows what they are doing so we should leave it to them and do our part. To buy local products.

As far as this new Myvi is concern, I actually feel tat 1.3 engine is tooo powerful. As I mentioned, 660 will do and change the name to at least Kijang, Kambing Kerbau, Kandang etc… I seriously love this car but only the engine capacity is too large. The price is reasonable though. But they should mark up the price to at least 70k plus on par with inspira. If not where are they going to get the profit? We as a smart p2 business men must think of the outcome where if there is less sales, RM50k plus will not cover the cost. So p2 should mark up the price to RM70k. If I’m the decision maker, I would make to RM85k because got GPS. and it’s a new model. Because we should understand that new model must be more expensive than old model. If we give cheap, we will feel cheated. That’s why smart ppl must think a like

I ttotally agree with you. So many foreign cars especially in the 70k to 90k bracket though with the same price you can get P1 or P2 cars…but the basic question need to be asked.

        Why?

The answer is very clear..our beloved local car (P1 especially) was sooo bad in quality!

Come few years, you will see Cambodia and Vietnam overtaking us. Forget our old rivals South korea, Taiwan , singapore and the likes. They are now light years ahead of us in all aspects, eg technology, innvation and creativty. Instead we are still bogged down with racists and untouchable Perkasa, utusan seks and the Umnoputras.

They’re not really improving on the engineering aspect, instead it’s more of a design exercise. Local Perodua designers are pretty good at that, I’d say. Especially the cockpit design. After all, the original base design of the body did come from Perodua.

Other than that, the old 1.3 engine is a major letdown. One would expect the same new, modern motor for this car as in Passo and Boon. I’m pretty sure handling and ride cannot match Lotus trained Proton engineers. And I agree with everyone, it’s more of a facelift rather than brand new. Especially the engine.

It’s UGLY from outside but quite ok INSIDE with premium feeling. At first glance, the front bumper look like the first generation of myvi with same design curve, the back bumper look like the first generation of myvi also. Try compare yourself. Just change a bit design on the curve and call it new myvi. Outside look more like a facelift to me. But inside totally changed! LOL, RM57K for top spect is very expensive, the accesories is not worth it for additional RM6.5K.

Overall rating, SO SO and doesn’t give any WOW factor except the Camry-style meters (You wont get this camry style in any of this segment, not even the RM110K Honda Jazz)
Malaysian product should be sold at a reasonable MALAYSIAN PRICE. The extra margin goes to the shareholder pocket money like UMW!

They cut the original gear box hole and put it in the dashboard, if you’ve driven myvi before you will say it’s old gear box HOLE facelifted for storage. LOL

They should put a gated type gear shift because with that kind of angle, it’s very easy to shift to either GEAR 3 or GEAR D or even N without noticing it until you press your fuel pedal.

If you press your fuel pedal and it’s not going anywhere, please check your gear level should be in the N already. LOL

BUT add in another RM 7,000 to get Touch screen SatNav (which you can only watch DVD movies when the car is parked) , Pleather seats (P=PVC, so its P-leather) , carpet matts with elegance design and body kits….

get the premium one, save the 7000 grand on a smartphone with gps, and Ipad 2 to entertain other passengers , the pleather seats and body kits can be retrofitted at a lower price too…

HUhu, nice car from PERODUA. Anyway, don just compare the price or just OLDED model. Anyway, it is nicer then old myvi. Is not to say that still same or just facelift. For me, is new look for Myvi or PASSO from Japan. The price is ok because most of the techologic are in the car, for example the instrument panel look diffenrent to others. Overall, looks ok for me. Is like buying a Ramly burger VS McD. Which burger u perfer.?? hahahahha… Good job perodua……

personally do not like myvi, maybe most of the people own and like it becoz of its fuel consumption kot…did not own myvi but ever drove it….fuel consumption, new steering, meter, isofix and three point is two thumbs up but the ride height, aircond(hot), middle “hole” at its dashboard, gear knob and cornering two middle finger. well, every car has its pro and cons but this myvi is way out of my expextation. xoxo lah. please revise its pricing especially for 1.5 version soon.

Such a hooo haaa and at the end it is just a facelift. Wake up eveyone and look at the car, it took 6 years to develop a facelift. How long will P2 take to come out with a new totally a new model,10 years ,15 years. We are always behind technology and futures on automoblle industry.P1 and p2 is always making the rakyat a fool by coming out with a model that has been absolute elsewhere.P1 and P2 just realise the needs of an Airbag in a car and the airbag was 1st intreduced in 1985.
P1 and P2 is good in cosmetic changes and not on safety features.

