Remember the Volkswagen Beetle Bug Edition that we showed you a few weeks ago? Well, today VW Group Malaysia (VGM) has officially announced the availability of the 200-unit limited-run Beetle.
Based on the range-topping 1.2 TSI Sport variant, the Bug Edition retails at RM146,888 nett. That’s a RM6,000 premium over the regular model, but do note that the recently-introduced Luxury pack – which is included with the Bug Edition and adds bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights and Vienna leather upholstery – itself costs RM6k, so you essentially get the add-ons for the Bug Edition for free.
What are the add-ons, you ask? Well, they include large twin stripes across the bonnet, roof and tailgate, as well as thinner stripes along the flanks, complete with prominent “Bug” script. There’s also a small “Bug” badge at the rear, below the VW tailgate emblem, as well as “Bug” aluminium side sill appliqués.
Otherwise, the kit list looks to be identical to the Sport – aside from the aforementioned xenon headlights and leather upholstery, there’s also 16-inch “Whirl” alloy wheels, dual-zone auto air-con, cruise control, paddle shifters, heated front sports seats and a RCD 510 touchscreen radio/CD player.
No changes to the mechanicals either, so under the bonnet resides the same 1.2 turbo TSI four-pot delivering 105 PS and 175 Nm, mated to the same seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission as before. Colours available for the Bug Edition are Pure White, Deep Black, Saturn Yellow, Tornado Red and Graciosa Brown.

At this ridiculous “hyped up ” price,one can buy a lower specs City and Vios.
Or a Honda HRV with a MYvi.
Or a basic 2.0 Accord or Camry,or Teana with some change to kao kao the sound system.
With 2 doors,any sane grandpa with cucu will definitely stay away from this SYIOK SENDIRI car.
Anyway,like Protong…no matter how bad is the after sales service….there will be no shortage of buyers who place” prestige” over real value/functionality of the car.
Like my diehard Honda addicted bro in law,some people will buy VW branded cars…even costing them one arm or leg.
Those people who buy VW or any other car brands are using their own money to buy cars, are they not? Relax, no need to worry too much about how other people spend their money.
Put some stickers just to clear stocks? Anyone dares to buy now? Entirely gave up the brand now due to WORST after sales “nightmare” service. Good luck VW!

are we getting poorer? this car was used by pakcik makcik in village few decades ago. and it was exactly like a sports car. rear mounted engine and rear wheel drive.
this is very cheap car in German, US and many other countrys. I mean very very normal common car that produced to use by students. Some how it became luxury car in Malaysia. Weird!!!

So basically the stickers are FOC. Not too bad, it makes the car look more lively.
Finally they admit their electronic system is full of bugs.
I personally feel the “Bug” branding should be made standard though. Gives it a retro feel.
Fun fact, I’ve been out of MY for some time, and actually found a Bug after 3 months! In KL there are just so many of them!
For retro feel sake, the “Bug” should be as cheap as a Polo with the same engine and transmission, and basic equipment (manual aircond, RCD510 infotainment, fabric seat, manual wipers and halogen reflector headlamps, remote central locking. Though safety should be top notch as per modern German cars.
That and the classic looking 18 inch rims on the Fender Edition would look nice. Or 15 inch steel wheel with plastic covers.
Still hoping new VW with manual gearbox here.
