    2023 Mazda CX-3 1.5L Core in Malaysia – entry-level variant with 114 hp, 149 Nm; CBU Thailand; fr RM108k

The Mazda CX-3 line-up was expanded last year to include two new variants, with the one featured here being the 1.5L Core. Priced at RM107,920 on-the-road without insurance, the entry-level option sits below the 2.0L Core (RM118,359) and 2.0L High (RM131,559).

The Core variants are powered by the same Skyactiv-G 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine used in the Mazda 2, with outputs of 114 hp at 6,000 rpm and 149 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The mill, which features Mazda’s i-Stop idling start/stop technology, is paired with a Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission that sends drive to the front wheels.

While it may be down on power compared to the High which serves up 154 hp and 206 Nm from its 2.0 litre engine, the Core variants offer slightly better fuel consumption at 5.7 l/100 km instead of 6.3 l/100 km.

In terms of equipment, the base variant comes with 16-inch alloy wheels (with 215/60 profile tyres), halogen projector headlamps and bulb-type daytime running lights. If you want automatic LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, rain-sensing wipers, auto-folding side mirrors and parking sensors, you’ll need to step up to the 2.0L High.

Other standard items that are fitted to the Core include fabric seat upholstery, manual air-conditioning controls, keyless entry and start, powered side mirrors, a multi-function steering wheel, a 4.6-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster and a selectable Sport mode. Despite its positioning, the Core does come with an electronic parking brake (with auto brake hold) and passive cruise control.

There’s also the Mazda Connect infotainment system that includes an eight-inch touchscreen as well as support for wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This system is linked to a reverse camera and a six-speaker sound system – this kit list applies to the 2.0L Core as well.

The meet the price point, the Core variants miss out on the High’s head-up display, paddle shifters, Qi wireless charger, automatic air-conditioning system, a powered driver’s seat, leatherette upholstery and 360-degree camera.

Both also come without the High’s safety and driver assistance systems, which are six airbags, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, high beam control and driver attention alert. Instead, they make do with two airbags and the usual array of passive systems (ABS, EBD, Dynamic Stability Control, traction control, Hill Launch Assist and ISOFIX child seat anchors).

This CX-3 is finished in Polymetal Grey, which is one of several colours offered, with the others being Soul Red Crystal, Snowflake White Pearl, Machine Grey, Platinum Quartz and Jet Black. Each purchase comes with a five-year/100,000-km vehicle warranty and free maintenance package.

It should be noted that the CX-3 is now fully imported (CBU) from Thailand, as opposed to from Japan previously. At this asking price, is the CX-3 1.5L Core something you might consider if you’re in the market for a compact B-segment crossover/SUV?

2022 Mazda CX-3 launched in Malaysia – new 2.0L and 1.5L Core variants; now CBU Thailand; from RM108k

Bermaz Motor has announced the availability of two new variants of the Mazda CX-3, with the 1.5L Core and 2.0L Core joining the existing 2.0L High that received an update in March this year. The expanded line-up has been known for some time as we reported on it back in last month, with details like specs and pricing sourced from Mazda Malaysia’s website.

Anyway, it’s all official now, and customers will have two more affordable options to consider if they want to purchase a CX-3. It should be noted that the crossover is now fully imported (CBU) from Thailand, where it is assembled by AutoAlliance Thailand (AAT) at Mazda’s plant in Rayong – it was previously a CBU Japan model. Visually, the car looks the same as the facelifted model that arrived here in 2018, with equipment levels being one way to tell the variants apart.

The new base variant of the CX-3 is the 1.5L Core, which is priced at RM107,870 on-the-road without insurance. Unlike the other two, this gets the same Skyactiv-G 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine used in the Mazda 2, with outputs of 114 hp at 6,000 rpm and 149 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.

2022 Mazda CX-3 launched in Malaysia – new 2.0L and 1.5L Core variants; now CBU Thailand; from RM108k

Going up to the mid-spec 2.0L Core at RM118,159, you get a 2.0 litre version of the Skyactiv-G that is also used in the 2.0L High. The larger-displacement engine provides 154 hp at 6,000 rpm and 206 Nm at 2,800 rpm, although fuel consumption takes a hit at 6.3 l/100 km instead of the 1.5 litre engine’s 5.7 l/100 km.