I’m currently a Gen-2 user and I’ve been disappointed in my car quality. Annoying creaking sounds comes from the rear, creaking suspensions (after 30k only), flimsy plastics, broken door handle, and terrible FC (and I’m a car loving person). I always hated the old Myvi, but the same time i bought my Gen2 and my friend bought the Myvi, it was evident that up till now his car is far more reliable than the Gen-2 ever been. His engine was still smooth, no weird creaking sound, no broken (faulty) equipment replaced; everything was OK.
I hope the new Myvi will still offer the same reliable quality as the previous model. Maybe this time I’ll switch to Perodua, if Proton still cease to improve its quality.

P/S: And to those saying that this is expensive, FYI the 1.3 Passo (New) debuts for USD16k in Japan.

Please do give constructive criticism n put your sorrows behind. even ifs priced High, Perodua received thousands or pre-orders but at the same time Proton have thousands of cars parked in the warehouse , they even need to rent some land and car park areas to park they miserable cars… begging people to buy them… lol Wake up people… Im not a fan of Perodua either, but i would chose perodua over proton anytime. I’m a neutral person and I’m not siding Myvi or Saga cuz I have both.

In anyway, I will share my experience on both cars.

    Myvi

    The good side
    1. FC is much better.
    2. Auto transmission is able to engage the gears faster (lower change slips)
    3. Transmission ratio is optimized with engine peak torque and able to cruse @ 110km/less than 3000RPM
    4. Small turning radius 4.7m and it’s perfect for a city car.
    5. Timing chain is maintenance free. (no need to have every 100k worries)
    6. Functional seats arrangements.
    7. Spacious
    8. Functional cup holders, compartments and etc.

    The bad side
    1. NVM is rubbish.
    2. Handling is rubbish.
    3. Front brake disk do have to skimmed every now and then to solve the steering shake.
    4. Brakes felts like cheese and rubber.
    5. Small boot space (as expected). That’s why I have a Saga too.

    Saga BLM

    The good side
    1. Handling is great. (The steering feels is similar to the previous BMW 3 series).
    2. NVM at low speed is great. It handles bumps, road noise perfectly. At this price, it’s fantastic.
    3. Price to function is great.
    4. Spacious and with a boot!
    5. High speed handling is good.

    The bad side
    1. FC is rubbish
    2. Auto transmission and engine are rubbish. (engine sounds too harsh and transmission is slipping like crazy)
    3. 110km needs more than 3000RPM. Sounds harder at crusing speed.
    4. Seats are not flexible.
    5. Cup holders are not too user friendly.
    6. No ABS (but expected for that price).

All in all, both cars have their merits and evils. Still both are good cars I must say. For the price and the functions, it’s works well for me. I have clocked almost 200k on my Myvi and still going strong with minimal problems. Pretty reliable car.

For Saga BLM, it’s still running around 40k and so far, not much issue and looking forward to serve me longer. :)

Myvi is around 12 to 13km/l
Saga BLM is around 10 to 11km/l.

both FC is tracked via same route to work and both are pump to max, then run over 1 week and repump to max for measurement. :)

    The Price :-
When Myvi proved to be the most sellable car in Malaysia, Perodua thinks that it is ok for them to sell with a higher price such as the Elegance variant. But for me it’s too high and unrealistic price as they know people will buy it. With a bodykit, leather seats, GPS panel and others for another 7k more? I was quite surprised with the differences of the price between premium & elegance. Seriously, it’s unrealistic. It’s supposed to be a car for rakyat.

    The Design :-
Nice design, exterior & interior. It is notable. I don’t have much comments on the design.

    The Engine & Transmission :-
Same 1.3 engine? Ok la for me. But the transmission is still 4AT. Maybe it’s a small car to have 5AT.

Based on the above, IMHO, price is the downside of this new myvi. What can we expect from a 1.5 Myvi? 65k-68k for the elegance? All i can say is that Perodua must be kidding & crazy. Yang sekarang punya price pun is too much for a small NATIONAL car.

i agree….although the added upgrades and features are welcomed, the price is tad on a high side given that its only a 1.3 engine (no tweak from old).
i cant imagine the 1.5 price.
national cars suppose to be affordable to rakyat where u see other country’s national car is selling cheap in its own homeland…..different case here sadly.

