First US-spec Honda Civic Type R sells for US$200,000

The new Honda Civic Type R certainly has its fair share of fans, especially in the United States, whereby the arrival of the hot hatch there heralds the return of a Type R-badged Honda to the country, since the Acura Integra Type R in the 1990s.

Recently, Honda partnered with Bring a Trailer to auction off the first US-spec Civic Type R (#01) ever to land in the country. The car (shown here) wears an Aegean Blue Metallic paint finish with black wheels and plenty of red accents. Of course, the most important bit here is the unique serial number below the shifter, with the designation “R-00001,” and VIN plate.

You would expect this one-of-a-kind example to attract plenty of interested parties, and you’d be right. After several days of bidding, the winning bid has been revealed to be an eye-watering US$200,000 (RM855,690), which is ludicrously more than the retail price of US$33,900 (RM145,041).

Of course, this is all in the interest of charity, with all of the proceeds from the sale benefitting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, an organization Honda has supported since 1991. Now, let’s all pray and hope that Honda Malaysia officially brings in the FWD King of the ‘Ring.
