Lego Creator VW Beetle – 1,167 pieces, with surfboard

2016 Lego Creator Volkswagen Beetle #10252 - 10

Following the release of the Lego Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS a fortnight ago, Lego has released the Creator set #10252 of the iconic Volkswagen Beetle. Comprising of 1,167 pieces, this Creator series model isn’t as sophisticated or as complicated as the Technic series Porsche.

Coming in a bright shade of azure blue, the Lego Creator Beetle is representative of a Volkswagen of the “flower power” era, and is accessorised with a roof-rack, picnic basket and surfboard. The roof is removable to reveal the beige-brown interior with movable seats, steering wheel and dashboard.

A Lego-sized spare wheel resides in the trunk, while a diminutive flat-four is installed in the rear, producing, we assume, “four-brick power.” Billed as ‘expert’ level in Lego’s Creator series, the VW Beetle also comes with a set of number plate stickers, allowing the builder to choose the car’s nationality. A nice touch is a set of “surfing” stickers to decorate the model with.

Other updates to the new Lego VW Beetle include special curved pieces to better replicate the front and rear fenders, eliminating the blocky curves of the earlier 2008 version of this set. The new windscreen piece also better replicates the flat fronted windscreen of the real VW Beetle, and a special ‘VW’ logo tile rounds of the build.

Inspired by a real-life VW Beetle, Lego has taken pains to ensure that its model comes as close as possible to the real thing, by including several special pieces not seen in any other Lego set. Priced at US99.99 (RM410), the Lego Creator Volkswagen Beetle will be available for online order through Lego’s website beginning August 2016.