All engines are mated to a Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission that sends drive to the front wheels and feature idling start/stop technology. The powertrains also come with Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control (GVC) that uses engine timing to control chassis dynamics for smoother, more accurate steering inputs.

Both Core variants get the same level of equipment, with their engines being the only thing justifying the RM10,289 price gap between them. Standard items include 16-inch alloy wheels (with 215/60 profile tyres) in place of the 2.0L High’s 18 inchers (with 215/50 profile tyres).

2022 Mazda CX-3 launched in Malaysia – new 2.0L and 1.5L Core variants; now CBU Thailand; from RM108k

In terms of lighting, it’s halogen projector headlamps instead of LEDs, and they are not joined by automatic on/off and levelling functions, LED DRLs (bulb-type instead) and LED fog lamps. You also won’t get rain-sensing wipers, auto-folding side mirrors and any parking sensors.

inside, the Core variants also miss out on the High’s head-up display, paddle shifters, Qi wireless charger and powered driver’s seat. The air-conditioning is also manually operated instead of being an automatic system, while fabric upholstery is used instead of leatherette to help hit those price points.

Familiar items from the High include powered side mirrors, keyless entry and start, an electronic parking brake, a multi-function steering wheel, passive cruise control, a 4.6-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster display, a selectable Sport mode.

Elsewhere, the Mazda Connect infotainment system is the same as the one the High got during the March update. The system includes an eight-inch touchscreen, six speakers as well as support for wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay – only the High gets wireless CarPlay. A reverse camera is standard with the Core variants but there’s no 360-degree view monitor.

On safety and driver assists, the Core variants only get two airbags (the High gets six) and the usual array of passive systems (ABS, EBD, Dynamic Stability Control, traction control, Hill Launch Assist, brake auto hold, ISOFIX child seat anchors). Both are without the High’s active systems that were added during last year’s update, so there’s no autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, high beam control and driver attention alert.

As for the High, it remains unchanged in terms of kit and price too at RM131,359, but there is one notable revision and that is colours. The palette now includes Soul Red Crystal, Snowflake White Pearl, Machine Grey, Polymetal Grey, Platinum Quartz and Jet Black, the last of which replaces the previously available Deep Crystal Blue.

The High’s colour options are also offered for the Core variants and each purchase comes with a five-year/100,000-km vehicle warranty and free maintenance package. There’s also an optional Activ-e film tint for an extra RM1,900 that can be added on to all variants. With three options to choose from, would you pick the CX-3 over other B-segment SUV/crossover models currently on sale?

2022 Mazda CX-3 in Malaysia – now CBU Thailand; two new 1.5L and 2.0L Core variants added; from RM108k

Last month, we reported based on a price list sent to us by a reader that the Mazda CX-3 would gain two additional variants for a total of three. Well, here they are, and although Bermaz Motor has yet to officially launch the revamped line-up, details like pricing and specifications are now readily available on Mazda Malaysia’s website.

Before we proceed further, here’s a little backstory on the CX-3. The B-segment SUV was first launched in Malaysia way back in December 2015 and has been offered in a sole variant since then and through its 2017 update, 2018 facelift and two further revisions in 2021 as well as earlier in March this year.

Now, the two variants joining the mix are the 1.5G 2WD Core and 2.0G 2WD Core, both of which slot in below the familiar 2.0G 2WD High. It’s important to point out that the CX-3 is now fully imported (CBU) from Thailand, where it is assembled by AutoAlliance Thailand (AAT) at its plant in Rayong. This has apparently started with the 2022 model year – the crossover was previously brought in from Japan.

2022 Mazda CX-3 in Malaysia – now CBU Thailand; two new 1.5L and 2.0L Core variants added; from RM108k

Let’s start with the 1.5G 2WD Core. Priced at RM107,870 on-the-road without insurance, the base variant of the CX-3 range is powered by a Skyactiv-G 1.5 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that serves up 114 hp at 6,000 rpm and 149 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.

