MINI One is back – more kit, price 3k up, RM146,888

MINI One 2013-03

The entry-level MINI One, brought in yearly by BMW Malaysia in small batches, is back in town. Buyers of this fresh batch stand to get more kit than before, but there’s also an accompanying price increase.

As before, the One is available in either Chili Red or Pepper White. Those rims are the same 15-inch 5-Star Twin Spoke alloys, but there are some new kit such as multifunction buttons, sport steering wheel, rain sensor and automatic lights, radio MINI Boost and Bluetooth hands free kit with USB interface. These make the One feel less bare bones and more like a Cooper from the inside.

The MINI One is powered by a detuned version of the 1.6 litre four-cylinder engine from the Cooper. Here, it makes 98 hp and 150 Nm of torque, and when paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox, delivers good average fuel consumption of 6.7 litres per 100 km.

Fancy one? The price for One is RM146,888 OTR without insurance, a RM3,000 increase over the previous late-2012 batch with less kit.

Buyers would want to add on the MINI Tender Loving Care (TLC) service package for RM4,088 (around RM1k costlier). TLC takes care of everything (engine oil change; air filter, micro filter, spark plugs and brake fluid; maintenance and servicing of brake pads/discs and clutch in the event of wear and tear, replacement of wiper blades, etc) for three years or 50,000 km, whichever comes first.

These cars are for the rich Datins as play tools. Whilst their husbands who are mainly cronies fly overseas to attend to their mistresses, they too go around in this Mini looking for that young guy.

  • Seriously, who will buy this car at that price range ? This car is neither here nor there.

To says performance, it is BIG NO.
To says handling, it is BIG NO.Fiesta at cheaper price will run in circles.
To says Gaya, Nah, it is passe. Beetle look cuter.
To says classic, i rather buy the Ori Mini.

So, who are they targeting to part almost rm150k for a small car ?

      Yes, Beetle looks more cantiq/cute.
Rich person bought Mini as a toy or as a present to his kid(how many airbags wa?); husband bought for young wife simply because she loved the car; maybe that’s why it could sell fast, from previous record.
Other than young persons, mature ones cannot drive Mini to work, feel awkward (although it is eye-catching).
Some people have small cars (smallest cars) in their garages which are full of big vehicles, 4 or 5; these small cars can be Beetle or Mini, classic/antique cars which are seldom driven by themselves. Toy le.

      • Yes this car is not targeted for everyone. Those who got money and want something different.. they will go it…simple rule applies. I do agree with Jimmy.. just as another toy for them (me, one day perhaps. hahaha)

A lady’s car in every sense though she has other options like a cheaper VW Polo but I guess who wants a Polo when you can own a Mini eh?

A modest price increase with more kit though I think a Mini would look better with xenon headlights rather than halogen ones and the 15″ rims look a tad small for such a car.

Insanely Expensive, poor handling, poor safety feature, voted by consumer report as bottom 10 most unreliable car (or brand) which is why all new buyer have to consider the silly tender loving care package crap.

I have seen mini can’t start-up at the parking lot twice… once was in the KLCC, another was under a egg boiling hot sun (at perlis ) and good luck on getting support from the closest dealer (penang ).

148……. dude, there are so many mini or mediumish car choices out there ~

92 horsepower. Now this car is for people who want to tunjuk tnjuk only, catching people eye. This car failed in every segment. Performance, no. Affordability, I rather buy the so called overpriced Golf mk7. Reliability, definitely no. Fun, maybe better than a Vios or Camry. Practicality, rear passenger want to get in the car is so difficult. Conclusion, this car is “I no money buy better Mini Cooper, so I buy the look of a Mini. So now just shut up and look at me! I drive a Mini! Look at me now look!”

  • The car can b very expensive and it doesn’t even worth at all to own the mini one because poor family think too many thing(money issue) before spending every penny in their small pocket. If its for rich people, they think this way: just get the car if they like it, nothing to worry about, only thing to concern is either LIKE or DON’T LIKE. Simple! This means the car and this price tag is for those Rich ppl or Mini super fans!

  • For me, the problem with Mini is that there are too many out there now.

At RM140k, I would rather get a Volkswagen Beetle 1.2TSI, but the problem with Beetle is that you have to wait more than 6 months to get the car. As much as I like the Beetle, over 6 months waiting time is a big put off. You want something that you can drive immediately, not 6 months later.
