The Honda Malaysia Racing Team (HMRT) emerged as overall winners in the Sepang 1,000 km (S1K) race last weekend, when its Honda City (Car 27) finished the 181-lap endurance race a full lap ahead of the second-placed team. Drivers Aaron Lim and Farriz Fauzy completed the race in eight hours 42 minutes.
Primary technical changes to the 2015 race car involved increasing the car’s power output as well as revisons to the suspension setup. The team managed to increase the horsepower of the City to 140 hp compared to the 128 hp in last year’s car, while the suspension was retuned for longer tyre sustenance and to match the increased power.
HMRT team director Akkbar Danial said that apart from the technical revisions, the team also perfected its pit stop tactics. Frequencies of training for the crew were increased and all members were given theoretical and practical classes of how the machine works and the pit rules.
“Over the years, HMRT has proven to be an ideal platform to train and build up skills of Honda associates while honing their capabilities in the motorsports arena. I am pleased to note that 20 out of 36 HMRT members this year were new, which also means that we have effectively added more associates with motorsport skills. Enhancing the skills of Honda associates has always been a core objective at HMRT,” he said.
The win was the team’s second in the annual enduarance racing event. In 2013, HMRT was also the S1K overall winner, with drivers Aaron Lim and Eddie Liew piloting a Honda Jazz to the title.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
hmmm was Proton competing as well??
Yes they are competing. During quali , they are p1 p2 but race is another thing …………
Where the drifting Vios ? ;P
Shame for Toyota. Summore Altis, can only make into 3rd place.
Yes, we did. However, both cars had technical problems causing us downtime and only managed 5th & 11th place despite clocking 2min 33s lap time during qualifying
yeah….wondering is it really just 140hp?because the car car is quite fast.Even proton manage to clock 2.33. It is consider fast. Even not all civic fd2 type r could get this time.
That mean proton is not reliable
Not just Proton. By your logic any other teams that faced technical problems are also ‘unreliable’.
Last year and 2012, Proton already S1K champion. and 2014
2013 and this year, HMRT are the champions. Last year HMRT on 3rd place behind both proton car.
Haters will gonna be haters… Support Malaysia Motorsport Industries.
Erm… anyways where is the drifting VIOS ???
Head over to sepangcircuit . com for all the results.
Congrats Honda Malaysia Racing Team !! Thats a nice looking city.
is it possible to churn the output from 120hp to 140hp using 1.5 vtec turbo or just modify the intake and exhaust?
Pretty easy… A simple ecu reflash will do… Plus these cars are almost bare in weight…
lol proton cars were much faster – honda just won because proton got problems.
yayaya inb4 keyboard warriors – “this is endurance blablabla”
proton seemed to have upper hand on the pace and clearly spent more efforts. just look at the side mirror design
What rubbish are u talking. Winning is everything. Same thing apply to all Motorsport. Come back only if u had a reliable engine.
Before this proton has won the race.. Err.. Does it mean honda and nissan are sucks? Perhaps. Lol..
Yes, proton are famous for technical issue and reliability problem… Its even mirrored in the race…
only 140hp? so freaking low…
yeah….wondering is it really just 140hp?because the car car is quite fast.Even proton manage to clock 2.33. It is consider fast. Even not all civic fd2 type r could get this time.
regardless of power it kick, it win the 1st place.
Congratulations to Honda for being the champion in Sepang 1000Km race!Unfortunately,Proton R3 Team car,Iriz R3 and Suprima S R3 both in 5th and 11th place because both car have technical problem. We will try to get rid of the problem, and look forward the next season. And we also are looking for higher race competition.

Congrats to Honda Malaysia Racing Team for consistently being reliable and competitive…
And to Proton, it should be a great day….
