Reader Austin Camoens (cheers, mate!) has sent in this pic of what appears to be the new 2015 Mitsubishi Triton on the LDP. Camouflaged and de-badged it may be, but there’s no mistaking the distinctive sweep-up shoulder line and chunky rear bumper with black side ‘claws’. Are we one step closer to a local launch?
Unveiled in Thailand last November, the 2015 Mitsubishi Triton boasts all-new looks, revised suspension, more insulation and damping, plus a new 2.4 litre MIVEC VGT turbodiesel engine. With a 15.5 compression ratio, the motor offers 182 PS and 430 Nm of torque, while promising 20% better economy.
Thai buyers can choose between a 128 PS/194 Nm 2.4 litre petrol (five-speed manual) or the new 2.4 litre diesel (six-speed manual/five-speed auto), in Double Cab Plus and Double Cab 4×4 forms.
Closer to home, the new truck appeared on oto.my some time ago, indicating a RM92k starting price and a 2.5 litre diesel engine. If this is to be believed, we could be missing out on the new engine, plumping instead for an improved version of the existing 178 PS/400 Nm 2.5 litre VGT unit – but do surprise us, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia!
With the new Nissan NP300 Navara having already been sighted in Malaysia and the 2015 Ford Ranger facelift having just world-debuted in Bangkok, exciting times are certainly ahead for pick-up truck lovers!

What’s with the camo? We all know it is a Triton lar.
Disappointing China look, I still adore the funky concept car look of the first Triton.
I am one of them “TRUCK LOVERS”…….. can’t wait really can’t wait. But Jonathan, this new engines I assume won’t intro anytime soon as our “useless” diesel grade still in stone age. Maybe when introduce EURO 5 then YES!!! Hope BHP be bold & intro in Klang Valley. BHP! BHP! BHP! BHP!
Lame Design….
Sorry Mitsubishi, The new Navara n Facelifted Ford ranger is gonna smoke you Up…
Eh JOhnathan, I’m pretty sure the exiting 178 PS/400 Nm 2.5 liter VGT unit is 350nm as listed on the mitsubishi website for the current triton vgt and not 400nm.. or maybe did they did a retune?
The 2.5 VGT produces 400 Nm when mated to a manual gearbox. It’s detuned to 350 Nm when mated to the Invecs 2 autobox. Does this mean MMM will finally bring in the full fat manual equipped VGT? Currently, manual gearbox is only available with the non-VGT 2.5 (136ps/314Nm) engine.
Sorry man my mistake. Dint know it was tuned differently for other markets.
No problem, dude. What is the use of this forum if not to share informations, right?
Haha yeah man. Thanks for correcting me. :)
The rear seats and room look comfortable for HOBBITS….
Too much chrome on the front end making it looking a bit China-ish. Urgh!