I test drove the car last night, the Premium 4AT. My first impressions:
    1. Good sound insulation, from engine and road noise.
    2. EPS feels loose with ‘free play’ at lower speeds, but ok at higher speeds.
    3. With sudden acceleration, the AT goes back and forth, searching for the right gear.
    4. R&H is average, but damping is good.
    5. Meter combi is clear, but the graphics is a bit ‘busy’ for me.
    OTHERS:
    1. Exterior looks the same as the old, except for the front.
    2. The interior biggest difference is the In-Panel.
    3. The 2 tone color makes it look spacious.
    4. The ICE sound system is poor – especially the bass and mid range.
    5. The fake carbon fibre look on HVAC panel is ‘tacky’.
    6. Interior fit and finish is OK.
    7. Boot space is smaller than previous.
    8. Use space saver tire.
    9. Steering wheel and hand brake have soft feel.
    10. Seat belts for 5 people, wtih center roof mounted.
    11. No crash rating indicated in the catalog. ??

  • First before visit p2 showroom before launch l thought the same way like you, too. The problem still persist; the young couple should used to center hole, they must custome-made pillow if they’re certain they don’t engage handbreak.

Perodua simply take Passo bench seat and opt for footbrake instead of handbreak. They’ll loose substantial young market for this decision. Perhaps, Perodua reserved for 1.5 variant? Perodua Myvi 1.5 RE romantique edition

      its bcuz..
proton made (most of) their models themselves..
while perodua needs to pay royalties to daihatsu/toyota for rebadging their model..

      same la like inspira..
inspira 1.8 is pricier in langkawi/labuan than the original lancer gt 2.0 u know?
why is that? isnt proton also the national carmaker?
how can the price be higher than the ori one n ur calling urself a national carmaker?

so, if u want cheap..we should make the car ourself..all the components..
      dont use/rebadge others…
we use others technologies, we have to pay to them..

    6. Brakes feels soft and ‘spongy’, not instant grip.
    OTHERS:

bro, if proton close down.. there will no competitor for p2. As the result, P2 will suck u up with unreasonable price. Looked now even P1 exist, they put crappy expensive price for their car. Then we rakyat will suffer due to expensive local car.

Biar proton terus hidup agar ada persaingan.

      Think B4 speak bro.

      • Agree with you bro, I hope other P1 supporters are as diligent as you are. They think P1 is suffering because of P2 is there but they never thought of that it’s because of P1’s own incompetency that cost them their arms and legs. I for one welcome both to exist (but please improve dramatically) as we are always left with no choice to purchase overtaxed cars.

If u want at least 1,300cc and 4 doors, there’s only Myvi, Saga, Persona under RM60K and Perodua knows how to continue to capture this segment well without giving us any real improvement on the engine or drivetrain that might reduce their profit margin or increase cost.

But don’t forget why this situation continue to exist and who is preventing other makes from entering this price segment.

New Myvi 1.3 maybe can defeat Proton Saga 1.3, but not Proton Saga 1.6L. Increasing sales of New Myvi 1.5 next year will decrease sales of Perodua Alza, means it killing Perodua Alza’s sales. Wonder New Myvi 1.5 can defeat Proton Persona Elegence 1.6…hehehe..can’t wait what will happen to Perodua after Proton Emas and Proton Tuah are launch..

imo, myvi1.5 won’t affect much the sales of saga1.3.
currently, even the myvi1.3 is pricier than saga1.3.
with the introduction of myvi1.5, it will be the highest offering with highest price.
unless it is fully-equipped with latest tech, it will be a dissapoinment.

as for emas, i’m considering this small car also. modern styling in&out, spacious.
given the right formula, this emas will surely boost proton sale.
maybe this emas will be the proper savvy-replacement.

i have both myvi premium & gen2 hi-line. each serves best at their design parameters.

      no fuss. u think u like, u test-drive 1st :)

In Japan, the new Model of Toyota Passo is badged with a new CVT transmission and a new 1.3L engine…That’s is why there’s is a new generation of Toyota Passo.

However, at here…We do not get the new CVT transmission and the new 1.3l engine…Instead we get 4spd auto and dated K3 engine from the previous myvi.

    Another top seller again.

