Aside from introducing the new M Performance models for the BMW 1 Series and 2 Series, BMW also announced updates to both models armed with the company’s new B48 2.0 litre TwinPower turbocharged four-cylinder engines for the 2017 model year. The engine will be paired to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.
On the BMW 1 Series, the 120i now has an extra 7 hp at its disposal, with the mill now producing 184 hp. The 0-100 km/h time on both the three- and five-door version of the 120i is 7.1 seconds, regardless of transmission choice. Fuel consumption is rated at between 6.1 and 5.7 litres per 100 km (manual) and 5.9 and 5.5 litres per 100 km (automatic).
Moving up the 1er range, the 125i’s mill now outputs 224 hp, also 7 hp more than before. Mated to the auto box, the 125i three- and five-door will make the 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.1 seconds. Fuel consumption is also lower at 5.9 to 5.7 litres per 100 km.
Moving on to the 2 Series, the four-cylinder engine provides 184 hp (up 3 hp) on both the 220i Coupe and 220i Convertible, with the former hitting 100 km/h from a standstill in 7.1 seconds (7.2 seconds with the auto). The latter, meanwhile, does the same in 7.5 seconds (7.7 seconds with the auto). Fuel efficiency is between 5.5 to 6.5 litres per 100 km, depending on transmission choice.
Replacing the BMW 228i Coupe and Convertible in July 2016 will be the new 230i Coupe and Convertible. The sportiest iteration of the four-cylinder 2 Series sees a 7 hp hike in power from the outgoing variants, with 252 hp available. In terms of performance, the BMW 230i will make the century sprint in 5.8 seconds (5.6 seconds with the auto), while the Convertible does the same in 6.1 seconds (5.9 seconds with the auto).
Aside from the engine updates, BMW also revealed that its latest iDrive system (with optimised menu display), telephony with wireless charging and WLAN hotspot will also find their way to the BMW 1 Series and BMW 2 Series (Coupe and Convertible). A wider choice of leather seats will be offered too, including the leather trim Dakota in the colour black with blue contrast stitching.

Yup when??? Facelifted 1 series have it?
Some minor tweaks with the ECU for them perhaps
Nope, before facelift the engine displacement is 1997cc but the LCI is 1998cc.
I just read from another source. I thought the cars is updated with the new B48 units and not N20?
You’re right. Apologies for the oversight.
