This is the new Black Fire Edition of the BMW X5 M and X6 M, which as you can clearly see, comes with plenty of unique visual elements featuring, well, the colour black.
On the outside, both high-performance SUVs get a Sapphire Black Metallic paintjob for that “VIP look” that many seem to like. To ensure coherence, other elements like the kidney grille and 21-inch M forged alloy wheels are also finished in black, capped off with carbon-fibre mirror covers.
As for the cabin, the Black Fire Edition SUVs are fitted with two-tone (red/black) fine-grain Merino leather upholstery, piano black interior trim and a dedicated logo facing the passenger side. That last bit is to make sure passengers know there is something special about the car they are in, and that it is different from a regular X5 M and X6 M.
Standard equipment includes fully-electric M seats and a M leather steering wheel. The latter can be swapped for an optional M Performance Alcantara steering wheel with light-blue leather accents at no extra charge.
In its release, BMW says, “black is powerful, black is exciting, and black is exclusive,” and the first two items are certainly is true with the Black Fire Edition. Both SUVs retain their 4.4 litre turbocharged V8 engine, which makes 567 hp and 750 Nm of torque.
The powerplant is paired with an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic and rear-biased xDrive four-wheel drive system. This allows for an exciting level performance, with the zero to 100 km/h sprint being accomplished in just 4.2 seconds for both SUVs. Top speed for both models are electronically limited to 250 km/h.
We’re not so certain about the model’s exclusivity, as BMW didn’t explicitly state if the Black Fire Edition will be available in limited numbers. Regardless, the new special edition models will be available starting in August this year.