Just test drove the car (premiun spec) just now and improvement can be observed as compared to the my previous 2007 Myvi:-

    1) Better pick up.
    2) Better noise insulation (improved NVH)
    3) better suspension (harder)
    4) dashboard more solid and look better.
    5) door panel and seat more solid feel.
    6) lower headroom at the back but no problem for 5′ 11″ height.
    7) no more noise aircon compressor.

Overall the car shown improvement and expected to be close to vios and city when 1.5 launch later.

    Good works P2.

let us face it, perodua is not building any car,be it myvi or whatever, they just re-batch and assemble the car(taken from daihatsu/toyota models).and i wonder what is the purpose of perodua by government? if compared to proton, proton is really a car manufacturer by malaysian. why can’t perodua be like proton? ????????????????not only work for japanese but learn and build(from japanese) our own malaysian car at cheaper prices.or else just ask the dahaitsu open their factory here and sell at really cheaper prices.

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0
    • FYI, this is not re-batch, nor it is rebadge. The platform might be same but didn’t you notice all the interior and exterior different from the Daihatsu Boon? And I guess you didn’t know P2 Myvi exterior and interior design is unique to P2 only.

So when you say you are pissed off or disgraced with P2’s platform sharing, are you pissed off at P1 when they say they wan to rebadge lancer? Very bias oh u…. Want shoot shoot both together ok…

I went to the showroom this afternoon, and i was quite disappointed with this car. The interior was nice to look at, but once you lay your hands on it, it is total disaster! It is so very plasticky, that i find the old MyVi have better plastics! i knocked on the panels, it feels so hollow. The gaps are not even, the middle console is so similar to that of the old MyVi (i wonder if they are the same). The door trim, even for the elegance variant, which comes with leather seats, are only fabric! and only a small part of it have fabric!! the rest are very hollow plastics!!! When the doors are closed, i find my knees touching to the door panels, something that won’t happen in the old MyVi. Then the rear 3-point seatbelt for the middle seat, it doesn’t go around your waist, which i do not think is safe enough.

You guys might say i am bashing this MyVi, i am actually not. I am just comparing the old MyVi with this new MyVi. A new replacement should be better than its predecessor, but not so in this case.

However, i must admit the meter panels, the head lights and the rear combi lamp are good improvements over the previous model!

in case of the middle seat belt, i really think you dont know how to use it. it has 2 buckles, stupid, and it goes around your waist.

better plastic in the old myvi? the old one easily scratched, not this one though.

hollow? try kia forte. it is much more hollow.

  • I seriously want to express my gratitude to our great deputy PM Tan Sri Muyiddin Yassin who have attended the launching ceremony of the new Myvi. However, what saddens me is that other ministers like former PM Tun Mahatir Mohammad, Pak Lah, Najib tun Razak, Nazir Razak (CIMB), Michael Choong, Chua Soi Lek Samy Vellu etc did not attend. It would be great if they would as it would be more joyful and will cheerful scenario.

I seriously love this car as it is big and sporty. The engine size should be 660cc and not 1.3 because we should understand that most malaysians drive very slow and always like to keep a distance during traffic jam. So I personally feel that it is no point giving a very large engine when we malaysians in general do not speed. Even during traffic jams also not really bumper to bumper but rather, distance to distance as ppl scared they hit each other.

Further more, having a lower cc means lower road tax cost. Our great citizens of malaysia will be happy if we pay for lower road tax with lower cc. That is the benefit of having lower cc. So seriously, perodua should recall back their new Myvis and replace the engine into smaller ones. That will also benefit the company as it incur lower cost. P2 can grab the l200 mira of 660cc (p2 kancil version).

Okay…can’t comment so much now. Need to go outstation now. Will be back on Sunday. Stay tune

not really true. with smaller cc engine, means lighter engine, hence p2 can design myvi with a hole under driver seat, so driver can use their feet to push the car forward to give it more torque

        Kazai,

In town driving esp jams, smaller cc engine normally safe more fc, better still if the engine is SOHC compare to DOHC. Larger cc normally for distance driving to sustain top speed. If you compare Myvi 1.3 DOHC and saga 1.3 Campro IAFM DOHC in KL town where there are lots of traffice lights and jams, confirm Myvi fc would be better.

automotive industry in Malaysia is similar with airlines industry here.

