Say goodbye to the Honda S2000 with the white Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition

Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition

The Honda S2000 first made its debut in 1999 and after nearly 10 years, it’s finally going to be laid to rest. Honda has announced that production of the S2000 for all regions will halt at the end of June this year. There should be approximately 110,000 S2000s on the road around the world, if most of them aren’t totaled yet. Of that figure, 20,000 units were sold in Japan and another near-20,000 in Europe.

Honda is of course having a final go at the S2000 with this new Honda S2000 Ultimate Edition, which will be unveiled at the Geneva motorshow in March and sold until June 2009. The engine is still the 240 PS 2.0 litre 9,000rpm high revving engine powering the car’s two rear wheels. It is painted with the Grand Prix White colour which is supposed to evoke memories of Honda’s 1964 F1 car. This will be matched with a red leather interior.

This would also mean the high-revving FR Honda engine will now be in limited supply, making it harder to do modifications such as this.

Look after the jump for more shots of the S2000.

hopefully the new NSX will be the FR car, Honda was losing one type of great sporty FR car in the history. Please Honda, create a miracle with the new NSX.

i disagree with you, making the next NSX a FR would be an even bigger loss than discontinuing the production of the S2000.

IMO the next NSX shud be a MR, as it was immortalize as a legend in that layout. how can THE Japanese Ferrari be a FR?!?

Guys, sorry to upset you all but Honda announced there will not be a new NSX back in December as part of the same cost cutting exercise that made them pull out of F1 – check the link:

unbelievable, this car still looks great and modern even after 10 years of its debut….

good designs like Supra, NSX and RX-7 will stay forever…..

really hope Honda will change their minds and continue with the NSX project..

Sad to see the end of such a great roadster. I had heaps of fun in it. The only thing i don’t like about the S2000 was the heat coming up from the gearbox over long runs. Other than that it’s still one of my favourites.

It’s also sad to see the end of Honda’s racing involvements and sports developments. We’ve already lost the Prelude, NSX and now the S2000. Let’s hope that the Integra and Type-R models will not be slashed off Honda’s hierarchy.

If I have the money to buy a S2000 right now, Id wait for the new version to come out. Slapping a body kit and few tweakings here and there does not make a 10 year old car newer

i’m pretty sure there will be no replacement for s2000 and nsx for now. to build platforms that are really going to be sold only in limited numbers will be a loss making venture in these times.

performance models like the civic typeR will definitely continue, as they use existing platforms from bread and butter models.

Honda shelved the NSX. I am worried they will do the same for the S2000. BTW, why are they not selling the S2000 here? I am sure there will be buyers especially there are people bold enough to buy the citroen cc.

it is sad that the nsx and s2000 are coming to the end. i hope that they rejuvenate the 2 models. in fact, the s2000 concept comes from s600 & s800 roadsters which were very successful for honda and it will be a shame if the ‘s’ series just ends here and now. as for the nsx, it was one of the first japanese sports cars that showed the europeans that a super car can be fun as well as reliable and with low cost of ownership.

in the front cover of ‘car’ magazine uk in 88′ (i think), the headline read, ‘japan shows europe how to build supercars’ and on the cover were the then new 300zx (z32), the mx-5 and the nsx.

that was the effect of those 3 ground breaking cars and i hope that there will be a successor to the nsx and s2000.

i also hope that honda doesn’t change the formula of those cars. the s2000 should be a front engine rear drive roadster in the same vein as the z4 and the slk. the nsx must be a mid engined supercar that continues what it started. it was saddening that honda wanted to turn the nsx into a front engine rear drive coupe :( now that plans are shelved (for now) i hope that the formula for these 2 cars remain.

    water;

by looking at the current market sentiment (toyota start losing money after 70 years, honda cutting down expenses and f1, mitsubishi also neither here or there), you can say so. especially when nissan is coming up with the power-up version of it’s GTR … according to autocar, the price is 2X the current price. sigh!

  • S2K is a legend, it's simple NA car. But the NSX is not so easy to be take care and modifier. hope that Honda will come out with a new high cam sporty engine, but not in NSX.

I am happy to say that the Honda S2000 didnt go out of production, Cause Mexico will not come up with this model. But I am glad to say that an S2000 has also traveled out its continent towards other sites in the world and that people digg this ride every were you go they cant stop stearing at it. So far I have purchased 2 AP2 2006 models and they both have traveled to mexico in ways of race events and for cars shows Honda has been there……………..F22C1S2K
