After the Volkswagen Arteon made its global debut in Geneva in 2017, the successor to the coupe-roofed CC made its first Malaysian appearance at the paultan.org Premium Auto Car Expo (PACE) 2018. Local brand custodian Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia has been taking orders for the Arteon from July.
The Arteon is built upon the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform, and it measures 4,862 mm long, 1,871 mm wide and 1,427 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,841 mm. Rolling stock features the 19-inch Montevideo wheels as seen on the display unit at PACE 2018, shod in 245/40R19 tyres front and rear, paired to the R-Line bodykit.
The added dimensions relative to its predecessor, the CC offer an interior with 1,016 mm of legroom, while luggage capacity is 565 litres with the rear seats in place and 1,557 litres with the rear seats folded.
A turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine continues to be the order of the day, specifically a 2.0 litre TSI mill producing 280 PS and 350 Nm of torque. These outputs are sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed DSG wet dual-clutch transmission and 4Motion all-wheel-drive.
Switchable drive modes courtesy of Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) is comprised of Eco, Normal, Comfort, Sport and Individual modes, working with the XDS electronic differential lock. Inside, this is complemented by an Active Info Display digital instrument panel, a 9.2-inch Discover Pro infotainment system featuring gesture control and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
A 360-degree view camera setup is also present in the Arteon, with further safety equipment including six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, hill start assist, ABS with EBD and brake assist as well as ISOFIX mounts for child seats in the rear passenger compartment.
For the Malaysian market, Volkswagen’s gran turismo gets a range of eight exterior colours – Manganese Grey, Deep Black, Reflex Silver, Romance Red, Urano Grey, Turmeric Yellow, Oryx White Pearl and Pyrite Silver. The Volkswagen Arteon is a fully imported model, and is manufactured at the company’s plant in Emden, Germany.
Official pricing will be announced in due course, with the Arteon previously estimated to cost between RM290,000 and RM310,000. Its Malaysian launch is expected to take place in October.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
nice. gunna upgrade frm my current Stinger GT
I wish Proton was not so arrogant and rejected VW’s proposal to kahwin. Otherwise by now, we will have Proton Arteon and Proton Tiguan and Proton Tuoreg
All highly rated award winning German cars.
Pulak now, we are stuck with China made Protons. No awards won. Not even sold in any first world country also
I think if that had happened, you’d be cursing Proton for the ‘reliable’ German gearboxes and carbon deposit build up that needs Walnut polishing services.
Walnut is expensive in Malaysia so for application to Proton made VW cars, will be using Menglembu peanut polishing. Too bad this didn’t happen or me and my tow truck friend businesses will boom.
the same car, Audi A5 Sportback looked less menacing than this VW. although the Audi cost 20k more and less warranty ….
This is truly a game over decision by Proton rejecting VW colaboration. If the colab happened, today we could be driving game changers like Proton Beetle, Tiguan, Golf, Polo and Vento.
Once we give up NEP and NAP, we also can start making good quality cars like this Arteon.
Yes bro. I wish more will buy VW and not Protons. Then my friend tow truck here is ready to tarik when all of you breakdown at the roadsides. And my tow truck is ready to tarik those repossessed VW cars, especially those bought during CNY. Mari mari come give us business! Huat ah!
The front is all grille. Can turn it into BBQ deck.
but it’s just chromed plastic. will melt if you try to use for BBQ.
Honda accord 2.0 turbo is a better car. it is fast and still reliable.
LOL accord with lousy old tech gearbox? dream on
hehehe, that lousy old tech greabox is probably a Pro instead of Con for our market….
But it’s everything else but fast. Possibly enough for elderly people.
Ben Yap is right. Honda Accord 2.0 is fast enough (maybe too fast) for an elderly gentleman.
In China there, they already did a disassemble test on this Arteon. Basically it is just a overpriced Passat.
Dissassemble test? They disassembled to copy all the parts.
the real game changer, habisla x70!
Are you stupid or what? It’s totally different car segment. Can you say an apple taste better than plum
For ~RM300K… I’ll choose the BWM G20…
Wonder why still no news regarding Mk6 Polo for Malaysia. Not gonna sell B-Segment anymore?
i wonder how people comment this… also near 300K like Stinger… all the BMW Mers internet forum buyer will come out…
What a very nice car… If can make the price reasonable and improve their aftersales, the car sales can be guaranteed good!
Good car. Bad price, because fully imported. So, how many units do they expect to sell?
Where are all the driver assistance systems?? Not even aeb :(
can climb cameron or not
Good article,
VW is this pre or post recession price like commented good car but bad price.
Nice car but not so nice after sales, VW service group is very deceiving
Don’t compare VW to proton la wah .. study the technology Volkswagen ..
Overpriced passat. Better go for G20 / c300
