Proton AMP – new spare parts line for the budget conscious

Proton AMP – new spare parts line for the budget consciousProton has introduced a second, alternative spare parts brand called AMP, aimed at providing a more cost-effective solution for Proton owners in terms of replacement components for their rides. The AMP (After Market Parts) range consists of quality car components and accessories, endorsed by Proton, all at highly affordable prices.

With AMP, the company is looking to provide a viable alternative for customers who are looking at a lower cost of ownership without resorting to using cheap and unsafe imitation parts in their Protons after the warranty period expires.

The company is aware that many of its customers, in a bid to save on post-warranty maintenance on their Proton cars, have often ended up purchasing low quality counterfeit parts that do not conform to OEM standards and levels of safety, which is not only detrimental but dangerous, according to Mohamad Shukor Ibrahim, Proton Edar’s CEO.

“The Proton AMP range will address these concerns by providing Proton car owners high quality parts that are not only affordable, but more importantly endorsed and guaranteed by Proton,” he said.

Proton AMP – new spare parts line for the budget conscious

“We believe our customers will soon realise that quality does not have to be a pain on the wallet and we certainly hope that this will be reflected in their acceptance of the Proton AMP. Their support will not only be beneficial to their Proton cars but will also contribute towards curbing the sales of risky and low quality imitation or used components,” he added.

Each AMP product comes with a 3-month or 5,000 km (whichever comes first) product warranty from Proton, excluding the wear and tear of such parts. Unfortunately, there’s no info on how much cheaper the AMP stuff is compared to the standard parts range, nor is there an accompanying list of available components, so can’t tell you what’s what – you can of course find out more at all Proton authorised service centres and parts stockists, which carry the AMP range. Alternatively, you can also call Proton i.care at 1300 880 888 for more info.

That’s a good effort but how less better are these compared to ori non-budget Proton parts? Is it still worth it if they cost half the price but also last half as long as the non-budget parts?

How high is this ‘high quality’? As high as the regular non-budget Proton parts? If so, why bother to keep the non-budget lineup? It’s not economically feasible to keep producing those if the budget parts are just as good. There’s no indication from the article they’re doing that.

        A little bit of brain-ing won’t hurt.

  • As a Proton owner myself, I’m a bit concerned and I don’t quite get what this means, does this means, Proton has endorsed this line up (which is cheaper) other than the “100% original Proton” products, then why Proton’s original products cannot be this cheap? If the answer is “Original products has more quality”, then did Proton actually endorsed a lower quality product? why?

gain the market share from immitation parts by selling amp brand part at cheaper price similary to immitation brand than proton brand

If the originals parts were not overpriced and inferior qualities there wont be a need for the AMP.

Guess Proton strategy is to built shitty cars and as long as the public drives it ,they still will have to spend money to keep the cars on the road.

Instead of making the cars of better quality and problem-free,they came up with the ideas of cheaper spare parts replacement. I wouldnt be surprised its made by the very OEM suppliers who supplied the shitty parts in the first place.

    VERY CLEVER PROTON!!! ;-)

Agreed. Another form of monopoly. Proton has manage to convince the government to ban import of spare parts which is making their shitty vendors look bad because other people are able to sell the parts CHEAPER.

IF Proton CEO if smart he should use all the AMP parts in the manufacturing process thus making the cars EVEN CHEAPER.

Just like a person in denial of suffering from bad body odour ,Proton thinks by giving us option to ONLY buy from their approve suppliers they shitty quality car problem is SOLVED.

Another case of Proton arrogance telling us that Proton dont have any quality problems, its just us who is the problem for having high EXPECTATION.

Why outsource when the bulk of profits can
be reaped from after sales and parts replacement.
This is a huge market and yet P1 is losing out
    to “alternative” OEM products.
Well looks like P1 ‘s purchasing, parts and distribution department
is not sourcing from the right vendors. If product cost and
quality does not improve then shift to another vendor or
source it elsewhere even overseas if it warrants.
If AMP offers 3mth/5K warranty then what kinda warranty
    does P1 Original Parts offer… 6month/10K?
At the way its packaged, looks like AMP will
be taking the bulk of its sales and goodbye P1 original. !! ;)

A good brand usually has well supported aftermarket performance parts.

Adding more local content to Proton models is not a good way to sell cars! Adding more reliable and quality local content to Proton models will raise confidence of buying locally made cars.

Now, there is a chance for AMP to become stock if there is good demand based from feedback. This way Proton will keep improving the quality of its parts.

Walk the talk and try exporting Proton Inspira overseas.. the specs already met or exceeded MMC standard.

  • Proton openly admit that their cars are not even affordable to the rakyat which mean that they have failed in the national mission.

They are also very self-served that even they know that the rakyat are driving dangerous cars but yet won’t close proton down or merge with other quality manufacturer.

So now they provide cheaper lousy parts which is only aimed to make more profit and save no life since there are many proton owners who are using re-conditioned car tyres. Since Proton car is so expensive and low qaulity that they have to bear the frequent repair costs in the end they cant even afford to buy new tyres.
