Proton is set to expand its newly established SUV portfolio to include a new B-segment compact SUV based on the Geely Binyue (SX11), which many are tentatively calling the X50. Recently, camouflaged examples of the Binyue have been spotted in the country, as seen in these photos posted by The Ajerul Facebook page.
The vehicles seen here are all left-hand drive units, and are likely used for development purposes similar to what we’ve witnessed with the X70 prior to its debut.
According to the source, standard and “sports” versions of the Binyue are being tested; the latter is identified by its bumper design that features smaller fog lamp enclosures, quad exhausts and a prominent rear wing.
If the X70 is any indication, the Binyue should get its fair share of personalised revisions in terms of design and equipment to better suit the local market before it goes on sale. However, just when that will take place, what it will actually be called, and more importantly, for how much, remains a mystery only Proton can answer.
The national carmaker is in the midst of upgrading its Tanjung Malim facility to cater to the manufacturing process of its X70, as well as next-generation Proton models, which should include the Binyue-based model. As the Binyue rides on Geely’s B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA), it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to assume Proton’s RM1.2 billion investment will include support for building the platform. Whether this extends to include the CMA used by Lynk & Co models is still unknown.
In China, the Binyue is available with a choice of two turbocharged, direct-injection three-cylinder petrol engines. The first is a Geely and Volvo co-developed 1.5 litre unit (174 hp and 255 Nm) paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, while the second option is a 1.0 litre unit (134 hp and 205 Nm) available only with a six-speed manual transmission.
Available equipment for the Binyue in China includes Level 2 autonomous driving features (adaptive cruise control, parking assist), GKUI system, autonomous emergency braking, seven-inch LCD instrument panel and 10.25-inch main display, among others. Prices range from 78,800 yuan (RM47,858) to 118,800 yuan (RM71,151) there.
As a recap, the national carmaker has already secured the use of intellectual properties (IP) and the rights to manufacture and sell three Geely models – the Boyue, Binyue and Jiaji (VF11).

At last, the real game changer has arrived to Malaysia. Habisla Proton models!
All Proton vendors laughing to the bank. Lolz
There goes our Proton cars. Our Proton did not know how China and Geely operated when they signed the merger.
Now, Geely will kill all Proton models completely. There goes 35 years of motoring history for Proton.
We now become just a rebadger and official distributor for Geely cars.
And all money we Malaysians spend, will make Geely China richer!
Bro, the X50 looks good… With that price maybe real game changer
Any CBU car, China gets all the money. Until September, our X70 is CBU
After September, Proton only gets 50.1% profits.
For now, all 15,000 orders – all profits go to China
(Like) Proton X50.
(Dislike) Honda HRV
Yah look good. U buy 1st then review after 2-3 yrs bro. China car bro…its gonna be pakai buang car. See what happen to Cherry cars now? Any good new u found abt Cherry cars now?
Don’t look so far. See what happened to Haval cars too
Proton has such a big workforce of 10,000 people. But for 20 years they only produce 50,000 cars per year
Mitsubishi in Thailand only got 6000 workers, but they produce 320,000 per annum
So what did our Malaysian workers do past few years? Why never design and create our own car?
Toyota got RV. China car got no RV
People gonna get shocked when their RM123k Proton X70 becomes RM60k when they try to sell it next year.
Haval also, new RM100k. one year later become RM30k
Proton is now PREMIUM GEELY reseller.
Malu betul. 30 years of goyang kaki in opis…..now we become like this
All UK and US car magazines never review China cars.
Is there a reason why they never review China cars?
They even review obscure cars like Seat from Spain etc. But never China cars.
I guess all UK and US auto magazines know they have dubious quality
the reason the not review it because they banned china product in their nation..that’s how they protect their national brand..how they want to ‘dubious’ it if not even reviewing the car..simple logic man..
Proton is losing RM4 million per day still. Now, Geely only gonna untung all the money
Bro, do mathematic.
