The Malaysia Zero Emission Vehicle Association (MyZEVA) has revealed the best-selling battery-electric vehicles in Malaysia in the first seven months of this year, from January to July 2024. According to the association, there are an estimated 12,400 units of battery-electric vehicles sold in Malaysia as of July 2024.
Topping the list is the BYD Seal with 17% of market share, which was launched locally in February this year in two variants, and this was joined by the Seal Dynamic earlier this month.
Following closely behind at 16% share is its stablemate, the Atto 3, and rounding up the top three places for best-selling EVs in Malaysia is the Tesla Model Y at 15% share. The Tesla Model 3 took 13%, while the top five is rounded out by the BYD Dolphin with 8% share.
In the second half, the sixth-placed Great Wall Ora Good Cat takes 3%, followed by the smart #1 Brabus in seventh place also with 3%. The top 10 table of best-selling BEVs are rounded out by the MG4, BMW i5 and the BMW iX2 at 2% share apiece.
The association expects EV sales in Malaysia to reach 20,000 units this year, and the aforementioned figure of 12,400 units as at July is already close to its own full-year figure for 2023, which is 13,257 units.

the reason is price and price alone. nobody is paying 190k for a small car by mini, smart or volvo when you can a byd seal for cheaper.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens after the CBU tax exemption comes to an end, and the CKD one a couple of years thereafter. We Malaysians are a price sensitive bunch after all.
They have never learned from Kia n Hyundai which are dying…190k for A Segment ex30 EV? I will go for 2-3 segments higher H6 hybrid 1.5T or Jaecoo C9 2.0T