Meanwhile, the 2.0G 2WD Core (RM118,159) gets the same engine as the 2.0G 2WD High (RM131,359), with a 2.0 litre version of the Skyactiv-G pumping out 154 hp at 6,000 rpm and 206 Nm at 2,800 rpm. All engines send drive to the front wheels via a Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission.

The Core variants are identical in terms of kit, with the only thing justifying the RM10,289 price gap between them being engine capacity. Nonetheless, both are still cheaper than the sole High option, although the standard equipment you get is quite a bit different.

2022 Mazda CX-3 in Malaysia – now CBU Thailand; two new 1.5L and 2.0L Core variants added; from RM108k

For instance, the Core variants are fitted 16-inch alloy wheels (with 215/60 profile tyres) instead of the range-topper’s 18-inch units (with 215/50 profile tyres). The new additions also get halogen headlamps instead of LEDs, and they are without automatic on/off and levelling functions.

Still on the topic of lighting, bulb-type DRLs and taillights are used instead of LEDs, and there are no LED front fog lamps on the Core vehicles. Other things that are missing include rain-sensing wipers, auto-folding side mirrors and any parking sensors.

Moving inside, the Core variants do not get the High’s head-up display, paddle shifters, Qi wireless charger and a powered driver’s seat. The air-conditioning is also a manual affair instead of the High’s single-zone automatic system, while fabric upholstery is used instead of leatherette.

As for things you do get from the High, they include powered side mirrors, keyless entry and start, an electronic parking brake, a multi-function steering wheel, passive cruise control, a 4.6-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster display, a selectable Sport mode, idling start/stop and G-Vectoring Control (GVC).

The eight-inch Mazda Connect touchscreen infotainment system (introduced with other items as part of the 2022 update) is also present and continues to be accompanied by six speakers as well as support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, although it’s purely connection by wire (the High has wireless CarPlay). A reverse camera is standard but there’s no 360-degree view monitor.

The High variant received a few driver assistance systems as part of its 2021 update, which saw the addition of front and rear Smart City Brake Support (autonomous emergency braking), lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, high beam control and driver attention alert.

These systems are absent with the Core variants, and while the passive systems (ABS, EBD, Dynamic Stability Control, traction control, Hill Launch Assist, brake auto hold, ISOFIX child seat anchors) are the same, the airbag count has been reduced from six to just two.

Once again, pricing for the 2022 CX-3 starts at RM107,870 for the 1.5G 2WD Core, and it’ll cost you an extra RM10,289 to get a larger engine with the 2.0G 2WD Core that retails at RM118,159. The range-topping 2.0G 2WD High maintains its asking price of RM131,359 following the end of SST exemption, which is a RM13,200 premium on top of the mid-spec option.

Each purchase comes with a five-year/100,000-km vehicle warranty and free maintenance package, and customers can also option Activ-e film tint for an extra RM1,900 – available for all variants. With the lower asking prices of the Core variants, will you consider it over other B-segment SUV/crossover models in the market?

2022 Mazda CX-3 1.5L price in Malaysia revealed by dealer – from RM107,870 OTR without insurance

Mazda distributor in Malaysia, Bermaz Motor introduced the updated-for-2022 Mazda CX-3 in Malaysia in March this year, and now it appears that the fully imported (CBU) B-segment SUV will gain a new variant in its line-up.

This addition to the brand’s line-up comes from a dealer price list sent to paultan.org by a reader, which lists the CX-3 1.5G in a sole variant named 2WD Core, which is priced at RM107,870 on-the-road without insurance.

Listed with an engine displacement of 1,496 cc, this would be same naturally aspirated engine that produces 114 hp at 6,000 rpm and 149 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, and is paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox in the Mazda 2 hatchback and sedan. Adding the Activ-e window film tacks on RM1,900 to the vehicle’s price, bringing the total to RM109,770.

