The BMW M2 CS has been spotted out and about running tests again, this time wearing a different camouflage scheme but otherwise appearing to be wearing a body that is production-ready. The most junior of the M range continues to sport a turbocharged inline-six cylinder engine which produces 410 hp and 550 Nm of torque in the M2 Competition; here in the CS, it’s expected to push up to 445 hp.
More than just an increase in engine outputs, our sources report that the M2 CS will also gain carbon-fibre bodywork, particularly for the bonnet with power bulge, roof, and side mirror caps. As reported previously, the top M2 variant will be offered with both a six-speed manual as well as a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, sending drive to the rear wheels exclusively via a limited-slip differential.
These will go along with the revised bodywork aesthetic, here most prominently seen on the front end with a longer front bumper splitter. Chassis revisions are certain to appear as well in order to better harness the more potent engine, and is likely to include a lower ride height with uprated springs and dampers.
Our sources add that production for the M2 CS is slated to begin next year, and said to be limited to 2,200 units. A public debut will take place before then, and for now this is expected to be in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
