The Race Touareg might have a cousin soon. Seems Dakar isn’t the only rallying Volkswagen will be up to from now, if the report is true. According to the folks at Autocar, VW is expected to confirm a full assault on the World Rally Championship before the end of this month. This intimation is based on info from the mag’s well-placed sources.
The company, it is said, is expected to make an announcement on this upcoming programme at an event that celebrates its success in the Dakar rally raid, later this month.
Having been linked to the WRC since the series confirmed its new 1600cc-based regulations, the initial speculation was that the Veedub rally car offering would be based on the Scirocco, but now it looks likely to be based on the Polo, according to the report.
The decision to commit into the WRC came after an intense internal discussions within the VW group, and it seems that boys at Skoda aren’t too chuffed about this upcoming decision – their WRC ambitions have been ‘relegated’ to the IRC.
