Rendering whiz, Theophilus Chin, has once again proven himself by providing us his take on the alleged 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT4. According to reports, the supposed four-door sedan is aimed at the likes of the next-gen Porsche Panamera, BMW M6 Gran Coupe and Audi RS 7 when it hits the market in the future.

Contrary to its namesake, the Mercedes-AMG GT4 will not be a strict derivative of the Mercedes-AMG GT sports car. According to Automobile, the new model (codenamed X290) will be included into an AMG exclusive range that is set to feature multiple variants instead of a single, specialised model.

So while the X290 range will spawn several new models, one can expect the car to carry over some of the AMG GT’s trademark styling cues. The list is expected to include the GT’s front grille with vertical chrome bars, its squat stance and slim greenhouse. Naturally, the wheelbase is expected to be elongated by quite a fair bit to increase accessibility to the rear while a larger boot space will be present.

Under the skin, the GT4 could share its basic architecture with the CLS-Class – the similarities might stop there, however. While the CLS range is expected to be powered mainly by four-cylinder engines, the GT4 could very well be equipped with a range of turbo’ed petrol engines (to go against the Audi S7, perhaps?) and, of course, a hi-po V8 variant – the latter should be available in both regular and ‘S’ states of tune.

Unfortunately, specifics on the car remain murky as we’re still in the early stages of its gestation. However, reports are already indicating that the new GT4 models will be positioned between the CLS-Class and Mercedes-AMG GT flagship. The ‘S’ variant of the latter was launched in Malaysia in June and is priced from RM1,150,000, inclusive of on-the-road costs sans insurance.