This list from the dealer also includes pricing for other variants in the CX-3 range, where the 2.0G 2WD Core and 2.0G 2WD High are now priced at RM118,159 and RM131,359 respectively, the latter additionally bringing a sunroof as a cost option at RM2,000.

The larger-engined variants should continue to use the 2.0 litre Skyactiv-G naturally aspirated petrol engine rated to produce 154 hp at 6,000 rpm and 206 Nm of torque at 2,800 rpm. As with its more modestly engined rangemate, the 2.0 litre variant employs a six-speed automatic transmission and front wheel-drive.

Equipment in the CX-3 as of its update in March this year includes six airbags, ABS, stability control, EBD, brake assist, traction control, emergency stop signal, Hill Launch Assist, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, walk away lock, all-seat seatbelt warning and Isofix child seat anchors.

Additions to the CX-3 for the 2022 model year as introduced in March include the larger eight-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto smartphone connectivity, and a Qi wireless device charger.

The i-Activsense suite of active safety features that already featured in the CX-3 from the previous update includes High Beam Control (HBC), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Driver Attention Alert (DAA) and Smart City Brake Support (AEB front and rear), blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert, and may turn out to be the preserve of the higher trim level variant.

According to this price list, the 2022 Mazda CX-3 in 1.5 litre and 2.0 litre forms continue to be covered by a five-year, 100,000 km warranty as well as a five-year, 100,000 km free maintenance package.

2022 Mazda CX-3 updated in Malaysia – Qi charger and larger eight-inch touchscreen added; RM131,929

In addition to the Ignite Edition variants of the Mazda 3 and CX-30, Bermaz Motor also introduced the updated CX-3 for the 2022 model year. The changes done to the fully-imported (CBU) B-segment crossover are relatively minor and do result in a slight increase in price.

As before, just one variant is available – 2.0L High – which now retails at RM131,929 on-the-road without insurance. This is inclusive of the 50% sales tax exemption on CBU cars and is RM1,200 more than when the CX-3 received a prior update in 2021.

New for 2022 is a Qi wireless charger as well as an eight-inch touchscreen, the latter being an inch larger than before. The touchscreen continues to be linked to the Mazda Connect infotainment system, which now supports wireless Apple CarPlay instead of just a wired connection – there’s still Android Auto but that still requires a cable.

2022 Mazda CX-3 updated in Malaysia – Qi charger and larger eight-inch touchscreen added; RM131,929

Beyond these improvements, the rest of the CX-3 remains unchanged, with standard features like 18-inch wheels with 215/50 profile tyres, LED lighting (automatic headlamps, DRLs, front fog lamps and taillights), rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry, a powered sunroof, eight parking sensors (four front and four rear), a 360-degree view camera and tinting (now called Activ-e Film).

Inside, there’s leatherette upholstery, a 10-way powered driver’s seat with memory function, a 4.6-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster display, a head-up display, single-zone automatic climate control, six speakers and paddle shifters.

The i-Activsense suite that was added as per the previous update remains and includes High Beam Control (HBC), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Driver Attention Alert (DAA) and Smart City Brake Support (SCBS), the last of which is autonomous emergency braking for the front and rear. These join the existing Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

Passive safety systems include six airbags (front, side and curtain), ABS, Dynamic Stability Control, EBD, brake assist, traction control, emergency stop signal, Hill Launch Assist, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, walk away lock, all-seat seatbelt warning and Isofix child seat anchors.

Motivation continues to be provided by a SkyActiv-G 2.0 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine making 154 hp at 6,000 rpm and 206 Nm of torque at 2,800 rpm. Drive is sent to the front wheels via a SkyActiv-Drive six-speed automatic transmission, allowing for a top speed of 197 km/h. Other driving-related systems are Mazda’s i-Stop idling technology and G-Vectoring Control (GVC).

Each purchase continues to come with a five-year, 100,000-km warranty and free maintenance package. As for colours, returning options are Soul Red Crystal, Snowflake White Pearl, Deep Crystal Blue, Machine Grey and a new Polymetal Grey, with Platinum Quartz being a new hue available to customers.
