BMW X5 Performance Edition introduced – RM589k

BMW X5 02

BMW Malaysia has announced the arrival of a new version of its E70 BMW X5 – the Performance Edition, as it’s called, adds dress-up items as well as a power increase to the 5+2-seater SUV. The revised X5 variant arrives in the showrooms on March 30 2013.

Heading things is a BMW M Aerodynamics package, with new front and rear bumpers as well as 20-inch M double-spoke alloys on the kit list. Also on, BMW Individual roof rails, with different trim available to match the two external colours available for the car – high-gloss shadow line on Alpine White and aluminium satinated on Carbon Black.

Inside, X5 Performance Edition gets a M Sport leather steering wheel with gearshift paddes and BMW Individual Piano Black interior trim, and the equipment/features list contains the usual assortment of stuff – Active Steering, Head-up Display, rear-view camera with Top View display and a BMW Navigation System Professional system, among others.

Elsewhere, the vehicle gets the upgraded N55B30 as seen in the F12 640i – the BMW TwinPower Turbo inline six cylinder has an output of 315 hp at 5,800 rpm and 450 Nm at 1,300-4,500 rpm, an increase of 13 hp and 50 Nm from before. Performance figures include a 0 to 100 km/h time of 6.6 seconds, an improvement of 0.2 seconds compared to the BMW X5 xDrive35i.

The retail price for the new BMW X5 Performance Edition is RM588,800, on-the-road, without insurance, complete with the three-year or 60,000 km BMW Service Inclusive + Repair programme.

Reasonable price, so don’t go for recond ya. Having said that, X6 is still a better buy.

      Sarcastic?
Under the kerajaan PR, the reasonable price I guess should be around RM200k to RM250k. RM150k is just not possible.
The new kerajaan can always impose fee for vehicle ownership, which I suggest to be RM100(upto RM200 per cc is still acceptable for me) for every cc above 2500, ie RM23k plus RM100k for a vehicle of 3500cc (I am willing to pay some form of ‘tax’, and I don’t want vehicles to be totally free from whatever taxes/fees).
For vehicle below 1500cc, just a flat rate of RM3K per vehicle; 1500cc-2500 RM20 per cc.
Vehicle tax is only 10% import tax + 10% sales tax. No excise duty. This will open up the market for healthier competition.

In the US, but this X5 is priced at US$47,500 .The same X5 is sold in Malaysia for RM$588,000.

Lets see how much greedy BMW Malaysia makes. US$47,500 x 3 = $142,000. Our excise duty and tax max out at 130%. So that is RM184,600. So, RM184,600 + 142,000 = RM326,600. Clean profit is RM588,000 – RM326,600 = RM262,000 Untung Bersih. No where in the world a dealership can earn that kind of margins per car in the whole wide world except in Malaysia. Ask BMW staff, they blame the government taxes. But as the above indicates, you can see better who really reaps the big profit. They infact earn more because BMW Germany gives the principals in each country even cheaper. So, BMW Malaysia might even be getting this car for Us$35,000

@ Sam Loo, your numbers aren’t quite accurate, an X5 is sport trim in the USA in similar spec is going to be around US60k, that brings the prices excluding shipping with tax to around 414k, add 10k for shipping, god only knows how much for an AP and their profit margin isn’t quite as huge as you might think – still very healthy for them I am sure!

  • Towards the end of the self-life as the 3rd gen X5 should be unveiled sometime next year. It has always been the case for any model approaching her last home turn. They have to give a bit more goodies to maintain the sales momentum.

3 year or 60,000 km warranty? BMW must be of their mind. Better opt for VW.
