Honda Malaysia takes No. 1 spot in the non-national segment for 2015 – record 94,902 units sold

Honda HR-V Drive Langkawi 42

Honda Malaysia has announced its sales figures for 2015 – with 94,902 units sold last year, the company has emerged as the number one carmaker in the non-national segment for the first time in its history, pipping UMW Toyota (which recorded 93,760 units) to the top spot.

The company said that last year’s figures represented a 22% increase over that registered in 2014, when it sold 77,485 units. Position-wise, the brand was ranked third overall, behind national carmakers Perodua and Proton.

In terms of specifics, the City was Honda Malaysia’s best-selling model, contributing to 40% of the overall sales volume. This was followed by the HR-V – which debuted in February last year, and received a record-breaking 7,000 orders in the first month alone – with 21% and Jazz, with 18%. The company added that the City, Jazz and CR-V maintained their lead in their respective segments last year.

Honda Malaysia MD and CEO Yoichiro Ueno said that despite some reservations, 2015 turned out to be an outstanding and memorable year for the company. “We started off the year with a challenging sales target of 85,000 units. We ended the year surpassing our target by 12% despite the tough and highly competitive market situation in 2015. In the month of December, Honda Malaysia also recorded the highest monthly sales in history, with 10,741 units sold,” he said via a statement.

Looks like there were 94902 foolish Malaysians which feel for the Honda gimmick. Why buy inferior quality Honda with poor QC, lousy specs, uncomfortable seats, fugly design, and a worthless brand to boot. Smart people would choose Toyota for it has the best brand image, RV, comfortable interiors, classy designs which exudes luxury at every inch and should you want a sportier look the Sportivo bodykit is the best compared to tacky Mugen/Modulo and ugly Impul/Nismo.

Toyota has the best after sales service and any Toyota will run forever under their proper care.

I am smart by choosing Toyota.

    Be like me.

Put Lexus a side, Toyota interior is just dull and uninspiring. New Altis got ok exterior but really dull interior. Camry exterior so-so, Interior lose to Honda Accord. Besides of Altis, Toyota cars are not stylist.

Great job, excellent marketing, pricing, and quality. That’s how you achieve sales. Taking out Toyota’s commercial sales, Honda outsold Toyota by 30,000 in passenger vehicles. Great going, Honda!

Plotong, take note. Oops, nevermind, too late. Go bankrupt and save Malaysia from your junk.

Yes, car industry revenue is always high, profit margins are low, 3-5%; >10% for luxury cars.

Hang on a minute, shouldn’t Lexus be included into Toyota’s total tally? After all, they are fully owned by Toyota and is a division of UMW Toyota Motor which markets Toyotas in Malaysia. Toyota+Lexus = 93,760 + 2,101 = 95,861.

Simply because Lexus is not equal to Toyota and vise versa.

Only those sorhai tai lan ngong who does not own and driven a Lexus will say so.

Same case for VW and Audi are separated.

With more sales comes with more responsibilities to serve the customers well in terms of after sales service. I hope Honda and the dealers improve further to serve the broader customer base and cut the long queue or waiting time when we send our cars for service/repair.
