BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe reveals more metal

These are the clearest photos yet of the upcoming BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, the third body type of the BMW 4 Series after the Coupe and the yet-to-be-launched Convertible. Like the 6 Series Gran Coupe, it’s essentially a four-door version of its two-door sibling.

You may question the need for a 4 Series Gran Coupe since the 3 Series and 4 Series are so similar. After all, the 3 Series and 4 Series look very much alike with near identical interiors as well, as opposed to the big difference between the 5 Series and the 6 Series. But BMW seems to think there’s enough differentiation.

As you can see from the images, the 4 Series Gran Coupe has a more cab-rearward look compared to the 4 Series, with the roofline above the C-pillar having a more sloping design. The car looks wider and the lower roof gives the impression that it’s longer as well. We wonder if the wheelbase has been extended like what BMW did with the 3 Series GT.

Other than the different side profile and wider front/rear view, everything else is as predicted. We even see the same front bumper as the 4 Series Coupe on the car, which is probably why BMW didn’t bother putting any disguise on the front.

I’m still wonder if BMW still called as Ultimate Driving Machine when even mere Lexus can drive as good as it. And it’s really shame that M performance car need to play engine note through a speaker.

I must say the design language of BMWs of late has been rather stale. Very little differentiation has been made between the models and also amongst their facelift LCIs.

Can’t seem to see the difference between the 3 and 4 series. 5 series facelift was a disappointment compared to the step up made on the E Class facelift. The interiors for F30 looks almost similar to that of the outgoing E90. The orange color lighting dashboard/instrument cluster has been there since the E36 in the early 90s.

I was looking at the 125 M Sport at the Majestic Hotel last evening, it looks almost the same as the previous model!

Somehow can’t help but feeling that BMW seems to be losing the plot. As a fan of theirs, I am worried for them.

    4-Series is a 2 door version of 3-series, 4 door version of 4-series = 3-series isn’t it? What’s the point launching this car? Looks exactly like a 3-series with M-Sport kit!

Well the 3-Series GT looks too bulbus, like a mother’s car or grandma’s car. Probably this one looks sportier. Still, lets just wait

The fact that BMW had come out with a bewildering arrays of car variants derived from the same platform is nothing short of staggering , and it shows their continued world domination in the executive segment..

  • Alamak, whats d point now when 4 series grancoupe is almost same design as 3 series. If BMW did something like 6 series and 5 series then its justifiable. Now we have a more expensive four door ‘3series’.

BMW should introduce a below 2.0 hybrid 3 series, for sure will sell like hot cakes in malaysia. The 3series active hybrid is too expensive.

  • Everything good except the lousy 2 years warranty by BMW Malaysia. Shame on you! Please wake up, unless BMW is self-proclaimed to be fragile, unreliable and bad quality. Else, give us 4~5 years warranty to match other premium brand.