All credits to Geely, the fridge maker only started making cars in 1997. 21years ago
I want to buy a Malaysian car with engines invented by Malaysians.
I am patriotic. I feel disgusted when I buy a Malaysian car that uses a China engine and a China body.
It makes me sick to know my National Car company has no cars of their own
Iriz, this car still got 90% of national invention.
Since when Malaysian got invent engine? Motorcycle engine also cannot invent la
You must be damn fit bro cos you walk and cycle everywhere…
Who cares, as long as Geely provides cars people want to buy. It’s purely business and nothing else now. Even with Proton’s so-called heritage cars, nobody bought. Isn’t the sales success of the X70 something you should take note of instead of saying something as…well, you know what you said…
X70 full spec rm123k, after 2 yrs rm40k.
X50 full spec estimated rm80k, after 2 yrs rm25k. Why RV gonna be so low? Well ask urself as a Msian mindset abt how poor is China product, will u buy 2nd hand China car even it high tech?
10yrs old toyota wish or honda crv will have better RV than 2-3 yrs old x70 soon.
With an RM40k price difference on that CRV? I would take my chances on that allegedly poor RV. In 10 years time, that RM40k I invested would top your CRV RV. The truth is, I already took my chances with X70! Now waiting for Sept to roll when I can get my own X70.
If u can get RM40k X70 full spec in 2020, sell RM50k to me, I let u earn RM10k.
Say what also i wont buy toyota or honda la, i will even buy Tata if they re present here
Buy property, not car for good RV. duh
And you’ve got a crystal ball! Fantastic! Use it to predict numbers instead ya, more productive
Give me ur contact number, I want your 2nd hand Full spec X70 at 40k…. You sila duduk, jangan lari.
I don’t know why Proton is so proud. You only should be proud if the cars were designed and built by Malaysians.
Proton really tak ada malu. Anyone also can be authorised reseller.
By the way, Proton where is our Proton Iriz EV? You showcased the EV 6 years ago and asked gomen for more money to do more research on the car. Billions were given. Where is this Malaysian car?
Also, Petronas spent billions to make engines for Proton. Where are these engines? Money down the drain again?
If you want to buy a good Toyota , buy a Mazda, Malu betul
U pun tak malu bawak kereta luar
Abesla Aruz! Who will buy that ugly junk MPV disguised as an SUV? Binyue/X60 is oozing with style, comfort, more high-techs than the latest smartphones. Confirmed this will be another 15,000 serial booker. Abesla Perodua!
HRV owners wud upgrade to Proton X50 1.5T
Don’t talk about Aruz because the company never begged one sen. Proton already got RM20 billion in bailouts and yet, we will not see any more Proton cars anymore.
Habis lah Persona, Saga, Exora, Suprima, Preve etc
Don’t talk about Perodua, it is purely a rebadger for nearly 30 years yet they declared themselves as national car and got exemptions and rebates as Proton, which makes their own cars. In other countries this is called a scam tactic.
This car is China’s hard work and success. We Malaysians never gave any input to this car.
I want to buy a real Proton, made by Malaysians.
Copy paste: “Read more and you wouldn’t sound so foolish”
Go buy protiga then, i heard its all local invention
Ok, go buy Saga, Iriz, Preve or Persona. No one is stopping you. Proton is not efficient enough to run independently and i think better close door.
Aruz haruz turun harga 60-65K. Kalau tidak mmg haruz tidak dpt jual.
Proton CBU China expensip.
CKD soon to come and will be cheaper by 10,000.
Aruz is still a Japanese Toyota car. Toyota engines are sold in 200 countries. The engines are highly recognised in all first world countries and won so many awards in those countries.
Geely engines are 95% sold only in China. Geely tried to sell their engines in other countries. All First world countries rejected the engines completely due to low quality.
So that is the difference between Aruz and Geely
So what’s this about Perodua being a rebadger and all money we Malaysians spend, will make Toyota Japan richer? Bit your own tongue again?
Searching at Wiki entry: Daihatsu Terios.

