The above video is going viral on X, showing a man in a Petronas T-shirt (not known if he is an employee) telling viewers to push the Emergency Stop, or E-Stop button if they see any foreign-registered car using RON 95 petrol (which is subsidised for Malaysians only; foreign cars are supposed to use RON 97 petrol).
He says the button can be used by members of the public, and not just staff, for three reasons – fire, fuel overflow in case the nozzle lacks auto-stop, and to prevent foreign-registered vehicles from pumping RON 95 petrol. When you push the button, he says fuel flow will stop at that particular pump.
Subject to expert or official opinion and/or statement on the matter, we’re not so sure it’s a good idea – two years ago another X user told the public to do the same.
We reported then that pressing E-Stop may also stop fuel flow on the other side of the same island and that some stations (different fuel companies may have different failsafes and protocols) may take time to restart fuel flow, causing delays for everyone.
According to the Petroleum Dealers Association of Malaysia (PDAM), the official procedure is to immediately inform petrol station cashiers or forecourt staff if they see foreign vehicles pumping RON 95 petrol. The staff can then remotely stop the pump.
We’re sure you guys and gals have lots of thoughts on this – discuss away below.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Only JHK sinkie PR returns marehsia driving their COE car pumps RON95 petrol. True sinkies come marehsia pumps v-power racing or RON100 since its cheap.
Real stupid act, when soon PMX will remove RON95 subsidy why Sinkie car cannot pump this too?
Be nice to your neighbors. Go over and help them shake their cars. I promise you fast and easy entry into sinkieland
Any bets on how long someone presses the button on a Sabah registered car thinking its from Singapore?
asking members of the public to be vigilantes, could backfire, very fast.
Let’s just set those idiots cars on fire. Or break some glass. That will show them.
Or they may be too stupid to notice.
Rather than acting like a hooligan or with hostility towards tourists which makes us looks ugly, governement should ask all petrol station to put up a sign that clearly states “Foregn vehicles are only allowed to purchase RON 97. Subsidized RON 95 are exclusively for Malaysian registered vehicles only”. Isn’t that better and also makes being Malaysia feel better and tourists will envy being Malaysian.
Singaporeans are switching their car plates to Malaysian plates, bro.
Very dangerous tutorial to incite people to press the STOP button begets causing grievance hurt if a fight broke out
How to know they are Malaysian? test them to speak in full BM. Simple.
We dunno speak BM.
We speak bahsa wecet and basa rempit
Nobody comments anymore
Just push it and think later.
