At the launch of the B8 Passat last month, Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) revealed that the second-generation Volkswagen Tiguan SUV will be introduced here in 2017, and that the SUV will be CKD locally assembled. Didn’t take long for the new Tiguan to be spotted, and it stars in this video taken by reader “Tan Tai Chi” wearing Pahang trade plates. VW’s CKD cars roll out from Pekan, Pahang.
Not much can be read into the specs of the local Tiguan at this early stage, and we don’t have a very good look anyway. If it looks significantly larger than the tiny old Tig, it is, at 60 mm longer and 30 mm wider, with a 77 mm longer wheelbase. Boot space is up as well, by 145 litres to make 615 litres, or 1,655 litres with the rear seats folded.
Unveiled at IAA 2015, the new Tiguan – which sits on the group’s modular MQB platform that also underpins the Mk7 Golf – wears a very sharp suit and sits 33 mm lower than the original. It’s both more substantial and handsome than the Typ 5N, that’s for sure. Newer tech means that despite the size increase, it’s over 50 kg lighter than before.
VW’s usual range of turbocharged TSI and TDI engines are available, and the Euro 6 motors are up to 24% more fuel efficient than the previous batch. 4Motion all-wheel drive with a fifth-generation Haldex coupling is available. Along with the Haldex coupling that acts as a longitudinal lock, the electronic differential locks (EDS) integrated in the ESC act as transverse locks for all four wheels.
There’s a new 4Motion Active Control switch on the centre console. Four selectable profiles are available – two road (Onroad and Snow) and two off-road (Offroad and Offroad Individual). AWD Tiguans have 11 mm higher ground clearance (200 instead of 189 mm), and there’s a special off-road front end with an approach angle of 25.6 instead of 18.3 degrees.
The SUV is available in Trendline, Comfortline and Highline equipment lines, plus new R-Line packages. The latter, a sporty trim, is illustrated by the white car below.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
hopefully it will be priced right. and hoping for the VW Malaysia to continue improving on its after sales service.
Pity you did not see the accompanied tow truck. Any VW that goes for testing always has a tow truck following it.
The same with VW contests to win cars. You win one VW car, you also get one free tow truck.
This kunta guy complains about everything. Go start your own automobile company and build the car yourself. Nothing in the universe will satisfy him. Negative mentality at its most and not surpring, all of his comments have negative ratings.
everything looking good except the bottom black skirt nd rim looked cheap
looks like sticker to me….
Why is it that most spy shots photo is taken by a potato??
I agree there. Apparently those with S7E or IP7 ( or Pixel lol) never bumped into one of these cars-on-testing huh.
Don’t buy this dash cam.