You simply can’t afford.
Tamak Perodua, skrg turun 20k pun tak ada org beli
P1 found a good match who wud share their best cars with the latest techs, unlike some stingy Jepunis overlords who gips their celup P2, ASEAN only junk outdated cars they themselves wun sell and use back in Nippon.
P1, Geely, Mesidis, VolvoCar, VolvoTrucks, Lotus, L&C > all
blame that only UMW. A Government GLC who never negotiated with Toyota for a good deal.
Even Honda also, another GLC, failed to negotiate with Honda Japan for a good deal ie more airbags and more safety spec.
Until 2 years ago, all our cars had no VSC and only 2 airbags. Even our Top Camry had only 2 airbags and no VSC until 2 years ago.
Whose fault? It is the lembap Government GLC who never negotiated a better deal for the rakyat of Malaysia.
they allowed the Japanese to give us under spec cars whilst all over the world, the same cars were sold with 9 airbags and VSC.
It was the lembap Government GLC, that made Proton the forefront in giving affordable safety to the masses when they intro 6 airbags and ESC+SC in Iriz & Preve. Don’t blame others when it’s your stingy Toyota Japan which takes us as fools.
So we stop buying Toyota and Perodua cars.
Correct. It is salahan local GLC companies and not the original brand itself. John should understand this
Habisla! Proton found the wrong match and now Proton will just be a Premium Geely Reseller selling Geely’s game changing cars. Proton game over cars are going to the museum
I have no problem with that, we no longer have to pay rm4 million a day for a failure car. Now that its with Geely, it is going to be a good news for malaysian consumer, affordable and reliable. Better malaysian consumer win than Mahathir crony vendor win
‘Share latest tech’? Dreaminglah. China cars had no market here before. ‘Owning’ P1 is just a way to make P1 becoming assembler/distributor so that Geely manage to penetrate local market. What’s the tech to share? It’s their own company.
“China cars had no market here before”.
Obviously you never left the cave and seen Changan and Haval cars on the road in Malaysia. Geely could have done the same at much lower cost but they aimed big and scored big. Ultimately it’s the rakyat which benefits from these modern, up-to-date, high tech, and very safe cars brought in and Proton’s revival is good for the economy.
Proton is directly going for Toyota’s jugular, being so soon in releasing “leaked” Binyue spyshots right after a Toyota Vios review article. Well played, Proton! Well played!
If the X50 Premium about same price as the Vios G, who would buy the Toyota anymore? A stylish, well-equipped SUV vs questionable looking sedan with fewer features. No contest.
Proton used back Perodua strategy. Wanna chop off Aruz head.
At least Mitsu shared the Lancer which at that time was their current model. The Inspira is relatively okay.
Wow! The amount of comments and replies made by the same troll and his dupes is enough to show how worried rival brands salesmen are to the impending X50.
He can dread it. He can try run from it. But destiny still arrives.
X70 100-130k. This little baby around 60-80k? Habislah all SUV in Malaysia. Proton slogan “I’m coming back” aka Arnold Susah Nak Eja (arnold schwarzenegger)
P1 found a good match who wud share their best cars with the latest techs, unlike some stingy Jepunis overlords who gips their celup P2, ASEAN only junk outdated cars they themselves wun sell and use back in Nippon.
P1, Geely, Mesidis, VolvoCar, VolvoTrucks, Lotus, L&C > all
So will they take 5 years to launch it or….?
Also pls price it below RM40k…
Even that stupid myvi don cost 40k what more this feature packed car
He only can afford secondhand last gen Mivi bro, itu pun bini kena topup sikit every month, that’s why.. don’t bother him. Ini la dia orang yang nak bergaya tapi tak mampu.
And he eats Mi Sedap every day just to maintain the Myvi. Maggi considered expensive to him.
Lagi satu ekor monyet, tak payah peduli.
Go buy Axia if you can’t afford it.
Lower price will be same as low spec Aruz, higher price will be same as low spec HR-V.
