The facelifted MINI Cooper Countryman has been unveiled at BMW World Malaysia – as with the F55 5 Door Hatch, the updated maxi MINI gets a new lower-powered variant to join the Cooper S that has been on sale since last year.

Coming in at RM44,000 under the Cooper S, the locally-assembled Cooper Countryman is priced at RM198,888 on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of 6% GST, a two-year, unlimited mileage warranty and a three-year/50,000 km MINI Service Inclusive package. It’s also RM19k less than the pre-facelift Cooper (which confusingly is still on sale), even though it has slightly better kit.

As with the Cooper S, the facelifted Cooper includes with a number of small tweaks, including a dual-bar grille and new 17-inch Triangle Spoke alloy wheels. Our car comes with regular halogen reflector headlights and fog lights, as well as Chrome Line exterior trim (grille and headlight, side indicator and tail light surrounds).

Inside, the facelift brings in anthracite gauges (replacing the white dials of the previous car), updated switchgear and improved interior insulation. Malaysian cars are specced with Chrome Line trim, Black Checkered and Piano Black interior panels, Polar Beige inlays and Cosmos Carbon Black fabric upholstery.

Apart from that, the standard equipment also lists push-button start, a multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, auto lights and wipers, auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a Visual Boost radio/CD player with Bluetooth connectivity and a 6.5-inch display (up from the previous car’s standard Boost unit). Safety kit includes six airbags and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with traction control, ABS and hill start assist.

Under the bonnet, the 1.6 litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder Prince engine is the same as before (producing 120 hp at 6,000 rpm and 155 Nm at 4,250 rpm), as is the six-speed automatic transmission. The performance and fuel economy figures (0-100 km/h in 11.6 seconds, 182 km/h top speed, 7.6 litres per 100 km) are all unchanged from before.

Incidentally, the car shown in these pictures is fitted with over RM13,000 worth of accessories, including gloss black headlight (RM517), side indicator (RM629) and tail light (RM426) surrounds, additional driving lights (RM2,178), white sports stripes (RM1,738), Union Jack baby seats (RM1,799, requires RM1,489 Isofix base), an iPad holder (RM589, requires RM75 base attachment) and a 320 litre roof box (RM3,909). We’re not sure about the MINI baby push car in the boot, though…
