The all-new Volvo XC90 R-Design

Mercedes-Benz isn’t the only premium marque on a streak. Volvo Cars has also reported double-digit sales growth for the first six months of 2016. Deliveries grew by 10.5% to 256,563 cars compared with the same period in 2015. The second-gen Volvo XC90 was the driver of growth.

The Swedish carmaker reported growth in all major sales regions in H1 2016. In Europe, sales rose by 10.3% to 138,851 cars thanks to strong performances in key markets such as Sweden, Germany, France and the UK. The XC60 was the best-selling Volvo in the Continent, just like in 2015.

Volvo’s resurgence in the US continued apace, as the company delivered close to 25% more cars over the six-month period.36,654 cars were sold in H1, led by the XC90.

China was Volvo’s largest single market in the period with 40,688 cars sold, an increase of 6.3% year-on-year. Growth was driven by growing demand for the XC90 as well as the Chengdu-made XC60 and S60L long-wheelbase saloon. Volvo reportedly plans to export S60Ls from China to the US.

In June, Volvo retail sales increased by 10.6% overall compared to the same month in 2015, to 51,431 units. As such, it was the 13th consecutive month of global sales growth for the company. With fantastic-looking new models such as the S90 sedan and V90 wagon duo, this trend is set to continue.
