We’re rounding up our coverage of the 2018 Singapore Motor Show with the introduction of the Toyota C-HR in the republic. While parallel importers sell the 1.8 litre hybrid version there, the 1.2 litre turbo units are distributed by Borneo Motors, and come in two variants – Active and Luxury.
Both were on display at the show (with bodykits) during the model’s launch, and are powered by an 8NR-FTS 1.2 litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 114 hp from 5,200 to 5,600 rpm and 185 Nm of torque from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm.
The mill is paired with a CVT automatic with seven virtual speeds, and the car will hit a top speed of 185 km/h. It also has a claimed fuel consumption of 15.6 km per litre (combined) and C02 emission of 144 grams per km.
In terms of equipment, all variants get 17-inch alloy wheels shod with 215/60 profile tyres and a comprehensive safety kit. This includes seven airbags (including driver’s knee), VSC, hill start assist, ABS, brake assist, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert.
There’s even a Toyota Safety Sense P package with the following systems: Pre-collision System, Adaptive High-beam System, Lane Departure Alert and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.
Focusing on the Active variant, it is equipped with automatic halogen projector headlights with DRLs, front fog lamps, black fabric seats, 4.2-inch colour multi-info display, electrochromic rear view mirrors, dual-zone climate control with NanoE air purification system and Toyota Telematics System infotainment unit.
The Luxury gets fancier items, swapping out the halogens for auto-levelling LED units, along with sequential turn signals and smart entry system. Inside, there are leather seats, a navigation function for the infotainment system, front lumbar support and a smart start system.
In terms of pricing, the C-HR 1.2 Turbo Active retails for SG$119,988 (RM359,432), and there are eight colours to choose from – Radiant Green Metallic, Red Mica, Yellow, Blue Metallic, Metal Stream Metallic, White Pearl Crystal Shine, Black Mica and Dark Brown Mica Metallic.
Meanwhile, the C-HR 1.2 Turbo Luxury has two prices – SG$129,988 (RM389,346) and SG$130,988 (RM392,310) – the latter for customers who want a dual-tone paint scheme instead of a monotone one. There are nine colour combinations available for those who prefer a dual-tone look for their C-HR. All prices are inclusive of COE and a three-year/100,000 km warranty.
As a comparison, the C-HR destined for Malaysians will be powered by a 2ZR-FE 1.8 litre naturally-aspirated engine with 135 hp (137 PS) at 6,400 rpm and 170 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, sent to the front wheels via a CVT.
The kit list here is comprised of automatic projector halogen headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights, front and rear fog lights, 17-inch alloys, keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery and powered driver’s side lumbar adjustment (seat adjustment is still manual).
There’s also an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a 4.2-inch multi-info display and a DVD player with a seven-inch capacitive touchscreen, Bluetooth, USB and HDMI connectivity, a reverse camera and six speakers.
Safety-wise, there are seven airbags (including one for the driver’s knee), ABS with EBD and brake assist, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC) and Isofix rear child seat anchors, plus Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Fugly is an understatement. Skip.
why U look at mirror agains..
My god…so beautiful…stunning…speechless…it makes both hrv and brv look so cheapskate…pity hobda fanboys..must be crying like babies now…mercy
185Nm is not enough to push this 1400kg dino
Why you sounded like you hate Honda owners so much? Jealousy? You can save your pity to Toyota a year later when C-HR doesn’t do well in Msia. With its price range, nobody in their right mind would buy this. Don’t get me wrong. C-HR is a good car, but the pricing is one segment up. Only dudes who go for luxury and face would be driving this.
SG$119,988 compared with RM110k for HRV here. In terms of RM, can buy GLC alredi.
Adding COE in S’pore will be cost more.. Turbo 1.2 < 1.8cc in term of HP, Torque ?
Credits to UMW Toyota getting us bigger & more powah enjin, 1.8L. the CH-R
Road tax will be higher than for 1.2L
Someone who can buy 1.8L car definitely can pay for 1.8L roadtax. Roadtax for 1.8L is nothing near 4.8L car, totally in different league.
Someone said that CHR in Sg sold for SGD65k. Pfff..
Interior looks better than Aussie version. Aussie pipu kena shafted again.
So much cheaper in MY for such a cool CBU ride. Why still komplen? Unique Selling Point X 9999!!
Turbo or not, this is still a “small” SUV just like the HRV or CX3. If this is selling above RM120k in M’sia, better buy a C-segment car.
Why?! Bcos the C-segment car is more stable, have bigger boot & legrooms not to mention better/softer plastics.
You are clearly 12 yrs old for not being able to recognise the market Toyota is aiming at. :p
Wow Singapore is getting the full spec car….
When this CHR arrives Malaysia, surely kosong spec. Turbo oso UMW cabut out from the engine bay….
I’m confused of this car. Is the full spec of the CHR supposed to be lower in HP compared to the other variant? Because if I recall, lower displacement engine with turbo variant (Jetta, Elantra Sport) tend to be more powerful than their N/A counterparts, its the requirement of a full spec variant of the car…
Or it could just be that our version of the 1.8 CHR has a higher-tuned engine than the original. They really should have brought the hybrid version, What a wasted opportunity there..