Proton = MAS : going global all over the world but not make profit. Loosing money year by year.
Perodua = Airasia : not so global. only selected profitable nations only. low fare but sucking from cargo or luggage charge. Good business strategies. Very profitable company.
Naza = Firefly. underdog. Just cukup-cukup makan.

      i understand pt. no. 2,

      that’s what ergonomic means.
in earlier gen2, due to those handles, the switches are located at centre console.
      for me that is good.
in latest persona, since there are no more handles, it is attached back to the arm rest.

did P2 r&d misses this obvious thing?

      haha…

even the location of 1st gen myvi pw switches is prone to water instrusion if we operate during rain (i mean, u have to scroll down the window to pay for toll, rite?)

LOL, nice nice. If convert to JDM, can convert front, but cannot convert the rear because the rear body frame work has been redesigned to fit the new design of rear lamps. Unlike the previous Myvi can be fully modded back to JDM.

To all the P1 fanboys that are jealous of P2 success, learn from them instead of bashing them.

Dont get jealous, its so evident here that you are jealous of Myvi’s success in Malaysia.THe more you bash Myvi,it shows the more jealous you are.And when that happens,we P2 fans are even more happy.

Cause we manage to make P1 fanboys lose face.Hahaha, grow up and learn to improve lah.If not ,you guys will forever make rubbish cars like Saga.

Saga engine is like crap,FC is utter rubbish and the car tends to break down when you are rushing to an important meeting.Doesnt it sound famliar?

Yeah, thats the problem with Proton.Too bad,you think you have good handling people will buy your car?

You think your car has harder metal and heavier, ppl will buy? Ppl are not stupid. They recognise good quality stuff. And they know that Proton has always been rubbish no matter how good the blardy lotus handling is.

So wake up and smell the coffee P1 fanboys,we are gonna rip your SAGA sales apart. And nobody will ever buy a SAGA again.

Just wait and see. This Myvi is destined to be NO.1 again for many years to come.

You work for Produa is it? Can give me some inside story?

Is it true that Perodua purposely installed thin brake discs so that over time the disc will warp and reduce braking ability and cause drivers to crash and Produa can sell more spare parts and charge high repair labour? Profit!

Milo tin car. Just google and see how many people crashed and died in MyVis. How many burnt alive after a little collision?

Just test drove the new Myvi as my younger brother who just start working already booked it since 4th june for his 1st ever car.

When I drove it, it totally feels the same as the old myvi, except the outside noise reduction slightly improved. Else, it’s still the old myvi. Major changes are only the exterior & interior design. That’s all. At first, the price is the big letdown, now when i drove it, the feeling is the 2nd big letdown too.

I guess people who never own a Myvi will like it but for current myvi owners who want to change to this new myvi might be disappointed with it. So good luck to all buyers.

If 1.5cc myvi will come out with price ranging between 64k – 68k, i guess those buyers will have to look towards toyota Vios J spec which a LOT better with 3-4k more (if myvi is 68k) and your monthly repayment is about 30-70 ringgit a month more (estimated)…or even a Naza Kia Forte with 6 speed, bigger body..(but low resale value)..

Not to say that I’m bashing P2, just that it’s a national car which should help the rakyat to have a good and cheaper car. If Kia can give latest technology in their products and maintains it’s cheap price, why not P2?

  • Myvi 1.3L 2011 vs Saga FL 1.6

Myvi has so many great new features e.g. electric folding side mirror, Electric Power Steering (EPS), Dual Airbags for all variants, ABS with EBD & BA, Dashboard Auto Shifter, very cool Camry-inspired instrument panel, 5 inch touch screen with GPS, bluetooth, USB etc….while retaining the old yet reliable 1.3L K3-VE engine but quite pricy for premium and elegance variant.

Saga has an improved 1.6L Campro IAFM engine and Dual Airbags, good ride and handling but no ABS with EBD & BA, EPS, electric side folding mirrors but price is cheaper than Myvi premium and elegance variants.

In the long run, factors such as FC, trade in value and spare parts availability must be considered carefully before choosing my first car. So hard to choose lah, guys. Please can anyone share their honest opinions on both cars ? Thanks, all help are greatly appreciated.

it really depends on your needs. if u travel a lot, i think saga is more suitable, as it has more storage space and better ride & handling. the 1.6 engine capacity also come handy when u need it (when kena cucuk from cars behind you, then u can show them some colour…haha).

MyVi on the other hand, is more suitable for short distance driving, and usage in town, as it is more compact (easy parking and maneuver).

For me, if you are buying a car as a main car, saga should be a better buy. if it is a second car, both also good, depending on your needs.

      Hope this helps!

