BMW i8 – first leaked photos make their way to the net

BMW released a sexy teaser video of the upcoming BMW i8 sports car on their BMW i YouTube channel a few days ago, which we featured. The 20 second mark is particularly goosebump-inducing as you see the i8 zoom past in the shadows with nary a sound, thanks to its ability to run on electric mode.

But the faucets are leaky again and two official images of the BMW i8 have managed to find their way onto the internet. One is a side view with the scissor doors open and the other provides a very clear view of the interior, which features a full LCD display in place of the instrument cluster alongside a traditional iDrive display with a BMW i specific ‘theme’.

The i8 uses a 1.5 litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine to run the rear wheels while strong electric motors feed power to the fronts. Combined output is 357 hp and 570 Nm, and it gets to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds. You can read the full technical details here.

This thing should be a blast to drive and we can’t wait to try it!

  • Wow. This looks really good actually. Could have been a 8 series replacement in my opinion. The interior is just spot on. Beautifully crafted.

    • Good car but BMW Malaysia will give this car with a mere 2 years warranty when everyone else is giving 5 years. I think BMW Malaysia got no confidence in their own products to give a longer warranty.

exterior is awesome but the interior is so normal like the current 3-series. take a look at Mercedes S-Class coupe’s interior…absolutely revolution…

As far as my opinion is, minus the speedo portion, the dashboard doesn’t look like it’s belonged to a sport car, but would rather be more suitable for an MPV. Calling it driver’s cockpit? No way.