In that time, who gonna buy C-HR anymore?
Toyota fanboys
Toyota ?? Only the Hilux can sell these days. The Camry and CHR is freakin expensive. The Vios cannot compete with City. So its just a matter of time before Toyota become like Ford. Sell pickup trucks only.
I like your engine. Wipe out Exora, Perdana, Saga, Preve, Persona and Iriz. Get all model from Geely and uses turbo engine. Because Malaysian really looking forward for turbo engine which is reliable (Geely and Volco joint tech). After that owner will install blow off, all car will have pssssszzzz pssssszzz sound during changing gear.
Kudos Geely Chinas! Super efficiency by local MY ppl standards.
Lawa betoi mak aii.. b4 proses celup kat Tg Malim
I would ever image I would say this. This looks good if they do slap a Proton badge on this beauty. I don’t care where it made nor if its own by who. I’m looking for quality and good product.
47k? Myvi tak laku nanti…
Geeky is doing a good job at the moment, hopefully their products come with Volvo reliability and durability, time will tell
i think their cars are pretty reliable. the x70 for example.. has been on sale since 2016 in China as the boyue.. its still on sale today, and selling well with over 600,000 on the road today.. the chinese market consumer is well known as super complainers and are very very tough customers.. plus.. they are also huge social media users.. im sure if geely models, or the boyue have major problems.. there is no way anyone can hide the news.
Unlike here, Perodua and Toyota always covered their ass after a fart.
At last we get a cheaper car from china…
Yesterday, I popped into my local car dealer in the UK. They used to sell Protons in the past. I said they may want to look at the new Proton X70. Hopefully, the Proton plant will be fully utilized one day. I know that the previous Protons were not homologated to UK standard.
Price range must be between Perodua Aruz(7seater) and Haval H4(5seater) if really want attract people to buy it. if not, make it 7 seater and give same price as Perodua Aruz.
Top spec Binyue with Level 2 autonomous driving is selling at RM70k++ in China.
Here will be selling RM100k
of course la…. geely squeeze part proton vendor like hell… i heard around 30%… take it or leave it….
Gud vendors stayed with P1 and took up Geelys challenge. Kroni ones just transfer over to Bapak new baby, PeroTiga with their overpriced parts.
Those vendors are fat cats with 30 years of easy money going into their pockets by supplying sub standard parts. About time they do business like the rest of the world by producing quality products, instead of relying to ‘connections’.
X70 look very uncle style. I will go for this , cheaper and look younger
X70 selling target is really for age 40 above, X50 target youngster.
Either way P1 will winrar. So sumpah tak kesah.
Honda CR-V also feels like an aunties’ and uncles’ car. Don’t you think so?
Small children no need to buy expensive cars lah. Just buy cheap second hand one. Even better take the public transport. Save money.
another SUV model??..should proceed with d mpv model after PX70..oppss..i mean X70..and pliz..no need all those pricey talking crap and skyroof..features need for d coming mpv shall include identical full size spare tyre, front & back video recorder, nano tech ceramic body paint, windows & rear screen curtain and sliding back doors on top of standard modern features.
nicey…
Wah… so pretty inside out…
wow…..very nice looking car
The reliability of this car and the X70 is a big question mark still. Too early to judge their cars.
Smart buyer will get the C-HR. A stylish car with good TNGA platform, proven reliability of the dual VVT-i engine and good RV.
Brother…. Still day dream ha??? Can see each month car sales report? Toyota keep dropping… Can’t even beat Proton? CHR, all new Toyota with outdated spec engine n gear box Plus complicated looks…. Sales will drop harder… Offer potential buyers latest technology, engine and gear box…. Not give us junk at premium price… maintenance Service now a day also getting worse, done nothing charges over Rm580 for services Fortunes 2.7L!
Level 2 autonomous driving system on the X50. Aruz and HRV what level? 0.5?
Level -2.
Habislah x70
The real game changer! Habislah myvi!
When can start booking X50
any news when it will be launching in Msia?
