Suzuki Swift GLX Facelift 1

Yesterday, the order books were opened for the facelifted Suzuki Swift; now, provisional specifications and indicative pricing have been released for the updated B-segment hatch.

With the advent of the refresh, there will now be a new entry-level variant available, called the GA. This pretty much takes over from the current GL, inheriting most of its bargain basement kit such as 15-inch steel wheels with plastic covers. One change is that the spare wheel has been swapped out for a tyre repair kit.

Step up to the GL and you’ll receive items previously reserved for the top GLX, such as the old 16-inch multi-spoke alloys and a higher-spec audio head unit, but keeps manual air-con and lacks the old car’s fog lights, wing mirror indicators, keyless entry and push-button start. Meanwhile, the GLX now gets new bumper-mounted LED daytime running lights, neat five-split-spoke wheels and a touchscreen navigation system.

With a new base model comes a lower entry price point, estimated at around RM59,000 for the GA, OTR without insurance. Contrary to what was previously reported, prices for the other two variants is expected stay about the same as before, at around RM65,000 for the GL and around RM73,000 for the GLX.

Under the bonnet, the 1.4 litre VVT four-cylinder petrol engine has been retained, pushing out 95 PS at 6,000 rpm and 130 Nm at 4,000 rpm through a four-speed automatic transmission. Safety-wise, ABS with EBD and brake assist has been retained, but dual airbags appear to have been made standard throughout the range (the outgoing GL only has a driver’s airbag).

Changes are mild on the facelifted Swift, amounting only to a reprofiled front bumper, LED centre brake light and new seat fabric pattern. A new Lagoon Turquoise hue joins the colour palette that also includes Supreme Red, Olive Gray, Bayside Blue (only choice for the GA for the time being) and Superior White.
