2015 Volkswagen Caddy – new looks, Euro 6 engines

A new year, a new Volkswagen Caddy – the Typ 2K, still based on the Mk5 Golf, has been given a thorough refresh inside and out to bring Wolfsburg’s little tallboy van up to date with the rest of the range.

First up, the aesthetics – new on the 2015 model are a Golf Sportsvan-inspired front end, more angular indicators, smaller door mirrors on certain models, three-dimensional tail lights, a reshaped tailgate and a reprofiled rear bumper with integrated reflectors.

The interior has also been completely revamped. Gone are the previous round air vents – replaced by sober rectangular units – and a Mk7 Golf‘s flat-bottomed steering wheel also finds its place here. Also from the Mk7 Golf is VW’s MIB family of infotainment systems, including Composition Colour, Composition Media and navigation-equipped Discover Media items.

Engine-wise, there are four TDI diesels with outputs ranging from 75 hp to 150 hp, a gas-powered 1.4 litre TGI mill, as well as 84 hp 1.2 litre four-cylinder, 102 hp 1.0 litre three-cylinder and 125 hp 1.4 litre four-cylinder TSI petrols. They all meet the new Euro 6 regulations and feature lower emissions and fuel consumption, with the BlueMotion model sipping under 4.0 litres of fuel per 100 km.

The European Commission has required all commercial vehicles to be equipped with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) as standard since 2013, so all 2015 Caddy models come with a Front Assist monitoring system, including City Emergency Braking that works at speeds under 30 km/h. Passenger versions also come with side and curtain airbags, while Light Assist auto high beam, Driver Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), a reversing camera and Park Assist are all available as optional extras.

Germans will be able to buy the new Volkswagen Caddy starting in June (order books open in March), with other markets receiving it soon afterwards. Adjusted for increased equipment, prices start lower than before – €14,785 (RM59,700) nett for the panel van and €15,330 (RM61,900) nett for the passenger model, both with the entry level 1.2 TSI petrol engine.

I don’t have a business that will need a car like this, but for some odd reason I want one. Especially the window van variant. Been in the old one before abroad (used as taxis), brilliant loadspace and quite comfy.

    • Because u have family with kids?

this type of vehicle is perfect for family with 2kids. I’ve been toying with idea of getting a used egg shaped picasso for quite sometime already. If only new berlingo is available here.

It’s like the Kangoo. Great for families. And it does look good. I mean, same category as the Kangoo and Freed, and it does look better IMHO.

The latest Kangoo isn’t too bad, but especially the interior of this Caddy is very nice.

Cars like this are awesome because entry is so easy. You have a high ceiling, but the seats are not mounted so high. So you can just sit inside, without having to climb (SUV) or to bend down (sedan, hatchback). Especially great for the elderly. Who will also appreciate the sliding doors (big opening no matter how close you are to the next car). There is also plenty of space for trolleys, wheel chairs etc. I once had 5 adults, some luggage and a massage chair in my Kangoo. No problem. a X-Trail can only manage 2 people and that massage chair, and it is a much bigger car. It was hard to load the chair into the car too.

These things are pretty much perfect family cars.

          Nah no kids

But I just love the practicality it offers, to load stuff about.

I think it is a bit early to tell. So far it seems there are fewer complaints? But who knows.

Thankfully these cars are also available with manual gearboxes.

I’ve had the Jetta and now the Polo TSi and Sharan. My family also owns the Beetle v2 and Scirocco. Honestly, all have had no problems with DSG. Only problem I had was the speed sensor, which location made it susceptible to dirty local roads, but VW has updated the sensor for cars here so issue solved. VW is a bargain for what they are. Priced cheaper than the Japs, drives like the Euro. Not quite a BMW or Merc, but that’s Audi territory.

I saw a statement from VW last time, it was about the DSG issue has been resolved. After that, those complaints had been lesser already. Recently, they offered up to RM9.9k rebates on selected VW models which is a worthy offer. IMO, you should test drive the car first rather than listen to the facebook comments.

Well.. Every car makers have their own issue, even BMW or Mercedes also have issues. If a car manufacturer has no issue, they can’t success in the future as they never met any troubles before and hence, they didn’t have any experience or knowledge of its industry. People should fall at least once only can become better.
BTW, There is an article which was posted by Paultan and it claimed that the DSG issue has been resolved. No worries.

This is where Proton must have gotten their “Inspira”tion for the Preve. :P It does look quite classy for a panel van.
