VIDEO: Volkswagen Golf GTD in five amusing TV ads

The chosen advertising campaign for the new Volkswagen Golf GTD Mk7 is a clever one. Naturally it focuses on the diesel GTD’s low fuel consumption combined with performance, as this is a car that does 23.8 km per litre and emits just 109 g/km of CO2, yet has 184 PS/380 Nm and is capable of a 7.5 second century sprint.

There are five viral spots in the campaign, all of which you can watch here. The 20-second clips take a tongue-in-cheek look at the Golf GTD Mk7’s acceleration capability; each with varying degrees of success. The pizza and ice cream-themed videos tickled my funny bone the most; so do find time to have a watch.

Alongside the amusing videos, Volkswagen is also running a web special with humorous motifs along the lines of in-flight safety demonstrations. It’s long and rather long-winded but it’s definitely witty and worth a look – perfect for long workdays during the fasting month. Check it out here.

In the picture gallery below are two print/billboard ads that will run concurrently with the rest of the web campaign. One of the taglines reads: “Once the lights turn green, so will your passengers”. Too bad us Malaysians will only turn green in envy as there’s little chance of the Golf GTD Mk7 ever coming here. Stings doesn’t it?

Unless goverment here allows Euro 4 or above fuel to be sold nation-wide. There is no chance for diesel passenger cars to reach here.

7.5 secs is nothing to shout about..the ads are exaggerating. It’s kinda stupid to sell car with such acceleration while it’s problematic gearbox. So after several weeks which sc the car will stay long? LOL

It’s ads! That’s what it does.. exaggeration.

But you have a point, 7.5 is nothing to shout about.

If you need something below 5, get other car to satisfy you or pay more for more powerful car. 5~7s is very good for majority of people. If need hardcore, go for hardcore car…

Really wouldn’t mind a diesel car but it would be laughable to spend a lot on a diesel car only to be spewing white smoke while running around town looking for a petrol station with enough diesel to sell to you.

“this is a car that does 23.8 km per litre and emits just 109 g/km of CO2, yet has 184 PS/380 Nm and is capable of a 7.5 second century sprint.” Wow, this is a super fast car and super fuel efficient too! Even a Vios/City/Almera can’t get you more milleage than this? It’s a excellent car… well if the DSG didnt go wrong on the way. Hah
