SPIED: Hyundai Elantra AD facelift, M’sia launch soon?

Look what we have here – a reader has sent us photos of the facelifted Hyundai Elantra AD being trialled on Malaysian roads, suggesting an imminent local launch. It looks like the gestation period for this heavily-restyled sedan is going to be shorter than expected (the pre-facelift AD did take nearly two years to get here, after all), as its appearance here comes less than a year after it was revealed to the world in August.

The exterior sees a comprehensive (and polarising) overhaul, consisting of the company’s latest Cascading Grille intersected by Doritos-like triangular headlights, with another pair of triangular fog lights sitting underneath. At the rear, the reshaped tail lights get funky lightning bolt-shaped graphics, while the number place recess has been moved to the bumper, forming part of the new diffuser-style insert.

SPIED: Hyundai Elantra AD facelift, M’sia launch soon?

While we don’t get a look on the inside, expect a few minor changes to be made, such as the climate controls and instrument faces. As for the mechanicals, the Elantra should soldier on with the same engines as before, starting with the Executive’s 2.0 litre Nu naturally-aspirated four-cylinder that makes 152 PS at 6,200 rpm and 192 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, paired to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The Elantra is currently priced at RM109,888 for the Executive and RM113,888 for the bodykit-equipped Dynamic, all on-the-road without insurance. What do you think of the new look?

In singapore, this car outsells the Altis.

Looks is one thing. But despite it, many people buy this Elantra facelift (called Avante there)

Malu malu. Hyundai today can sell so many cars worldwide, but our Proton need to rebadge China cars

Both car companies were same same last time.

Exactly. Back in 2000, the Proton Waja was a more superior car than its rival, Hyundai Elantra. But now….

It was superior because it is built on platform developed by Volvo unlike Elantra back then were built on Mitsubishi platform.

With the X70 built on Boyue platform with Volvo input, Proton will gain back the recognition it once had.

Such a good car. Amazing design that is so attractive. No wonder Hyundai can sell 8 million cars globally.

Hyundai just started 10 years before Proton did. Their first car rolled out in 1974. And today, they can sell 8 million cars!

well, some people only care about the features… the basic variant of this Avante has a lot of features including 6 airbags, leather seats, disc brakes all around and android auto.. its Kia sibling has only 2 airbags, rear drum brakes and i think fabric seats too..

With their open market, they could pick better choices. Likely the cheaper kimchi prices made the COE less burdensome for them.

I think looks like Sime Darby Auto Motors Company will be extremely busy of releasing newer cars like Hyundai and BMW between this month and next few months later. Anyway, at least both of BMW design and Hyundai design looks better than Nissan design.

What is the problem with Hyundai? No one interested to find out. The Elantra’s sales is at the bottom of the Indian Ocean. Yet Hyundai looks like no plan to market the Elantra. Oh, and now they have a plan. Facelift.
I tested the Elantra Sport 1.6L turbocharged, it is a very nice car to drive though.
Nice to know that Hyundai hasn’t give up Malaysia market yet.

I hope HDSM learnt from the previous pre-facelift Elantra sales failure.. They need to step up in the game of C-Segment like they did for previous gen Elantra MD, where they offer 1.6L and 1.8L at reasonable price, compare with the pre-facelift version, they sell the 2.0L and 1.6T at ridiculously expensive price..

And another thing, PLEASE BRING KONA ASAP!!

This facelifted Elantra is awful compared to the pre-facelift model that actually looks grown-up and handsome. This looks like it will appeal to the same people who likes putting big wings and plenty of LED lights on their crappy Honda Civic