Spare parts – you got to change power window switches every 3 months,

Fuel consumption – Driving a 1.3 at speeds above 90kmh actually uses more fuel than a 1.6 at 90kmh. K3-VE engine lacks power and you tend to rev higher to get more power hence the high fuel consumption.

Robbery target – since only women and daffodils drive this car. Get ready to be mugged and raped.

Theft target – Due to the high number of MyVis crashing and parts failing, thieves steal MyVis and strip out the parts to be sold to spare part dealers. When your car is stolen, your insurance company will only offer you 70% of your sum insured and that will take more than a year to be settled, while you’re without a car and have to continue paying your loan installments.

If you get rear ended, (probably by another MyVi that has bad brakes) your rear passengers’ chances of survival are slim. They will most likely end up paralysed due to neck injury. You will be held accountable. (not by law but by your own conscience)

If you want to be burnt alive, buy a MyVi. (Bad brakes + wobbly/floaty ride will cause you to crash, and when you crash the engine catches fire – a built in feature courtesy of Produa)

When you die, resale value will not be relevant to you.

      Bro,

Both cars have pro & cons. Just like Vios vs City. Really depends on you, what you really want and what is your budget? I feel Myvi is a bit over price although Myvi’s overall engine is stable. As for Saga 1.3/1.6, the fc is at the higher side but have a larger body.

My opinion why not you get persona 1.6 lowest spec. Price vs the size ok lah, larger space compare to both Myvi and Saga. Tq.

  • Been to the showroom today. Been driving the original Myvi for 6 yrs or so. Was not really impressed/ felt anything, when seeing the car from the outside. Expected reaction after 6 years with the Myvi. So went on with the usual sit in front, sit at the back, check the boot. And slowly found that the exterior’s back and side is quite appealing. Although the front is nothing to wow about but in darker colours it all seems to be ok.. Definately don’t like what they did to the dashboard. To me the original dashboard of the Myvi reflected the exterior look of the car and if you like the outside the dashboard is a continuation of the impression on the inside. It has a somewhat unique design to it that I didn’t see elsewhere from cars in this price range before. I can say that I was sold more on the old dashboard more than anything during the purchase of my myvi. … Shorter roof height, seemingly thicker doors for sound insulation?, smaller cabin space, smaller boot space, electric power steering…..Hey wait a minute…..why are they reducing the spaciousness of the myvi??? which was one of it’s main selling points……. it’s like indirectly telling me that this thing should be able to go faster on highways.

    Excitement!!!!.
Dunno how many times I’ve driven on highways and eh hemm… pushed the car over 130km/h…. are they saying that I should be able to do that now without the scary feeling???
Boy they sure studied the drawbacks customers would have encountered after soo many years with the car….

Now I’m interested to errrr… test drive the car (zoooom…)
Especially the 1.5 version….. seems like they are preparing the body for this new engine…..

        Hi there,

U must understand the trend. Normally students and young generation ppl own this type of cars. Example when first Kancil came out, you will see ppl speeding with it. Then Kelisa/Kenari and now Myvi. To me driving faster is not wrong. Reckless driving and kiasu atitude is the main problem. Beating the traffic lights overtaking without signal lights, that is unacceptable. Do these drivers have a religion? This is basice common sense and character!!!

  • more is always better but I always see alot myvi travel more than 130km/h,I’m curious are they 1.3L?
New myvi Projector headlamp always great since people like to switch to HID so much, without projector they always blind me and hurt my eyes.

This new MyVi got a rear centre 3-point seat belt, but personally I don’t like it because the way the seatbelt is anchored may obstruct rear visibility. Plus, you still have to manually anchor the lower point of the seat belt when wearing it.

I wonder why P1 have to limit their color choice for 1.6 Saga, first basic model only red available, now higher spec only white is available, why no metalic ? R they trying to clear of those unsale stock Taxi again ? Full spec still no ABS, EDB & BA, even the real lamp been built extra small, cost saving ?? Still no foldable real sit, real window cannot go down fully, sigh…

Saw it in Empire yesterday. I must admit, it’s an impressive looking car. The auto’s gear stick is a little uncomfortable, but I think most people won’t change gears that often, so it’s not that big an issue. Even though dimensions are about the same, somehow the car looks HUGE in real life. Maybe just the white color…

Strange p2. Still making expensive “small” cars with almost no luggage compartment. What’s the target market 4 this car? Most malaysian middle class (most with families) wanted a car which can carry alot of stuffs, not to mention their family members. Yet still p2 makes this kind of car with a 40k+ price tag. If u were a clerk with a family of at least 4 going back to hometown during weekends, what kind of car would u want? Myvi is a nice car, low fc and runs like “lipas kudung” but where r u going to put all ur luggages? Remember….four persons worth of luggages. Many time i’ve seen myvi owners hanging their shirts and pants inside because of lack of space in the trunk.

