Geely Coolray in Philippines Q4 2019 – CBU Binyue

The Geely Binyue is slated to enter the Philippines market as the Coolray in the fourth quarter of this year, according to Wheels.ph. This will go on sale in the Philippines fully imported from China, and will be sold for between 1.2 million to 1.3 million pesos, or between RM96,000 and RM105,000 via Sojitz Auto Philippines, the local distributor for Geely in the country.

The Philippines-market Coolray will be powered by a 1.5 litre turbo petrol engine producing 177 hp and 255 Nm of torque, sent to a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Driver assistance technologies are expected in the Coolray, including a 360-degree view monitor with four exterior cameras and an automatic parking assist feature.

“Right now, we have seven business partners lined up; these are expected to establish their dealerships by the last quarter (of this year). Fore the meantime, Sojitz will be both distributor and dealer,” said Geely sales and marketing manager in Philippines Froilan Dytianquin to Wheels.ph.

Though the model that many has tentatively called the X50 has already been spotted running road trials in the country, these have been left-hand-drive models, meaning they are still some way off ready for sale in Malaysia; approximately a year, according to Proton’s product launch strategy as shown at the launch of the 2019 Saga facelift.

From this, we also know that the Geely Binrui is a likely C-segment sedan candidate for Proton’s 2021 launch, followed by a likely Perdana replacement based on the Geely Borui. Rounding up the five-year launch plan spearheaded by the X70 is another SUV – an X70 successor, or something else altogether?

Pity poor Filipinos. Between RM96,000 and RM105000, we oredi get the one whole segment higher, more superior Proton X70 180HP.

Malaysia such a motoring heaven in the world

This game changing China SUV is very stunning, modern and advance, expected to be rebadged by Proton as X50. 20 years ago, we all hope that Proton will be able to create such exciting stunning cars the in future. But today, Proton is back on game over rebadging business again. Everyone is dissapointed, even using Proton SA most hated “Hyundai’s transmission” on Saga FL

  • RM96,000 and RM105,000? Likely won’t be this expensive when it comes here as this smacks right into X70 price. Cool name though.

All the lebais so proud of proton and was under the impression that Malaysia will be the export hub to market Geely cars under Proton’s brand and market the cars internationally .. End up Geli sendiri sell to other countries. Even new unit X50 arrive in Philippines before P1 manage to stick the badge locally…

    • Dude, is Malaysia a left hand drive (LHD) market? Either you have comprehension problem or didn’t even read the article. Proton caters to RHD market, while Philippines is LHD so direct import from China.

actually, from the beginning, we all know that Proton is just a brand for Geely to sell their cars and to help them expand to markets where they are unable to get in.

They have just successfully got into Malaysia now, with the X70 pushing Proton to second place, eventhough it does not carry the Geely brand, but at least they make it. And Proton brand will give them access to UK!

Anyway, it is a win-win for both Proton and Geely. We can blame no one for this. Look at KIA and Hyundai who were behind us then…. and now they are ahead. Where was Geely when Proton were set up back in 1985. After so many years, brands who are behind us are getting ahead.

Having said that, I am not bashing proton here ffs. I thought Geely has done a good job to get Proton back up again.

Phil gets it first because there is no RHD conversion. Proton will likely get the RHD markets.
Doesn’t make sense for Proton to setup an extra LHD plant at this time.

  • We must understand one thing. Geely only uses Proton to penetrate to our market. They are the one who is in control even though with the only 49.9%. Without Geely, Proton still running at the same place. Korean cars which is started slightly slower than us but far ahead of us now. Who still dare to shout Malaysia Boleh now?
