The 2016 Volkswagen Jetta is set to make its launch debut in Malaysia, with three variants on offer – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. Order books for the updated model are now open, and full specifications are also out in the open.
Ahead of its launch however, local dealerships have started to preview the updated model in their showrooms. We paid a visit to the VW Glenmarie dealership, and sure enough, we sighted two variants – the Comfortline and Highline.
The Highline (silver car) is instantly identifiable thanks to bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights, 17-inch ‘Queensland’ alloys and keyless entry.
Meanwhile, the Comfortline gets reflector halogen headlamps and 16-inch ‘Mambo’ wheels, although the latter isn’t featured on this display model, curiously. Regardless of variant, all will receive a revised front grille, as well as new front and rear bumpers.
Though the cars remained locked, we already know that the Jetta’s cabin will benefit from a new steering wheel carried over from the Mk7 Golf. Depending on variant, there will either be fabric or leather upholstery, along with differing equipment. For a better insight as to what each receives, check out our Jetta specifications post, here.
The new Jetta is powered by a a new 1.4 litre turbocharged direct-injection TSI four-cylinder engine, which replaces the twincharged (supercharged and turbocharged) 1.4 litre TSI unit of the previous model. The new mill outputs 150PS and 250 Nm of torque, which is 10 PS less but 10 Nm more than the outgoing Jetta. It is paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission.