I also own a P2 ( Just a 2003 Kancil) and when my 2nd child was born i realize that my kancil won’t fit. So i began to go shopping for a bigger car. My wife loves Myvi. But at the showroom, when i pop the trunk open, i automatically reject Myvi. The trunk is so small with a price tag of 40k+. Finally i choose a Persona while still retaining my kancil. Persona maybe ugly, gas guzzler (sometimes) and underpowered but it sure is the right car for FAMILY GUYS like me. SAGA BLM also can….

seen this new myvi yesterday @ pubic bank jln yap kuan seng.
abt the exterior. i think its nothing much to say. my oppinion is… theres too much myvi otr & too many variants. i thought they all looks the same :p well known myvi style.

    btw, my wife & i owns a myvi & a savvy.
my wife is changing her myvi & buy saga. coz her myvi gaves us too much problem already.& monthly installment is very high.& we r trading in the myvi instead of savvy is because other than bigger space (nway, its still a small car) we think that myvi has nothing else special. on most long @ short journey we prefer to use savvy. small front driver & passenger legroom & no footrest makes long journey quite unconfortable on myvi. i saw the new myvi have not much change on that.

nway, after my wife & i seen the myvi. we agreed that is we r abt to spend 50K – 60K for a car, rather than myvi, we r quite sure we’ll prefer persona elegance. lots more space, better premiumness, ride&handling, sound insulation.bigger engine thus more power.
not many know that persona elegance performance is different & better than older persona. gps & auto cruise some more.

nway, with this new myvi, i realy love those small detail p2 put on their cars. premium looks, that what makes produa sells like hot cakes even though i thought p1 supporters are more than p2’s on the net. price is very high but all the small details & useful functionalities are just so nice. camry-inspired meter.. fuyooh.. tangkap leleh siot..

For most of us, we don’t really have much choice.

If I get the Proton using Campro IAFM, Myvi basically a Daihatsu which is mostly if not fully, Toyota….i think that is the biggest difference.

    Fuel consumption.

Proton may be bigger in size but after 3 years no idea the auto box n engine, other parts still better than those found in the Perodua.

Sick and tired of all the bashings, P1 vs P2 crap; took longer to load the site just to load all the comments, which, 90% are effing nonsense. Go TEST DRIVE other cars (yes, test drive only, you don’t have to buy to get the feel of the car, and please, when comparing cars, dont just compare the hp, torque, etc, test everything; suspension, cabin noise, interior quality, practicality, everything). P1 and P2 are the SAME. You’ll know what I mean once you’ve driven cars other than those made by P1 & P2. And we are unfortunate because we live in a country that limits free trade. Open your mind my fellow countrymen, open your mind.

      Myvi is a city car.
      1) suitable for student drive to school
      2) suitable for OL drive to work
      3) suitable sales person run around city
      4) suitable for aunties go to ‘pasar’

      NOT for:
      1) run up and down highways (long distance), low weight, low stability, low comfort
      2) run up and down genting highland or cameron highland
      3) family with kids, MPV is the way to go, or at least saloon car
      4) people frequent outstation. these businessman afford comfort conti car.

      So:
      1) airbags considered useless, normally drive less than 60km/h.
after braking and crash at 20km/h airbags won’t activate
      2) ABS brake also useless, coz too much cars in the city (left or right) still crash

Please ask all Perodua sales rep to read it at FB-ChildSafetyInCars to learn about Iso-fix & LATCH System.

    Sir,

I sent you an e-mail to you on 2nd Aug. with regard to the warranty on the 2011 Myvi which I am keen to purchase. I have so far not received any feedback. Apparently I see you want to sell your cars, but you are afraid to commit yourselves when it comes to terms in black and white, except , of course in the Purchase Agreement. I see it’s the same with Proton, Hyundai, Suzuki.

It’s sad that you want the customers to cough out their money, but you’re not willing to cough out your commitment openly.

