Honda City facelift unveiled in Thailand, from RM69k

We’ve been waiting for this for some time, but it’s finally here – the facelifted Honda City has been unveiled in Thailand today! The benchmark B-segment sedan has been given a few visual updates inside and out.

As the teasers and leaks have revealed, the City gains a new front end design, with reshaped headlights (LED daytime running lights standard, LED headlights optional) linked by a new chrome bar reminiscent of the new Civic, with a reshaped grille sitting underneath. There are also reshaped lower air intakes as well as optional LED fog lights.

Elsewhere, there’s a new design for the 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels, while the rear end gets a more aggressive bumper design. The bulb-type tail lights are the same as before, although the Indian-market version spied yesterday featured LED tail lights from the Japanese-market Grace Hybrid. Inside, changes are limited to a new seat design (with a Civic-like centre stripe), as well as gunmetal trim and LED lighting.

Available equipment is identical and includes keyless entry, push button start, a Display Audio infotainment system with a seven-inch touchscreen (now a two-DIN unit with physical buttons, rather than a flush-fitting system), a multi-angle reverse camera and steering wheel audio control buttons. Safety-wise, the City retains up to six airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Emergency Stop Signal (ESS).

The mechanicals have been left unchanged – a 1.5 litre VTEC four-cylinder engine produces 117 hp at 6,000 rpm and 146 Nm of torque at 4,700 rpm in E85-compatible Thai spec, sent to the front wheels via either a CVT (with optional paddle shifters) or a five-speed manual transmission. Expect Malaysian-market models to continue with outputs of 120 PS and 145 Nm.

Prices start at 550,000 baht (RM69,300) for the base S manual, rising up to 589,000 baht (RM74,200) for the S CVT, 649,000 baht (RM81,800) for the V CVT, 689,000 baht (RM86,900) for the V+ CVT and 736,000 baht (RM92,800) for the SV CVT. The range-topping SV+ CVT is priced at 751,000 baht (RM94,700).

In total, six colours are available for the facelifted Honda City, with a new Cosmic Blue Metallic joining existing colours including Modern Steel Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Taffeta White and White Orchid Pearl.

Honda must teach palat companies like Perodua and Proton to also give VSC in all their cars.

Malaysian gomen already confirmed it can prevent 45% of all deths and accidetns in a given year.

If we had 10,000 deaths last year, if all cars had VSC, we could have saved 4500 lives.

With the new front fascia, the old taillights looks dated. The LED’s looks so much better. But of course, the aftermarket blacked out LED’s is the best.

Good job honda, miles better than a junk vios. But could have been better. The Vento tsi is better though as it has a turbo stratified injection engine

Paddle shifters (optional) only for Thailand? Come to Malaysia don’t know whether they install it? Cannot compete if underspec and sell it at high price. Don’t forget to install the temperature gauge. Make sure no blue and red temperature idiot lights. City is not low cost production. Take care of your image. Don’t join Perodua car like Axia, no temperature gauge. These are lower cost car.

What we want together with a facelift is extra equipment , not merely a facelift. The paddle shifter and rear disc brakes are what the customers want.

One thing i don’t understand some say bolehland tax (import/excise/gst) + AP is 300%. Thai what i know tax (import/excise/vat/interior) ~100%. Nowadays RM n Baht not much different easier to compare, how come the price look similar if thai has lower tax than boleh? Maybe Kunta Kinte can explain.. i’m stuck.

the highest version should’ve included a small battery pack to make it a hybrid to push the horsepower up to 130hp and 170Nm of torque.

I just hope that the new Honda City for Malaysia market will include paddle shift. Very handy when want to overtake without using stepping fuel technique and when going downhill we have wide range of engine breaking when going downhill…A part from that make the driving more sportier in my point of view..
