Ford Fiesta facelift – Malaysian debut in August?

fiesta movement 01

Is the facelifted Ford Fiesta due to premiere in Malaysia sometime in August? The indicators provided by SDAC’s recently launched Fiesta Movement campaign say it well might.

The website is looking for people to be the face for the new Fiesta, with the chance to drive the car for a week. The fact that it’s all timed around the Linkin Park Living Things World Tour concert happening on Aug 19, along with the premise to “party like a rockstar at our launch” surely suggests that’s when the car will make its official debut here.

fiesta movement 02

We already know that there are two engine variants for the car, a 109 PS and 140 Nm 1.5 litre Ti-VCT as well as a much-anticipated 120 PS and 170 Nm 1.0 litre EcoBoost three-cylinder turbo version, but no indicators as yet as to whether both will mark the facelift’s debut here. What’s pretty certain are that the existing 1.6 and 1.4 litre variants will be replaced by the two new displacement configurations.

Not much longer to wait then, and since we’re on the subject, apparently there are four VIP tickets (with meet & greet passes) to the Linkin Park concert at the Bukit Jalil Stadium up for grabs. And there’s that chance to drive the new Fiesta for a week.

Interest piqued? Check out how you can get into the groove here. You’ll spot a familiar face in there, and no, we’re not talking about Fay Hokulani. :)

Though, will the 1.0 Ecoboost come with PowerShift or a normal auto? Cause I see the UK ones, even on the top of the line TitaniumX, its only a 5 speed manual on the Ecoboost…

Normally at least for some versions you can add the auto gearbox as an option. Reason being that a) not everyone likes to drive auto and b) it costs a lot.

  • Don’t be like Peugeot. Much hoo haa over the 208 but only equip with a dated 4 speed tranny. Make sure you have the 1.0 ecoboost + dual-clutch powershift. Then the Fiesta is tasty.

Definitely support, if they didn’t increase the price. Cheapest German Engineered car available here!

      • You mean Belgium engineered car? Just because they have a German R&D department, does not make them a German engineered car! This car is plastic, just like all Ford’s. No wonder Ford not selling well here. Ford’s global one car strategy is definitely failing, thats why they are losing even to GM now in global sales.

  • “Ford has also stated the 1.0-litre motor is good enough to be a substitute for a 1.6-litre four, but as it cannot currently be tied to an automatic gearbox, Ford has kept a 1.6-litre on the stocks to cover that base” (http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/ford/fiesta/design)

Straight forward reason is that Ford wants to maximise the fuel economy and less CO2 emission on EcoBoost engines, which automatic transmission is unable to cope with (even so with the 6-speed Powershift dual clutch).

Are you sure? Those DSG boxes are manual gearboxes with 2 clutches and a robot. The losses due to a torque converter shouldn’t be there anymore…

The ultimate differentiation lies on human’s experience and computer intelligence to select the gears while driving, which normally human’s experience comes up better in achieving fuel economy (exclude those rough drivers).

Any Focus owners have problesm with their under carraige typically dull knocking sound coming from steering rack over rough surface audible at low speed?

Like or Dislike: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0
          • Wrong! Explain why the best of racing drivers use shift indicator like in those Fiesta UK manual? The truth is to accurately select a gear you need to know the current tyre road speed, torque demand and current torque. So, basically human shifting is primarily guesswork based on previous experience. Computer can be programmed to do this accurately. Not to mention the advantages of dual-clutch gearbox over single clutch gearbox. But I don’t think we going to get the 1.0 ecoboost here.

      • According to this Australian article, there will be a Powershift transmission for the 1.0 EcoBoost. http://www.nextcar.com.au/n.ford.fiesta.130702.html

Australia also sources their Fiestas from Thailand (except for the ST)

Until SDAC improves spare parts availability and bring down their prices from luxury European car level the brand is going nowhere. How many Ford cars do you see on our roads? Maybe you can spot a Fiesta now and then but you’ll be lucky to catch a Focus. As for Fiesta owners good luck to you once your warranty is over. You’ll need it.

I’m counting 2 or 3 Focus at my condo, and I haven’t walked through all car parks.

As for spare parts, that situation should improve when there are more cars on the road.

Ford cars are problematic cars. Only people who buy them are dumb people. Of course it sells in Malaysia because we have a lot of the above category. It does not sell well in Singapore, HK, Japan, Korea, China and other countries with smart people!

Just their original parts cost higher than outside workshop. BTW, both of my car aged 10.

Is this new models using the same gearboox ( auto ) as the previous 2012 models? If yes, be alert…those auto transmissions are TROUBLE ! There is an issue ith the automatic dual cluth so be alert. Better to have another choice rather than this !