  • I never owned a Perodua before. My first car years ago was the Proton Saga LMST.
I own a Conti now (i won’t say which car), but I still love the Saga LMST even though it cant even compare 5% of the Conti .
Honestly never really bothered about Perodua, even though I hear people say Perodua quality is much better than Proton.
So i went to try this new 2011 1.3 Myvi . Premium version for test drive. I was really, honestly, sincerely pleasantly surprised. I’m not much of a speeding person. So comfort/cabin noise was the biggest concern to me. And the Myvi’s cabin noise and car vibration at stand-still was the biggest good surprise to me, because it really could compete with my Conti. I kid you NOT.
At lower/normal speeds the cabin noise of the 2011 Myvi was surprisingly quiet. I’m not sure about speeds above 100kmh though because I could not test drive it to that speed.

I did not want to doubt Proton, although I was expecting at least SOMETHING from the Saga FLX. So I too went to try the Saga FLX. The handling was good. The cabin noise? Total “wtf?”. Sounded the same as my Saga LMST. Noisy at highway speed (got to test highway for the Saga FLX). Engine was noisy. Wind noise was very apparent, the SAME trait of the Saga LMST. And I was hoping the Saga would have gotten better over the years.. Quite a big disappointment there to me.
My friend took over the test drive, I sat behind. I really don’t know was it my friend’s test driving cornering-fast style, or was it the bassy ‘woooo’ of the road noise at the rear seats. But I REALLY got a headache and nausea feeling. Seriously, was really quite disappointed in the Saga FLX.
The only thing I guess if people really need , like REALLY need a bigger boot space. They can go for the Saga , but don’t say you were not warned.

As for me? I would rather die than to get the new Saga FLX. As I plan to keep my car for a longer time, I wouln’t want to buy something I hate even if it has a bigger boot space than the Myvi.

I’m not even a Proton or Perodua fan. This is my honest unbiased opinion.

And honestly, it kinda disgusts me the way some of the Proton or Perodua fans here defend or insult the other brand. No class at all.

  • What is the objective of produce national cars? copy and paste? and I was wondering is it proud of copy and paste? And now national cars still like shit and not even produce their own original vehicles or achieve the international standard, why you all still want to buy it? Just stop support them. They just make high profit and throw some shit expensive milo tin cabin for us to drive.Time is running and world is changing. If you guys still not make revolution, then be prepare to suffer in future!

Common dude! think positively! i dont have any problem with my third Myvi. i got 3 conti parked under my garage together with P1 & P2 machines. What revolution do you need? i saw lots of improvement in Lagi Best Myvi. every automobile company will keep copy and paste each other design, no biggie! its more funny for P1 bought Lotus but still didnt improve much. same goes to P2. no use for use bullshitting here and bla bla there, no people will listen. its people choices to choose and buy their own car. you may able to buy a bimmer, but maybe to other person, a P1 or P2 car will be more than enough for him. be thanks full buddy! after all, police black maria or nissan vannete gonna be ur last ride to mortuary.

  • Sat in the new myvi yesterday… i am glad that they improved everything (i think)… but still i think Persona elegance interior has got much quality and the door feels more solid compared tot his new myvi… but not bad though both cars has got it’s good and bad… myvi more for city driving where as persona more for high speed and performance + comfort kinda driving…

  • Sorry but this new myvi interior sucks big time!! Door panels vibrate when you close the door like thin wood. And it sounds so milo tin when you slam the door.. And they are so many uneven lines between the passenger airbag and the drawer!! I would say Persona is still a better choice when it comes to quality, ride and comfort..

An impressive share! I’ve just forwarded this onto a colleague who has been doing a little research on this. And he in fact bought me dinner due to the fact that I found it for him… lol. So let me reword this…. Thanks for the meal!! But yeah, thanks for spending time to discuss this topic here on your internet site.

  • I’m not a Proton nor Perodua fangirl but I’ll definitely say no to Perodua.. Owning their cars from kelisa, to myvi to viva to this new nyvi, all sucks big time.. 3 year old car sounds like a 10 year old car.. My lagi best my foot! It has been giving me cabin noises since first year till now and I’m sick and tired of locating the source of noise and SC can’t even fix it for me!! Thanks for the offer Perodua but not thanks! Can’t wait to earn more money to get a Honda Jazz.. No more msian made!

  • TO technical department of perodua myvi.

the rear bumper design has flaws
Inner side of the bumper contains a huge cavity which could trap air and increase drag force
this increase fuel efficiency and reduces the stability of the car.
Please make some change for that design.
